Hoping someone can help, I am only 4 weeks pregnant and my GP told me to stop all medication for hayfever as she has found none that she trusts during pregnancy. Is there anything at all someone can recommend, I’m at my wits end and not sleeping because of it?

Any advice appreciated. X

See a different GP as she's talking crap. Nasal sprays are safe during pregnancy as is piriton. I had both. Have a google for others as can't remember off the top of my head. Hay fever is fucking miserable. I'm on fexafenadine and breastfeeding but not sure about pregnancy. Best drug I've ever had for it. Hope you get sorted Cakein case Thanks make you sneezey, itchy and wheezy

LiteraryDevil1 · 23/06/2018 21:21

Loratadine is ok in pregnancy. You can buy it in Tesco or chemist. One a day. Just checked on the nhs site. I know I took lots of stuff during my pregnancies-it's about benefit over risk but loratadine has a good safety record.

Tinker315b · 23/06/2018 21:29

Honestly I feel like cutting my head off 😂 I’m actually weak and light headed from the sneezing! I can’t seem to find any info on eyedrops as I have optrex but just scared to use them incase, going to get balm tomorrow, all windows shut, showered and everything @sunsunsunsunsun Thank you x

Loratadine was fine when I was pregnant

Tinker315b · 23/06/2018 21:30

@LiteraryDevil1 See I was using beconase and Loratadine but she said stop it all and I asked can I take piriton even and she said no to that also! I just can’t go through the rest of the summer like this everyday, as much as I am so so grateful to eventually be pregnant I hate to even complain! X

Change doctors. She's bonkers

Hoddykins · 23/06/2018 21:32

You can use eyewash and eyebath instead of eye drops - it washes the pollen allergens and dust out of your eyes without any sort of medication!

Also try upping your vitamin c - and make sure you're not drying you washing outside on the line as the pollen sticks to the clothing!

Tinker315b · 23/06/2018 21:34

I will ring first thing on Monday and speak to a different doctor @elf1985

Unless you have any medical or pregnancy issues that mean you can't take then them there's no reason I can think of for her saying that. See another GP but as the nhs website says loratadine is safe and you can buy it OTC then take it in the meantime as long as no known reasons why not. Piriton is used in cholestasis in pregnancy so bonkers that she'd say no to that too.

Tinker315b · 23/06/2018 21:35

@Hoddykins Call me stupid here lol, eye bath what do I use? Wish I could remove my eye balls and clean them thoroughly 😂

Sodium chromoglycate eye drops are fine. Again you can buy them from the chemist. I use the eye drops, fexafenadine and beconase together.

Tinker315b · 23/06/2018 21:39

Great @LiteraryDevil1 will try get them tomorrow!

Thank you all so much x

I took loratadine and beconase and eye drops whilst pregnant and when breast feeding with no problems.

seven201 · 23/06/2018 21:40

I took ceterizine through pregnancy. Loratadine is also on the nhs list as ok. Don't bother going back to the gp, just check the nhs website for peace of mind then take them!

Tinker315b · 23/06/2018 21:41

Thank you 😊

Don't discount this one because it sounds a bit wacky- it's a non-drug way of suppressing histamine release. Did wonders for me.

Loratadine, Cetirizine and Chlorphenamine are fine in pregnancy according to the NHS website

My sister suffered through during her pregnancy. I am taking the medication, I can't hack how ill I'm feeling without it

Tinker315b · 23/06/2018 21:50

Will look at this one @DancingLedge sounds quite good!

She's talking crap. I suffer with urticaria, and have to take antihistamines daily. I take 10mg citirizine and 360mg fezofenadine daily, and have done for the whole of my pregnancy. I'm 38 weeks now and baby is perfectly fine

Havetothink · 24/06/2018 08:26

Prevalin (it's a nasal spray), was recommended by a pharmisist, says it's safe in pregnancy on the box. My gp was worse than useless and won't prescribe anything like fexofenadine or even loratadine he said no oral antihistamines are recommended, I was less than impressed with him.

Tinker315b · 24/06/2018 09:14

Yes a bit like mines @Havetothink Can’t be expected to suffer like that everyday! Sure you would be absolutely shattered.

I'm 30 weeks and suffering absolutely horrifically with hay fever! I was recommended prevalin plus, which plenty of non pregnant people have been raving about and choosing to use over antihistamines! It really is fab and is fine for pregnant and breastfeeding women to use as is drug free! It doesn't fully cure the eyes though, it's more the sneezing etc but it does help to an extent!
