I'm being induced tomorrow and would like to hear some positive induction stories Smile

OP posts:

I’ve had 2 (out of 3 - my middle one I went into labour naturally the morning I was meant to be induced 😊).

Birth 1 was 23 hours from the first pessary going in to holding him. I did need ventouse help but he was back to back and had an enormous head ( and still does - I’ve just got him an age 11-13 cap for the summer and he’s 6 😂) but it was fine.

Number 3 was 12 hours from first pessary to holding him. Not a bother.

Good luck tomorrow. Flowers

Mine was pretty positive. I was induced in the evening, slept fine that night, with a few minor pains, which carried on through the following morning. Had my waters broken at 2 pm. Admittedly all got very painful very quickly then, but all progressed fast from there, and was 10cm dilated by 5pm. Things slowed down a bit then, and I needed a bit of help. DS was born by ventouse at 7pm.

I hope all goes well for you tomorrow!

Second labour was induced at 42 weeks. They only had to break my waters and I immediately started contracting. 4 hours from start to finish. Was home 5 hours after giving birth. Definitely the better labour (after the previous 25 hour labour).

I won't mention the fact that they didn't actually induce me on the day I was supposed to be induced and had me waiting around in hospital for 24 hours before actually inducing.

NotSoFlatStanley · 29/04/2018 19:42

Two beautiful girls from my inductions (both 10 days over). First one pessary and assisted delivery with ventouse as she was back to back. 2nd time ARM and then gas and air. A means to an end and positive experiences for me. Good luck and congratulations in advance!

Induced 6 weeks ago with my first DD. Went in at 8am on the Monday (due date) was induced with the 24 hour pessary. No pain for much of the day, a bit of soreness down below but I put that down to the pessary as it can cause irritation. Very mild pains from about 9pm. Waters broke naturally just before 2am on the Tuesday - was 5cm dilated within the next 45mins and then 10cm around an hour later. After what seemed like a lifetime of pushing DD was born at 6:17am without any intervention however I did have a 2nd degree tear which was swiftly stitched and has healed well. Was able to leave hospital the same day

scaredofthecity · 29/04/2018 19:47

Induced at 42 weeks, took a while to get going but DS was eventually born at 42+2 after a 3h45m labour. Just g & a, no drip, no interventions.

The worst part was getting going, but once I did it was fine. I had 2 x pessaries then the gel. The pessaries made me contract but I wasn't dilating and you have to wait till they wear off, that's why it took so long.

I'd take plenty of entertainment and snacks and be prepared for it to take a while, and if it doesn't you can be pleasantly surprised!

scaredofthecity · 29/04/2018 19:49

Oh I did get sore down there with all the bits they put there and examinations. You can ask for g&a if it gets too much when they are examining, that really helped.

Mybabystolemysanity · 29/04/2018 19:51

Waited in hospital for a week. It was Christmas and like a zoo. Not priority so had to wait. Six hours from ARM to baby. No pessaries. It wasn't the birth I wanted, but it was a good birth nonetheless. Straightforward. Second degree year because she came hard and fast. Stitches not nearly as bad as I feared and healed well. Took ages for milk to come in. Ask for laxatives/softener if they are going to give diamorphine or co codamol.

There was a really good induction thread on here a few weeks ago. Would be worth searching for.

FranticallyPeaceful · 29/04/2018 19:52

Induced via pessary around midday, lost plug sometime during night, I was in labour by the morning (and overnight but very slight), gradual increase in pain throughout the day, gave birth around 10pm. No pain relief, no problems. It was a good experience!

FranticallyPeaceful · 29/04/2018 19:53

I may be wrong in timings, I was zoned out for most of it

willisurvive3under2 · 29/04/2018 19:53

I was induced 10 days ago with my twin girls. It was a really positive experience and so much better than my first spontaneous labour!

Pessary at 3pm, babies born at 3am ish.

Contractions ramped up from around 10pm and were a little too strong and close together so they took the pessary out and let me progressed naturally until twin 1's water broke. It was a lovely birth. Good luck.

PatchworkElmer · 29/04/2018 19:54

Mine went really well- pessary in at 9pm, felt twinges almost immediately. DS was born at 7:47 the next morning, so it was less than 12 hours from start to finish!

NoParticularPattern · 29/04/2018 19:56

Mine was a very nice experience considering I really really didn’t want to be induced. Was induced at 42 weeks. Pessary in at 11am, pains started by about 5 ish and then got gradually worse until I was offered an aromatherapy bath at about 8pm. Waters broke as soon as I got sat down in it so out I got! Examined me and I was 4cm and pessary had come away. Went onto delivery suite and was 6cm by 11pm. DD was born without any assistance at 3.40am. I had a second degree tear but that healed really well within a fortnight. We were home by 7pm the same day. Definitely a positive experience for me- especially after all the horror stories I had heard!

MrsPotts18 · 29/04/2018 19:59

Induced with DC2. Had the pessary at 12.30pm. Had mild tightening from about 11pm but contractions didn't really start until 3am. DS was born at 5.25am. Didn't need the drip and only had gas & air, no stitches!

cindersrella · 29/04/2018 20:08

I liked been induced. I had a terrible pregnancy (both times).

I lived going into hospital, knowing what was going to happen as the midwives explained everything to me.

I was very lucky in the fact there were no complications, no pain relief apart from gas and air, no drips etc. it was all very straight forward.

