EXTREME cramping but NO blood...advice anyone?

RedWineAllMine · 08/05/2018 01:24

I'm currently 5+3 after having 4 chemicals and 1 MMC in the past 2 years.
I've been getting all the pregnancy symptoms so far, sore boobs, light period like cramping etc, but this morning scared the hell out of me. I had extremely painful cramping, loads worse than period pain, it was that bad I broke out into a cold sweat and ran to the toilet expecting the pregnancy to be over.
(TMI alert : but it may be relevant) I then had a number 2 on the loo and the pain completely went.
Since this morning I haven't had the extreme cramping since, just the coming & going of light period like cramping like I have been already getting and that awful uncomfortable heavy uterus/bloaty feeling, like the one you get building up to your period.
I'm now so scared that a MC is imminent and am just waiting to bleed. But from my past losses when I had bad cramping a lot of blood came with it, and I have had no blood, nothing.
Has this ever happened to anyone before and was all ok in the end? I've been reading that It could be gas/constipation. But Im paranoid because of my past. Constantly on edge about it. Any advice welcome. Thanks 😊

I didn't want to read and run, it does sound a lot like gas though to me. If you're really concerned maybe call your gp tomorrow?
I'm currently just 4+3 and I've been getting similar cramps which seem to be gas but also a lot of period like pains so I understand how scary it is.
Hopefully someone with better knowledge than me can help

I'm sorry about your previous losses. Flowers

I had cramping really bad at around your time, like at least 10 times worse than I'd ever had with a period and spent every evening curled up on the sofa with a hot water bottle. Then I had an ovarian cyst at 6 weeks which was also very, very painful to the point that I was struggling to walk at times. That cyst pain would often ease after going to the bathroom too. I kept thinking I was miscarrying, but I'm now 17 weeks into a so far healthy pregnancy.

I'd suggest calling 111 about the pain just in case they think it could be eptopic pregnancy or a cyst (although with cysts they just basically keep an eye on it unless they think your ovary has twisted, which I understand is so painful you will feel like you are going to pass out). I found those early pregnancy days really nerve wracking. You just have to know that there's a good chance that everything will turn out OK and if you're unlucky and anything goes wrong then it's not your fault.

Thanks for reply's. I guess what I'm after is reassurance really yeah.
I have been passing a lot of wind too, far more than I do normally! Up until this morning I wasn't worried at all. I'm hoping that doesn't happen again. It is horrible being on edge, I just can't settle because I secretly think it's doomed, but hoping it isn't. I haven't registered with the midwife yet, so as not to waste her time really, if my past losses are anything to go by.
But I will be 6 weeks on Sunday, if I reach that stage with still no bleeding then I will register with the midwife at my GP on Monday. In the mean time I might call EPU to see if I can get an appointment to put my mind at rest, even tho I'm not registered with midwife yet.
Yeah these early stages are the worst, your mind runs away and analyse every single symptom and thinking the worst of it. I was just so sure that it was over today, had a pad at the ready, but nothing. So maybe that's a good thing 🤔

Obviously I can't guarantee anything but I can tell you that the statistics say the odds are in your favour already. If you've made it to 5w3d then there's already about an 83% chance that you'll go on to give birth, and those odds will get better every day.

The early stages of pregnancy are weird and generally suck. I can't recall having increased wind but I do remember constantly needing to pee, along with all the pains I mentioned in my previous post. And then the morning sickness started at week 7 which has been dreadful! There's a lot going on and you're going to feel really weird whilst your body adjusts.

It's a good idea to see if the EPU will see you. If they won't then do at least keep an eye out for the symptoms of an eptopic pregnancy (especially pain on one side) just because in the unlikely event that you have one in can get very serious:

But as I say, chances are you'll be fine Smile

SophieE1987 · 08/05/2018 06:23

I had pains like this - accompanied by needing the loo, at about the same time as you - I thought I was further along than I was and was sent to the EPU as I had pink spotting as well and had a scan at 5+3 and 6+2 where they saw everything that should be there/growth between scans/heartbeat etc - pains stopped after the first scan, no explanation but as far as I’m aware (not had any scans or any issues since) I’m now 10 weeks - good luck, but have definitely been in the same boat and at the moment everything seems ok

Littlebelina · 08/05/2018 07:39

Just from your title I thought trapped wind or constipation. Chances are it is just that. Try to keep calm and don't worry too much (easier said than done). Keep a eye out for other symptoms (shoulder tip pain, bleeding) that indicate it could be ectopic and if you get those contact your epu or doctor.

RedWineAllMine · 08/05/2018 08:10

Thanks all. Feeling good this morning, no bad pains just the usual coming & going of light cramping. This thread has put me at ease a bit. I will however keep an eye out.

Ally yeah I know nothing is guaranteed unfortunately. My fingers are crossed for this one!

I think it’s hard not to be paranoid especially when you’ve had losses and are having pains.

I have been there and just think it gets a bit easier the longer you go on. I think cramping pains in early pregnancy are normal and without bleeding nothing to worry about (but im not a doctor).

Emma198 · 08/05/2018 08:29

I've had bad tummy pains loads, I'm 10+4. Always digestion related I've been one way or the other for two months but it is scary and difficult to tell! Try not to worry.

