I'm 30+3 and over next couple weeks I'm buying the things for hospital bag so was just curious as to what things people were happy they took things they didn't actually use and things they wish they took
Thankyou 😌

Following with interest as I am in much the same boat with nary a clue as to what to pack Grin

noenergy · 08/05/2018 19:12

Snacks, hospital food was horrible and portions were tiny.

FranticallyPeaceful · 08/05/2018 19:13

Food! I regretted it so much. I’m basically bringing my kitchen cupboard with me this time

Lazyi · 08/05/2018 19:13

Hot water bottle and blankets

LRL2017 · 08/05/2018 19:14

For me I didn't pack more than one of each thing and then ended up being in for 4 days so didn't have enough nightwear etc so husband had to keep bringing it in for me. I wish I had packed a towel as the hospital only gave me little ones, not great when you are having a shower and trying to get dried with a hand towel!

Tena lady pants!! The big ones for incontinence

My mum bought some in for me the next morning (it’s a tip of hers but I’d refused them beforehand envisioning only a period sort of bleed- not the case after an episiotomy Hmm) and they were inarguably better at controlling the mess than maternity towels. and suprisingly comfy

LRL2017 · 08/05/2018 19:14

And yes to food, food was rubbish so glad I had a good stash in my bags

NeepNeepNeep · 08/05/2018 19:14

Wish I had lots of snacks and drinks.

GrumpySausage · 08/05/2018 19:14

Following too as 33+4 and haven't done mine yet (DC2 so a bit blasé!).

I remember I took far too many clothes for me (I was only in one night) and the bag wasn't big enough so everything got scrunched up. I'm intending to take one lot but then have an easily accessible pile at home for dh to fetch if I have to stay in longer.

We also forgot the nappies (I pictured them on the kitchen worktop mid push) and the hospital didn't have any! My poor dh has to drive home to fetch some at 3am. I'm going to put a few in different pockets this time so spread all over.

The wet toilet tissue you can buy - so much nicer post-birth on the bits.

AJPTaylor · 08/05/2018 19:15

A night nanny

Merrilymerrilymerrily · 08/05/2018 19:15

Something I was glad I had - a water mist spray thing which I used while giving birth it was so hot in the hospital and it really helped!

Passthecake30 · 08/05/2018 19:15

Food, I had cereal bars but what I really wanted was piles and piles of cheese sandwiches!

Namechangemum100 · 08/05/2018 19:16

Cotton wool (midwives made me feel bad for having water wipes but wouldn't offer me cotton wool).

Lots of maternity pads (I thought sanitary towels would be enough...I was wrong!).

Lots of really comfortable knickers (second time round a bought a few multipacks from Morrison's to see me through the first few days).

MorelloKisses · 08/05/2018 19:16

I sensibly packed a nice (not too massive) maternity outfit for feeling presentable in coming home. This stupidly involved white linin trousers!

Doh!!

HomeFree55 · 08/05/2018 19:16

Flip flops. So simple for popping on to the toilet/wear in the shower

Tamingoftheglue · 08/05/2018 19:17

Food!

After my csection I wasn't allowed much. They gave me the usual toast and cup of tea but then I was sick (caused by some of the medication) and it was taken off me. Well I was flipping ravenous! And had to wait until my next 'meal' to be bought to me as I couldn't get up and about. Dh was back at home by this point with the other children and all I wanted was to stuff my face!

Bluebirdsky · 08/05/2018 19:18

Most hospitals only have the white hand towel sized towels so would definitely agree with taking a bigger towel for a shower etc. Space around the beds is quite limited in most hospitals so I would definitely only pack for a night or two and ask people to bring more in for you if it's needed.

BrioLover · 08/05/2018 19:19

Snacks, extra water and still Lucozade. And rubber flip flops for the shower. Oh and two towels - one for each shower as I covered the first one in blood by accident and then had to pat myself dry with hand towels for the shower I had before I left hospital (was only in one night).

Redrosebelle · 08/05/2018 19:20

Hot water bottle!!!! For after pains.
Snugglier blankets for baby. I took pretty ones but not snuggly ones.

Mini2017 · 08/05/2018 19:20

Food food food. I had my DD at 5pm Sunday and by the time we were settle in our room, it was “too late” to get any food. Apparently there is a cut of point for ordering food from their menu.
The next day however, we had 3 lovely meals which included curry for lunch and lasagna for dinner. Both really lovely but the portion was tiny and only meant for the patient so DP and I had to share.
Just take as much as you can seeing as you will need to replenish energy after Labour.
Best of luck

Justkeepleft · 08/05/2018 19:23

A tip on the towel, a dark colour. Best tip.I got for post birth.
Food, extra clothes for baby too. Water bottle.

Tamingoftheglue · 08/05/2018 19:27

Pack a bin bag for dirty and wet things.

Nitw1t · 08/05/2018 19:27

Socks.

Gave birth in the ones I was wearing (was in a hurry, they got a bit slimey) and was discharged within 4 hours. Bare feet and trainers. Kate Middleton I wasn't.

Didn't need half the other stuff in there.

Sadsnake · 08/05/2018 19:29
