Maternity pads for after the birth

Hi, I am a FTM and looking for advice on which maternity pads are best for after the birth? I am only 33wks but want to be organised.
Please can you recommend any that I can buy from Amazon or Ebay (or the supermarket). I have no idea which ones would be best.

I am in the UK.

Thanks

I got the boots ones last time and got them on offer (plus boots points of course hehe)

Be careful if you buy normal period pads as so many of them seem to be scented these days. Don't want those kind of chemicals near your raw bits Confused. Also don't want to mask any smells that could indicate post birth infection etc (birth is so glamorous!) Also heard they're not good for stitches. Tesco own brand maternity pads were decent and cheap (you may need a lot of them!)

Pack of 20 for £1.50 from Tesco!

I found the Boots ones really bulky - I could always feel them moving around inside my massive knickers. Asda ones however were great.

Definitely buy incontinence pants for the first week at least. I bought Boots own brand and stuck a pad inside them. I ended up having a EMCS with DC2 and the pants were nice and soft and high enough to not irritate my scar. The midwife that helped me get washed and dressed after the anaesthetic had worn off commented on what a good idea it was. Boots own brand pads are good. Especially the thin ones for when the bleeding calms down.

Oh and if you do end up with stitches (I had an episiotomy with DC1) I can recommend soaking the pad in witch hazel for the discomfort. Wonderful stuff!

Noooo no wings! I had stitches and they really irritated me. Kotex are really soft and thick 👍 feels amazing after about 2 weeks when you get onto thinner pads 😂

1 tsp of witch hazel and 2 tsp of water on a maxi pad in the freezer. Make a load and change a few times a day, my sister used these and healed remarkably quickly.

I got a couple of 20 pack maternity pads and disposable big knickers from Tesco, and what eggcellent above said, deffinetly do its so soothing lol

Icklepickle101 · 09/06/2018 22:26

I used one pack of Tesco and then I scented extra heavy sanitary towels. Both were more than sufficient..

If you are also interested in breast pads I’d recommend washable ones 10000% I got 5 pairs on eBay for £10 and they are so much better than disposable in every way!

Pretamum · 09/06/2018 22:30

As some of the other posters have already said, the Kotex extra thick nighttime pads are lifesavers. I found these to be the only ones that were soft enough on the stitches but also absorbent enough for the heaviest first couple of weeks after the birth. Lots of cheap Primark knickers too!

I gave birth 12 days ago and am using the Boots ones with no problems. I'd also recommend buying their disposable briefs, too. They're ugly, but they're good for just throwing away after use, especially when you're really heavy in the first week/10 days Smile

happymummy12345 · 09/06/2018 23:14

I loved the Tesco ones. Cheap (you get through a fair few so cheap is good), soft and as comfy as such an item could be. We had a big Tesco literally just across the road from where we lived at the time, so I only used them as I could always get them. So can't comment on any others.

TheLuckDragon · 09/06/2018 23:15

I used boots and they gave me such a nasty rash it blistered!

MrsDilber · 09/06/2018 23:36

You don't need no fancy after birth ones, just get some night time pads and you'll be fine.
