Transverse at 35 weeks

user1499786242 · 30/04/2018 21:03

Anyone have a transverse baby at 35 weeks?
Baby has been breech or transverse for ages but had a growth scan 10 days ago and they had moved head down
Yippee I thought
At midwife app today baby is transverse again 😭
I'm 35 weeks and 2 days
Bump is also measuring 27.5cm which according to dr google is really small for 35 weeks??
Growth scan was fine tho
Midwife did say small bump is likely to be because of the positioning!

Anyway, any experience of transverse babies appreciated!! What happened etc?
Next midwife app is in two weeks! Hope baby moves by then, any tips?

I had the same experience and was sent to the breach clinic at Chelsea Westminster hospital where I was given exercises to do to trg and turn the baby. They explained that if these didn't work, next option was manual turning (which would be risky as it could induce labour) and finally caesarian. In my case, the exercises worked and baby turned!

Dreamingofkfc · 30/04/2018 21:19

You'll be measuring small because of the transverse position. Have you looked at spinning babies website?

CookPassBabtridge · 30/04/2018 21:22

Both my sons were transverse which was fine as I wanted sections anyway! I just had to make sure I phoned the hospital straight away if my waters broke due to risk of cord prolapse.

user1499786242 · 30/04/2018 21:33

Hiya, how many weeks were you when you did the exercises?
I've looked at spinning babies website and did try one but because of the bloody awful spd I have I'm struggling to do them without a lot of pain!

Read a few things online where people were admitted for weeks because of a transverse baby?? Incase of labour!
Also have a toddler so that would be a bloody nightmare!

I'm 36 weeks I had a scan at 33+6 it was literally a quick one due to reduced movements and baby was head down then the day after I had a growth scan and she had moved transverse!! I am hoping she's back head down at my 37 week growth scan little tinker. Sorry I can't be more help op hope baby turns for you!

PrimeraVez · 01/05/2018 04:28

I’m 34 weeks with a transverse baby. I’m seeing a consultant (overseas so standard here) and she didn’t seem concerned as she felt there was still plenty of time for him to turn. She told me to do the spinning babies exercises and swim a lot!

The only thing she did say was that if my waters break suddenly, I should lie down immediately and call for an ambulance as there was a risk of cord prolapse.

FranticallyPeaceful · 01/05/2018 05:25

I had a scan a few weeks ago and head down, had a scan yesterday (37 week) and he’s transverse :/ seeing s consultant tomorrow and nervous about it. I’ll let you know what they say

moreismore · 01/05/2018 05:36

See if you can find someone locally who does Webster technique.

Phillipa12 · 01/05/2018 05:56

My dd was transverse, i was scheduled for an elcs anyway but she did go head down by herself at 38+2, was not the most pleasant 30 mins of my life whilst she turned but then she did weigh in at 10.9lbs 3 days later when she was delivered!

mummabubs · 01/05/2018 05:59

My DS went transverse at 35 weeks having been head down before (little tinker). They asked me to go into hospital (which I was also dreading) and started talking about either waiting it out or ideally c sec. So I went into hospital with all my stuff, they scanned me and the little pickle had gone head down again so they sent me home! Sending lots of head-down thoughts your way OP! X

mummabubs · 01/05/2018 06:00

*as in waiting it out in hospital, which given I went to 42 weeks in the end would have been hell on Earth!)

Butternutissquashed · 01/05/2018 06:02

Me. DS was head down at a scan in the morning pre section. By the time I got to theatre at lunchtime he was transverse again. Didn’t feel him move.

Dreamtheimpossibledream · 01/05/2018 06:06

I was admitted at 38 weeks because of the risk of cord prolapse and then had a c section at 39 weeks on the dot.

Idontknowwhatithink · 01/05/2018 06:08

My baby was transverse, went head down around 35 weeks but a week later transverse again and stayed there.

Don't panic!

A transverse baby at this late stage should be closely monitored which means extra scans and a section would normally be booked for around 39 weeks to avoid your waters breaking/going in to labour because that needs to be avoided otherwise you're at risk of cord prolapse.

