Hi all, I'm 23 weeks pregnant with my first baby and this is my first message on the boards although I've been reading them for a while - we've just got a new computer with internet access and I'm not allowed to post at work.

I found the board cos I bought the 'Mums on Pregnancy' book and really enjoyed reading other mums experiences.

At the moment I'm veering between excitement and terror at the of being completely responsible for another little human being, but most of all I can't wait to meet my baby.

Anyway, sorry for waffling - just wondered if there are any other first timers out there who are feeling the same way as me?

Hi Yorkiegirl, I'm due on the 1st of December - It seems like such a long time away at the moment.

hi and welcome janos I was in the exact same position as you in January first baby, bought the book, didn't have a clue. It truly is a great website and I have had so much great information and advice. I think my best post was "Help is this my waters breaking" (I thought I had wet myself honest) well I had loads of quick replies that it was and to get myself to hospital, my baby was born about 4 and a bit hours after that!!

Best of luck with the rest of the pregnancy and the birth - it's true what they say you cannot begin to describe the feeling of seeing your baby for the first time, it was the best day of my life.

mckenzie · 07/08/2004 18:58

welcome janos and congratulations on your pregnancy. I'm pregnant with No 2 but can remember feeling just like you with No1, terrified and excited at the same time. I don't think either emotion will go away, not even after the birth.

Thank you all for your responses - must admit I wasn't expecting so many replies straight away!

It's nice to have othe mums to talk to because I don't know any other mums-to-be around here, not yet anyway - hoping that will change when I start antenatal classes.

Now that I look obviously pregnant I'm also getting a lot of comments at work. Mainly along the lines of 'when are the triplets due?', ho ho ho

Welcome, and ask anything you like. The great beauty of MN is you can chat about your nipples, piles, and other bits in complete confidence - until you go to a meet-up, or worse suggest a friend logs on!

MummyToSteven · 08/08/2004 18:55

Hi there, and congratulations on the PG. If you go to Topics and then Pregnancy, about ten threads down is a specific thread for people expecting babies in Dec 04 that you might find useful - but of course please post on other topics/threads as well - people post on all sorts of weird and wonderful subjects (but you have probably gathered that whilst lurking

edam · 08/08/2004 19:03

It's a strange mix , the combination of excitement and apprehension, isn't it? You're making me all nostalgic and ds is only just one!
Welcome to MN .

beansprout · 09/08/2004 09:54

Feel exactly the same - it's really quite overwhelming at times, but then again, I can't wait!! Everyone seems to manage and I keep telling myself that I will be able to too, even if I just can't imagine what it's like at the moment.

Welcome to MN. This has been where I have got the best advice all through my preg - not sure what I would do without it!

hana · 09/08/2004 09:56

Janos, congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm also due in December with my second. It IS such an exciting time, especially that first time around.......! Pop on over to the Due in Dec thread and have a chat with us!

Bibiboo · 09/08/2004 13:28

Janos,

Welcome! Mumsnet is a great place and as Motherinferior says, one of the only places you can openly chat about all the horrid stuff like discharge, bowel movements and disgusting cravings and get totally honest, advice/replies back...it's ace
By the way, I'm a first timer, due in less than 10 weeks (eek!) and also waddle between terrified and excited - sometimes several times a day. Mumsnet is a lifesaver, even if it's only to put your own problems into perspective and offer advice to others.

Angeliz · 09/08/2004 13:44

Welcome Janos, be warned your life will not be your own now you've discovered mumsnet:

Congratulations

ginger29 · 09/08/2004 20:02

Dear Janos,
I am expecting first baby on December 10th and am also v nervous! Have you been on Due in December 2 thread? I am dipping in and out of there. Lots of people all at same stage which is nice. What is your due date?

Janos · 30/08/2004 20:10

Hello again to everyone who has replied. Sorry I haven't had a chance to say thanks for all your lovely messages - I've been on holiday in France and am currently doing an intensive driving course so am pretty shattered at the moment!

