Worried not sure whether to call midwives

Really hope someone is up and around to advise. I know it's silly to come on here but I really don't want to ring a potentially busy triage ward if it's ok.

I had a really sudden and severe headache come on at about 5 last night. I assumed it was dehydration and have been drinking lots and my wee is nice and pale. I've taken paracetamol but they haven't touched it.

I'm 30 weeks. My hands and feet aren't swollen, my vision seems ok and I'm not vomiting. The pain is severe. I'm not sure what to do, I just feel really anxious and torn with whether to call or not.

Absolutely call Smilethat's what they're there for and would much rather check you out and everything be fine, than leave it and something be wrong. Hope you're okay Thanks

Windydayz · 01/06/2018 03:03

Call triage please

C00kPassBabtridge · 01/06/2018 03:17

Thank you. I just needed one other person to reassure me to call. I phoned, they aren't concerned it's pregnancy related and think it might just be a migraine. Which I've never had so wouldn't know. I cannot believe the pain though.

Anyway thank you for giving me the push to call - realised how anxious I was and feel a lot better to have some reassurance.

Poor you! Pregnancy can induce migraines- it’s the hormones. Rest up, keep hydrated, cold compress for head, possibly a coffee (caffeine can help some people but if one doesn’t do the trick don’t keep drinking more!)Flowers

Pastaagain78 · 01/06/2018 03:30

Feel better soon Flowers

Ohb0llocks · 01/06/2018 03:31

Call, it's best to get checked.

I had pre eclampsia and one of the signs is a severe headache (I didn't have any symptoms though!)

If it's something like that you will need extra monitoring

HappyGirl86 · 01/06/2018 03:45

I had these really often from around 30 weeks. They were awful. Not quite the same as normal migraines as they didn't bother my vision but they were very very painful and I kept going back to my midwife who said everything was fine and it was just headaches.
I hope it's just a one off for you, and you feel better soon.

C00kPassBabtridge · 01/06/2018 04:01

Thank you. I can't believe the pain, it is absolutely pounding and if I move is excruciating. Feeling very sorry myself - I am useless at being ill and hate it.

It's frustrating that there's nothing I can take for it. Thanks for the support and sorry to those who have had similar.

Migraines are awful, especially in pregnancy when you can't take anything! Try a cold compress on your forehead and back of the neck.

C00kPassBabtridge · 01/06/2018 07:07

Thank you. I can't actually move at the moment, if I do the pain is searing. It's bad enough laying still. I haven't slept since 2 and I've got a toddler that's just Woken. I feel like it's really serious but migraines can't progress into anything more can they? Am I just being dramatic? I feel like a child, I'm so scared and in so much pain.

Please call them back and explain. Pre-eclampsia is so serious and you just want them to continually rule it out. Hope you're ok Thanks

Urbanbeetler · 01/06/2018 07:35

Please call again.

C00kPassBabtridge · 01/06/2018 07:36

Thank you. They advised me to call 111 if it got worse and I called them at 4:30. They said I didn't need out of hours as their algorithms or whatever they use said for me to see someone within 6 hours. Will call GP at 8 and then worry about actually getting there.

Well done for calling op. You should always get checked if worried

0310Star · 01/06/2018 08:48

I suffered bad headaches around 16-22 weeks, and I also had my first ever migraine which was just awful so I really feel for you!
If you are worried id suggest making sure you are seen today, but while you wait my saving grace was full fat coke so maybe try a can as it really did help me and I still have one now if I feel a headache coming on. Just took the edge off!

TinyTerror1 · 01/06/2018 09:01

Hope everything is ok OP. Let us know what the GP said.

MalcomPowder · 01/06/2018 09:03

How are you this morning?

C00kPassBabtridge · 01/06/2018 20:24

Only just seen people had asked after me. Thank you, it's kind. Went to GP who sent me to hospital with suspected meningitis. Still there now and staying overnight so we'll see what happens. Thanks for encouraging me to seek advice!

HollowTalk · 01/06/2018 20:28

I hope you're OK. It must be really worrying for you.

FatCow2018 · 01/06/2018 20:33

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon and its not serious.

For those suffering migraines, you absolutely can take pain relief ib pregnancy for them. I took co-codamol for mine and once it was so bad I was admitted and given morphine so you don't have to suffer.

TinyTerror1 · 01/06/2018 20:40

Oh gosh. I'm glad you went to the GP. Hope everything is ok xx

LadyGAgain · 01/06/2018 21:55

I hope you have support. You're in the best place OP. Well done for getting help and hoping you're both super well by tomorrow.

ferntwist · 02/06/2018 06:16

How are you feeling OP? Hope you’re okay and it isn’t meningitis

C00kPassBabtridge · 02/06/2018 18:19

Hi thanks for asking. I am back home again now after having some treatment for an infection but thankfully wasn't meningitis. Very relieved and feeling lucky. Thanks for all the support. Just need to take it easy for a bit now...

Urbanbeetler · 02/06/2018 21:25