I was offered having baby manually turned but my consultant said that procedure is rarely successful and carries the risk of breaking your waters which then becomes an emergency section situation. Also bear in mind there might be a reason your baby is transverse e.g.: shape of your uterus might be preventing him/her from turning at this late stage.

Thanks for all the replies!
Last pregnancy my son was literally head down and engaged for the whole third trimester near enough so never even thought about his position! So this is all new to me!

My midwife only works Mondays, and next week is a bank holiday so next app is two weeks where I will be 37 weeks, do you think that's ok? Or should I push to see someone sooner to be monitored etc?

My last birth was really fast and we live 30/40 mins from hospital so there was talks of induction as they didn't think I'd make it intime but I said no, so hearing if my waters break it's an emergency is slightly panicking me!
The midwife seemed so laid back about it all tho!

Feel very frustrated as physically I can't really do many of the exercises and even swimming will be a challenge, but I could maybe just do some big turns in the pool? Would that help?

Think it's time I got the bags packed just incase 🙈🙈

Two weeks is plenty of time to do exercises! Could your midwife send you some simple ones to do? Mine was spending 15 minute stretches kneeling o the bed witb my chest of the mattress, so not too painful. I didn't do the more elaborate ones :)

Justtickingboxes · 01/05/2018 08:10

I would definitely push to see someone sooner, just to make sure. If baby turns late, there is also increased risk of the cord getting round baby's neck - which is what happened to me (it was ok!)

user1499786242 · 01/05/2018 12:02

She mentioned I could try going on all fours and pelvic tilts?
Will have a look on YouTube aswell and see if there's any simple ones on there!

I think I will ring my midwife, seeing her at he local doctors surgery is fine but if I need to see her anywhere else like the local hospital it will be a nightmare as I can't drive at the moment!
But she could maybe do a home visit as she has been here before when I was worried about something else!

Staying positive, if the baby has moved once they can move again 😬😬

Justtickingboxes · 01/05/2018 12:38

Yes - I think my exercises were called pelvic tilts. They had also suggested some weird alternative thing which onvolved standing on a book with a lit joss stick touching my little toe (seriously!!!!). I didn't do it :)))) it was a bit funny coming from the NHS :)))

Justtickingboxes · 01/05/2018 12:40

Oh gosh - just googled it and it's called "moxibustion". www.scienceandsensibility.org/blog/can-moxibustion-help-turn-breech-babi

FranticallyPeaceful · 01/05/2018 18:30

Had my appointment today and they tried to admit me... their concern is that if my waters break, gravity ensures that he would fall onto the cord, and could get caught in the cervix or something like that. Anyway it all leads to their concern about cord prolapse. If he was breech or heads down then it’s not an issue... but I have two children already and she agreed to wait until Monday and have a rescan and then admit me if he hasn’t changed position.

So when I’m admitted the plan will be to either wait it out (they want to monitor me/make sure I don’t go into labour when he’s transverse and if I do then it’s an emergency) or they want to position him head down (which they said earlier the better because the bigger they get the less successful it is) and then break my waters so gravity keeps him down and will hopefully deliver him. All of these could lead to a c section, if the waters go before he’s turned then it’s a c section and if he goes into distress it’s a c section and if labour doesn’t progress then it’s a c section... also I can have a planned c section if that’s what I want.

Sooooooooo, I’m in limbo until Monday and then I’m faced with decisions that I won’t know how to respond to! 😱

My second child was transverse and turned by 35 weeks so it was never an issue as such. Now I’m in a flap about the whole thing! I’m about to have a bath to give him some room to turn

FranticallyPeaceful · 01/05/2018 18:38

Just realised I said seeing consultant tomorrow because I woke up at 5am thinking it was still the middle of the night lol Grin saw them today!

user1499786242 · 02/05/2018 17:52

Oh god, how bloody stressful!
How old are your other kids?
How many weeks are you?

Had an uncomfortable day yesterday and bump went in all different funny shapes so I'm pretty sure the baby is trying to move!

Hope everything goes well for you!!!
