Festival when 11 weeks pregnant

Hi everyone. Really need some advice on what to do.

I’ve recently found out that I’m pregnant but me, my dh and group of friends have tickets for Radio One big weekend (booked before we found out).

I’m really torn on what to do! I won’t be camping as we have accommodation near by so that won’t be a problem I’m just worried that being so early into the pregnancy it may be a bit much to take.

I’ve also spoken to my midwife who said it would be fine just to avoid crowds but I still have this feeling of doubt.

So, please tell me straight. Would I be irresponsible by going or am I over thinking it?

Depends. If you’re feeling well then of course. I couldn’t have possibly gone myself due to very bad sickness!

booandbumpp · 03/05/2018 18:01

I've bowed out of going to download as I'll be 20 weeks and I've had HG but I think if I hadn't had HG I would have gone. I think not camping will really help!

MrsG95 · 03/05/2018 18:02

If you feel up for it then go ahead!

TeddyIsaHe · 03/05/2018 18:02

Depends how bad your morning sickness is to be honest. 11 weeks it can start to tail off, or be at the aboksute peak. OR you might not have it at all! You won’t know until it’s nearer the time, so I wouldn’t make any set plans, just see how you feel.

FrangipaniBlue · 03/05/2018 18:02

I went to one at 10weeks, apart from puking behind the tent each morning I was fine Smile

Birchgirl · 03/05/2018 18:13

Well I haven’t had any morning sickness (yet) so I’m hoping I’m one of the lucky ones.

I dunno I just feel as if I’m being irresponsible by going which I know probably sounds stupid but it’s a feeling I can’t shake! :(

I would do it if you feel well - what is it that worries you exactly? I don't see any risk to your little one, it's just how you feel.

BarryTheKestrel · 03/05/2018 18:40

I would and did in my last pregnancy. This time I'm going camping without the added fun of a festival to make it bearable!

Go. It may be your last chance for a few years.

Birchgirl · 03/05/2018 18:48

I keep asking myself the same question but I think it’s the fear of big crowds and the fact that it’s going to be a long 2 days.

TBH I think I know that I’ll be ok I just need some reassurance x

I think you should be fine, by 11 weeks any morning sickness will hopefully be wearing off.

Worst case scenario you can stay in the hotel and just go to see one or two favourite bands.

If it is allowed, could you take a little fold up camping stool into the festival in case you want to sit down?

Racheyg · 03/05/2018 19:03

If you have had no morning sickness or anything I'm sure you'll be doing k and have a great time.

I did Glastonbury at. 38 weeks pregnant but would have struggled at 11 as I felt awful 1st trimester. Have a great time x

MyNameIsTotoro · 03/05/2018 19:16

I think you'll be fine, especially if you're not camping. I've done Glastonbury in first trimester and it was knackering but fine. It was only knackering as it's such a huge site, big weekend would be fine.

Birchgirl · 03/05/2018 19:36

I was more worried about doing harm to the baby than to myself tbh.

I was thinking the same about the chair but on their website you can’t take chairs in! I was so shocked about that lol

I’ll be going to a family festival this summer at 5 months pregnant (assuming all goes well, touch wood). We go every year and I’d only miss it if I was the full nine months!

Just take it easy and listen to yourself if you feel tired.

Cosmoa · 03/05/2018 19:39

I was at a festival with a girl who was 8 months pregnant and did a stall at a week long festival in Portugal in the blazing heat...

So I think if you feel okay, you'll be fine!

Matilda1981 · 03/05/2018 19:40

You should be fine - I went to reading festival when I was about 14 weeks pregnant and also went to Glastonbury when I was 36 weeks pregnant! (Different pregnancies obviously!!)

Ubercornsdiscoball · 03/05/2018 19:41

You and baby will be fine. Just go! Enjoy it!

Dancingleopard · 03/05/2018 19:42

You will be fine if you are in good health.

I was zip lining in Mexico at 12 weeks.

crow2018 · 03/05/2018 19:43

I camped when I was 20ish weeks at a weekend festival and it was great, luckily they had a place on site that did blow up mattresses 😂

AJ89 · 03/05/2018 19:48

It depends how well you feel but I was partying the magaluf at 10 weeks a few weeks ago! Was tired earlier than usual but just went back to hotel.

Thetimehascometo · 03/05/2018 19:56

I’m off camping at 34 weeks, flew to Australia and back between 11-14 weeks and did all the touristy stuff, including new year in the botanical gardens over looking the opera house and harbour bridge and a few days at the Melbourne cricket test. If you feel up to it I wouldn’t let your pregnancy stop you. We’ve carried on leading a pretty normal life (maybe with the odd extra drinks break or nap if needed) but then again I’ve been lucky to only have mild nausea.

Birchgirl · 03/05/2018 20:08

You all make Big Weekend seem like a walk in the park compared to the stuff you’ve done haha

Thank you everyone. I think I will go and if I feel that it’s too much I’ll just leave early. I’ll just avoid crowds and sit wherever I can find a seat haha

Thanks again you’ve all put my mind at rest Smile

I've been to several festivals while pregnant. I went to a little one at 36 weeks Grin if you feel up for it, go and just stick to the far edge of the crowds.

I'd suggest making no solid plans though, just in case you do feel quite run down.

Cosmoa · 03/05/2018 20:34

@Birchgirl enjoy!! Grin

Doyoumind · 03/05/2018 20:41

No harm will come to the baby! I've done festivals much further along than that and had no problems. Take a rug or tiny camping stool to sit on if you feel queasy, and plenty of hand sanitiser as if you're not drinking you'll be much more bothered than usual by the portaloos.
