I'm 30+3 and over next couple weeks I'm buying the things for hospital bag so was just curious as to what things people were happy they took things they didn't actually use and things they wish they took
Thankyou 😌

Major regret first time was lack of savoury snacks and a straw. Straw to drink with when sitting up difficult and savoury stuff for the horrendous hole between dinner at 6pm and breakfast at 8 when newborn just has to feed all night. I got so sick of chocolate, cereal bars and flapjacks that this time I'm going to bring a big supply of jerky and Biltong plus doriano crackers and oat cakes as "meal like" non perishable snacks!

Food. Lots of snacks.

If you're expecting to be kept in for a couple of days or more - a few teabags and coffee. And a spare mug. New mothers were given a mug and allowed to make themselves tea/coffee in the day room, but visitors weren't allowed to use them. DP wasn't happy that the midwives wanted him to stay and help me around, change nappies etc. but they weren't prepared to let him have a drink for several days. Wasn't an issue with my eldest child - cutbacks, apparently.

Flip flops or similar for the grim shower.

A dark coloured dressing gown! DS1 was an unexpected EMCS and I had nothing with me. Sent DP out to buy basics and he could only find a white dressing gown in the nearby ASDA. It did not look good after a few days!

A grabber stick- couldn't move after my section and had no-one with me for days (DP with toddler at home) so a grabber would have been useful to get things out of my bag etc!

Really big loose underwear.. they didn't have any throwaway pants my size and my underwear was a bit tight over my wound.

Make sure that your bag is actually fully packed, closed and ready to go, preferably kept near the front door.
Before the birth I kept mine in the attic room with a post it stuck to it with a list of ‘last minute bits and bobs’
We had complications with the labour at home and to leave the house in a hurry. There was NO time for gathering up the last minute bits and we were too anxious to be faffed with reading a list. Literally had time to grab the bags, sling them in the car and go.
