Signs during pregnancy that you're having a boy?

Hiya

Just wondered if anyone has got any info on the signs that you're carrying a boy (old wives tales or otherwise), i.e. hair growing everywhere, date of conception etc etc

I heard that if you conceive later in your cycle you are more likely to have a boy. I also read that if you have hairy nips, it's a sign of a boy (lol!!).

So come on then, spill the beanz!

Apparently if you see testicles and a penis on a lategrowth scan it means you're having a boy. It was right for me with DS2 anyway.

motherinferior · 24/05/2007 12:37

On the other hand seeing testicles on your newborn does not necessarily indicate a boy, if you've had sufficient gas and air, I've found.

SpacePuppy · 24/05/2007 12:37

Carried in front and high, clear skin, no cloasma.

RGPargy · 24/05/2007 12:39
  1. LMAO @ SoupDragon. I actually meant BEFORE you find out what sex the baby is!!!
  1. LOL @ MotherInferior. Cant wait to have some gas and air and not worry that the bouncers will chuck me out for it.

  2. WTF is cloasma?

Low heart beats worked for me between 120-139 beats..worked for all mine, and my girls were all fast 140-160!

Never heard of the hairy nips one before...lol i never had hairy nips and i've had 6 boys-set of boy twins aswell, wouldn't that mean i should have has LONG hairy nips...ewwwwww

Cammelia · 24/05/2007 12:47

The baby kicks a lot when you watch a football match on TV?

bananabump · 24/05/2007 12:55

Mine's a boy (according to two scans) and I have a fuzzy belly and his heartbeat is normally below 140. But people have said they had hairy bellies etc with girls sooo.....

4d scan would tell you!

Pheebe · 24/05/2007 13:05

carrying wide and low for a boy, front and high for a girl. Works every time in our family o erm except one lol

there are no signs, everyones pregnancy is different, one woman might carry all her boys one way and all her girsl another but that won't tell you anything about how another one we react

sorry, growth scan and birth are the only ways to tell

Chugnuts · 24/05/2007 13:09

I had 3 virtually identical bumps, though thankfully not all at the same time. Only 2 of my children are boys.

beckmo · 24/05/2007 13:15

What do you think you are having RG? Everyone is convinced I'm having a boy due to having a 'neat' bump...now I'm convinced too. Neatness might dissapear if I don't stop nicking DH's snickers bar out of my hospital bag and having to replace it daily though.

Diplidophus · 24/05/2007 13:17

Bump shape depends on your stomach muscles and innards - nothing else!

dollyk · 24/05/2007 13:20

second the heart beat ds was slower than dd hers was very fast

sparklygothkat · 24/05/2007 13:40

I thought that Dolly, as I had my 16 weeks check today and baby' heartrate was 118-120bmp but people on my thread said it was an old wifes tale

Twinmummyx2 · 24/05/2007 13:44

people say that when it hasn't worked for them.

It dosen't work for some, i had a few friends that were pregnant at the same times as me and it didn't work for them. They had boys with high heart rates.....there boys were very active boardring on hyper....dunno if thats got something to do with it!...lol

Twinmummyx2 · 24/05/2007 13:44

I mean when they were born and growing older!!!

RGPargy · 24/05/2007 13:57

beckmo - i'm convinced i'm having a boy, my DP is convinced too and so are alot of other people i know. I dont know whether that stems from wishful thinking or from the fact that i already have a DS. One girl here at work said she could see me with a girl with all pink frilly stuff etc but personally, i absolutely cannot see it!!

OP posts:
belgo · 24/05/2007 13:59

RGPargy - you certainly don't have to dress a girl up in pink frills! We have two dds and they are wonderful, but dh is very keen on having a boy next time.

I would just like to be pregnant.

SoupDragon · 24/05/2007 14:00

BabyDragon is 15 months old nad has never worn anything pink and frilly in her life. And never will . And she still looks like a girl.

RGPargy · 24/05/2007 14:02

LOL I know all this, but for some reason the girl at work said it and i just thought "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Not pink and frilly!!!!"

SlightlyMadSquare · 24/05/2007 14:04

There is deffinately a good medical correlation between heart rate in utero and sex. 120-140 Boy, 140-160ish girl.

It is a correlation though and not medical fact.

DD3 hovered around 135-145 throughtout so I wasn't sure. Was 115-120 during labour though. MW admitted she was convinced she was a boy and if she had known it was a girl I would have been monitored a bit more closely as 120 is as low as they like the Hb to be.

two of my boys had persistently over 180 heart rates annoyingly

they both had a long tail

RGPargy · 24/05/2007 14:19

squeakybub - i'll be finding out the sex at my 22 week scan.

RGPargy · 24/05/2007 14:20

lol @ otter.

From my scan picture, this baby has huge size nines so there's no way they could be girl's feet!!

My DP said that perhaps the baby will grow into their feet lol.

One of my friends had really bad morning sickness (said to be a sign of having a girl) and she carried all around, no neat bump. Every one told it was a girl, he was most definatley a boy!