Ginger29, My due date is the 1st of December although it has been changed twice so no doubt baby will make an appearance when he/she is ready. Have you got antenatal classes booked yet? Mine start on the 29th of September and finish on the 17th of November. Baby could be born by then......

My bump seems to be growing very quickly at the moment and my bump is very itchy/sore with plenty of nasty looking stretchmarks (ouch). I'll definetly pop down to the due in Dec thread and have a look.

Hi Janos, expecting my first baby today and its only just starting to sink in!! It must be the most exciting last 9 months of my life and I hope your pregnancy goes as well as mine did!

I didn't do half the things i read about and intended to do ie Yoga and raspberry tea and massaging the perineum etc etc so just enjoy your pregnancy in your own way as some magazines seem to make you feel bad if you gain tons of weight and the only exercise you do is raising another biscuit to your mouth!! It has been great reading about it all on here and listening to others peoples first hand experiences as well so good luck and speak to you soon!

Bibiboo · 31/08/2004 11:10

Janos, try Bio Oil for your tummy - it's a bit pricey, and in my experience doesn't get rid or prevent stretchmarks at all, but soothes tight, stretched skin and regular use leaves it supple and smooth feeling. HTH

MrsDoolittle · 31/08/2004 11:33

I found the Palmers Cocoabutter (the ordinary one in the tub) worked wonders for my growing tummy and it's relatively cheap. It's quite greasey though, so I only used it at night but it soothed the itching.
I found MN 6 months ago when I was 37 weeks pregnant and I am very pleased I did.
Welcome

Turtle35 · 31/08/2004 13:21

Hi Janos, welcome to MN, it really is a great way to openly talk about your fears and all the weird things that happen to your body when you are pg. It's my first baby and I am 32 weeks, I am so anxious to get this over and done with now. I think the support and advice I have got over the months has been so wonderful it really is a great site. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and if it's any help, Space NK (if you are in London)do a lovely oil for stretch marks, I have managed to escape them (quite honestly I don't know how, cause I am huge)!! could of been the oil

Congratulations!!

First pregnancy really is a great time to find mumsnet... That was my way too! And it has been my NHSdirect, my midwife, my parenting guru and my girl pal all at the same time. The reason for my devotion to it is lying across my knee feeding as I type, 3 months old and just as exciting and terrifying as she was when I was at your stage. Have fun! and welcome!

PotPourri · 31/08/2004 14:30

Hi Janos. Welcome. I too am expecting our first on 1 December! How weird is that. It's really exciting, and scary isn't it? I am really loving it though, and Mumsnet is fab. Maybe talk to you on the December thread.

That's us in the third trimester - eeeek!

libb · 31/08/2004 14:48

Welcome Janos! I know exactly what you mean - but I couldn't have coped without Mumsnet throughout all of the varying stages of pregnancy and birth, no doubt I will still be posting when DS is 18!

Like sweetkitty I really appreciated the "eek, my waters have broken, what now?!" input as I didn't have a clue.

You really have come to the right place. xx

libb · 31/08/2004 14:50

Forgot to add that joining your due date thread is a great help!

Thomcat · 31/08/2004 15:00

hi, welcome & congratulations.

My little girl is 3 this Xmas and I'm looking forward to being pregnant again (god-willing).

I remember very clearly sitting in Lotties empty nursery and staring at her cot and not being able to get my head round there being a baby in it soon, one who would be totally dependent on scatty old me, and that my life would never be the same again.

I went to active birth classes so felt prepared for the actual birth but nothing in the world could ever have prepared me for how wonderful being a mother would all be, all is. It's hard, tiring, scary but utterly, utterly wonderful. My life has changed for ever and i couldn't be happier about it. I can't rememebr a day when i didn't leave for work or get up at the weekend without her making me laugh. There is NOTHING in the world that can compare with unconditional love.

Good luck with everything and i look forward to reading all your posts asking about disposable knickers etc and then finally about the birth and your new born son or daughter. It's all such a wonderful, magical time.

TC xx
