No one to organise a baby shower for me

I don't have many friends and especially not in this area as I've recently moved here in the past few years so I don't think I'll be having one sadly.

Going to a friend's in July as she's due in August but no one to organise one for me Sad

Well said @Porgs. I can't believe the judgement on here towards them. Fortunately in reality, most people I know have had them, there has been absolutely no focus on gifts (everyone I know specifies not to bring any), and they are just a lovely, girly afternoon.

In terms of making friends, if your budget stretches and it's not too late, I highly recommend NCT. It is expensive but for me, those friendships are worth every penny and more. If not NCT, look into other pregnancy activities like yoga/Pilates to meet others

I don't know anyone that's had one & neither did I, but I think posters dismissing them are missing the point.

Loneliness in pregnancy is awful. Combined with moving house must have compounded it no end. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but get signed up to NCT, look for Read & rhyme times at the library, maybe try a pregnancy yoga class. It's a bit terrifying getting yourself out there, but friends in a similar situation do help.

Hi lass

I have zero friends in area too and never had a baby shower with first or will with this one. But what I am doing Is gonna have a day to myself and buy some pamper stuff and just lounge about and do what I want for a full 24hrs in peace.

Pregnancy package at local spa with lunch etc.

Have you heard of Mummy Social- well worth a look for meeting mum's 🙂

Organising your own shower is beyond naff.

Sounds lovely, but that is not a shower.

OP, I'm sorry that you're feeling isolated. Maybe post on your MN local board and get some recommendations for nice groups near you.

I personally think a baby shower is a bit unnecessary....really fro a nw baby you need very little, the big stuff like car seat and cot are beyond the reach of would be guests and the small stuff is easily accessibly secondhand very cheaply or entirely unnecessary.
When I had my daughter I didn't get given much - 2 dozen cloth nappies, 2 or 3 packs of baby gros and that was about it apart from a secondhand pram and car seat (from SIL so known history) but we really did not need any more 'things' in a small house!

What I'd suggest you do is find a local Facebook group with a couple of thousand members and ask 'is there anyone local expecting in eg Winter 2018 would like to meet up'
Or find some local mummy to be friends on Mumsnet. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/local

I chose not to have a baby shower, it's just not my thing at all! Instead I arranged a nice brunch with friends and am organising a gathering once baby has arrived which people will travel for. You could arrange a lovely lunch and maybe spa with your DH to celebrate, id much rather be getting a pregnancy massage than sampling baby food and playing pin the nappy on the baby!

I've never had a baby shower (3 children), been invited to one, or known anyone who has had one! However, that's not really the issue here, the issue is that you feel lonely. Once you have the baby get out to baby/toddler groups wherever you can find them. We moved to a new area when Dc1 was 18 months & that's what I did. The people I met there are still my best friends.