I had both my babies within 30 hours the first... I was in established labour for around 3 hours and around 15 hours with my second.. I was in established labour for around 1.5 hours with her.

Good luck xx

TheMotherOfBears · 29/04/2018 20:21

Best of luck op! I was induced with one of my DCs. Not a bad experience at all -?-although things did take a while to kick off. Pessary in one morning. A few contractions that evening and pessary fell out. Pessary number two on lunchtime of day two. Lots of walking and contractions restarted but nothing I couldn't handle. Around tea time I thought "oh these are kicking off maybe I'll put on my TENS machine". Fifteen minutes later DC was in my arms. TENS machine was only on 50% and had a bit of gas and air. Midwife was very surprised how quickly I went from not dilated at all to 10cms! I did need quite a bit of stiching up but also needed that for non-induced DC who took hours to come out. Certainly felt this was better experince! Hope it is for you too. x

mrspapalazarou · 29/04/2018 20:28

Both mine were inductions at 38wks

DD1- had the pessary midday Monday and 24hrs of nothing. Examined at midday Tuesday and had a stretch and sweep. Contractions started around 2:30pm, had waters broken at 4:55pm, baby arrived 5:15pm. Gas and air and some stitches.

DD2 - had the pessary 10am Monday, few tightenings that evening, examined and given stretch and sweep 10am Tuesday, contractions started soon after, taken to delivery suite in afternoon where midwife said after she'd broken my waters i could have a walk around while we wait for things to happen. I told her I wasn't walking anywhere, this baby is coming now, waters broken, baby arrived 6 mins later! Gas and air and some stitches again.

Good luck for tomorrow x

LulusMiniEgg · 29/04/2018 20:35

DC2 was induced at 41+5.
Went in at 9pm and after an examination showed I was 2cm diliated I had a gel. Bit noisy on Ward so didn’t really sleep but at 8.30am I was taken to delivery suite, my waters were broken and I was ready to push an hour later! So 3cm-10cm in an hour was pretty painful but at least it was speedy!
No g&a, no drip no nothing! Minor graze and home by bedtime with a gorgeous baby girl x

HazyDays81 · 29/04/2018 21:19

I was induced with DS3 at 11 days overdue. I was scared of what was to come but had a really good experience. Pessary was put in at 12.30pm & I was allowed home. My waters broke at 4.30pm, contractions followed & I delivered with just gas & air at 9pm that evening. I had to stay on the monitor while in labour but apart from the help to kick start things with the pessary it felt very similar to my previous labour with DS2. Good luck!

lozengeoflove · 29/04/2018 21:39

I love an induction. Both times I had a pessary. DC1 from pessary to birth took 7.5 hours. With DC2 pessary given at 11 am, contractions started at 1.30 am, baby arrived an hour later, after three pushes.
Pregnant with DC3 and hoping for another induction. Haven't a clue how I'd do it otherwise Grin

mildshock · 29/04/2018 21:45

My 2nd induction was great!

Started with the pessary at 4pm, mild cramps until around 5am. Around 6am I was 0.5cm (hurrah) and at 7am I was 8cm.

DS2 was born at 10.20am, back to back, after less than 10 minutes of pushing.

It was a breeze!

Good luck for tomorrow Thanks

mildshock · 29/04/2018 21:51

Oh also, only gas and air for about 3 hours.
I had a tens machine as I was getting mostly back pain due to DS2s position.

2nd degree tear but healed quickly, and I barely noticed it.

JessieMcJessie · 30/04/2018 11:15

I was induced on my due date as I was over 40 and docs don’t recommend going overdue at that age. It was quite relaxed going to hospital on the bus for our appointment!
Pessary went in at around 10am. DS is my only child so I have nothing to compare it to, but I did feel that the labour was more constant pain (sort of growing pressure) rather than the sharp contraction and period of relief that NCT had said we could expect. So I had an epidural when I was about 1cm dilated.

Had my waters broken at maybe 5pm, was ready to push by 10. Probably due to epidural my pushing was a bit useless, so DS was born by ventouse just after midnight. That was extremely quick and caused neither of us any lasting damage.

Good luck!

Wildlingofthewest · 30/04/2018 11:26

Induced in December with first baby
I was 12 days over due

Had 3 sweeps done in the week leading up to induction but they didn’t do anything!!!

Went into be induced at 5pm on the Friday evening. Was monitored for about an hour and a half to start with. Had an examination and I was approx 3cm dilated at that stage. Pessary went in at around 7pm and I was sent home at 9pm and told to give it 24hrs and was booked to return the following evening.

Came home and went to bed, couldn’t feel the pessary aside from a slight stinging sensation.

Woke up around midnight, had a glass of water and got back into bed, rolled over to get comfy and felt my waters go.

Was in a bit of pain on way to hospital.

Pain was pretty intense for around an hour after this, was examined again to be told I was 10cm dilated!

Got into the birthing pool, had gas and air to ease pain but wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting!

Baby was born around 7am that morning,

Experience was positive- nothing traumatic to report!

Good luck today!!!!

blondie1001 · 30/04/2018 15:22

I had an amazing induction - they put me on the drip at 10am, I felt mild period-type pains for a couple of hours then had proper contractions at about 12.30pm but manageable with gas and air and then he was out by 2.15pm. Pain was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting and it felt like it was all over really quickly. Couple of tears but nothing I really noticed. My SIL had an induction recently too and said it was the most calm and straight forward out of all her five births! Good luck xxx