YorkieDorkie · 08/05/2018 08:41

I hope I can give you some more hope too. In the early weeks of my first pregnancy I had what I would describe as extreme cramping. I went out with my friends and spent an hour in the loo bent double with the pain. All fine Thanks sending you the very best of luck!

m4rdybum · 09/05/2018 21:26

I'm glad someone else has described the heavy/bloaty/crampy feeling. Currently sat with a hot water bottle for my cramps - I'm 4+1.

Sorry to hear about your losses and wishing you all the best Flowers

RedWineAllMine · 10/05/2018 00:50

Oh M4rdybum I'm getting the light period light cramping all the time, it comes and goes. But like you I might try a hot water bottle instead of just putting up with it. Had slightly bad cramping again once today, but it went after I had a number 2 again, so they must be related. But Light period cramping is expected to be honest, it's in all the symptoms. But I still won't settle really until I've had a scan.

RedWineAllMine · 10/05/2018 00:52

And the heavy uterus bloaty feeling is starting to do my knacker in. But I can't complain because all good so far (I like to think). Thank you and I hope yours goes smoothly too Smile

What does 4 chemicals mean?

Mousefunky · 10/05/2018 06:59

I had this a few weeks back and also thought it was the end. I had two weeks actually of bad trapped wind that was at times absolutely crippling. I had two MMC last year and for some reason I felt the cramps in my upper abdomen rather than lower so I figured it was the end.

I am 14+4, had the scan last week and everything is absolutely fine Smile. I know it’s easy to say and difficult to do but try not to panic unless you see heavy blood.

somersetsoul · 10/05/2018 07:15

I'm 18 weeks and still get horrible pain before a no 2 sometimes! Everything crossed for you op 💐

Liz3891 · 10/05/2018 07:46

I suppose if I were you I'd be comforted by the fact I'd had so many MCs before because you now know what they feel like/how they present to you. Since your MCs before all involved a lot of blood with the cramping and now you only have the cramping, it sounds like the cramps were just wind/bowel movement.

RedWineAllMine · 10/05/2018 08:17

Charolais the term chemical pregnancy is infact a really really early miscarriage. It's not classed as one because it's so early on, and nothing would have shown up on a scan. The only proof you had you was pregnant was the chemical reaction (HGC) on the test, hence where the 'chemical' term came from. I had 4 where I bled heavily around 4 days after a positive pregnancy test, then the pregnancy was over. If you didn't test then you would think it was a late period, as that is what doctors call it too.
So as you can imagine I've had a rough ride the past 2 years, that's why I'm a bit paranoid this time round again.
But yes no blood still, and boobs are getting bigger!

OP posts:
RedWineAllMine · 10/05/2018 08:22

I've never had any of these symptoms I have now with my past pregnancies, apart from bigger boobs with the MMC at 8+3.
So fingers crossed it must be a good thing. And to the PP yes, blood always came, even with the MMC I got a brown gush. This time I have nothing, so it brings me comfort in knowing that.

MrsXx4 · 10/05/2018 09:38

Hi @Redwineallmine I just wanted to say that this thread has really reassured me! I am 5 weeks today and last Friday I had a horrendous scare. I was woken up with the worst tummy cramps I have ever experienced and was convinced it was all over for me. I am still praying every time that I go to the loo that I don't see blood but so far I haven't had anything. Its reassuring to read that this has happened to someone else, although not nice I just had no idea what to think. I did actually call the EPU and they told me to wait it out and if there was any blood to call back and to take paracetamol for the pain.

RedWineAllMine · 14/05/2018 12:11

MrsX yes I can totally see where your coming from! It's horrible isn't it. I had another scare on Saturday, I just felt periody all day, it just wouldn't budge, and was in a massive mood because I thought it was the start of a loss. But long & behold it went the next day. I am now 6+2, so maybe I should just accept that this is the start of something good! Registering with the midwife today. Exciting! Glad it's been reassuring. It has for me too. No blood = all good. Smile

OP posts:
Britta1 · 14/05/2018 12:24

I had very strong cramping at 5-6 weeks ish, so much so I had to lie down and wait for it to pass. I think it was implantation pains and little bean getting settled in! I’m 13+5 now and all is good!

thetriangleisarealinstrument · 14/05/2018 12:33

Im 34 weeks and ive had quite bad cramping all the way through... once so bad I almost rang an ambulance! But it settled down before I did thankfully.
No probs with the baby at all, can still feel her moving. Have been checked out by the midwife and there does not seem to be any problem. All scans fine. They are just putting it down to gas and digestive stuff.
Which is probably true as I have had some problems with that in other ways. Being pregnant can slow down your whole digestive system and cause some women a lot of pain in that way. I also got some bad cramping every time I went for a number 2! Also immediately after eating things I get it and sometimes just randomly!

RedWineAllMine · 15/05/2018 17:56

Yes I get cramping randomly quite worse than other times now, particularly at night. I have noticed I'm not going to the toilet everyday like I used to now either. I'd say I go every 2-3 days now, unusual for me.
I'm not out of the dog house just yet, as I know losses can still happen, but I'd say I'm past the chemical pregnancy bleed stage now, as that always happened around 4 weeks. Less than a week after my missed period. That's how they always timed out for me anyway.
So, just need to keep on going every day, and every day that passes I count my blessings that I've not had a bleed. And it also means I'm getting closer to success! Registered with midwife yesterday. I'm still going to ask for an early scan, see if I'm entitled to one.
