Vain I know - anyone recommend a mini make up kit for my hospital bag?

I want to put a little something in there so I can freshen up ready for photos! But I don't want to stick my current make up in there as I'm going to need it in the next few weeks. I just want to have my bag packed and ready so wondering if anyone can recommend a little kit of mascara, lipgloss, blusher that's not too expensive that I can stick in my bag?

I think I'm going to get DP to apply it for me if I'm too knackered! Mind you that would prob end up making me look worse!

suzywong · 13/05/2007 16:00

that's the spirit, girl, you'll do great here

lulumama · 13/05/2007 16:01

LOL Puppie

JackieNo · 13/05/2007 16:02

Yes - definitely bear in mind that it's always roasting hot in mat wards. Maybe powder rather than foundation.

bumperlicious · 13/05/2007 16:03

Lulu, no, I just have about 50 bags each with various bits of make up in them so that when I come to go out I can never find the damn lipgloss I want!

TBH, I'm not really a make-up everyday person - too lazy, but I do like to wear it when I'm feeling a bit crap and need a pick me up or when I'm just looking too scary, both criteria I think will be valid post labour!

Puppie I have considered have DH trained in the art of hair drying and using straighteners! Can never get the back without giving myself 3rd degree burns!

Hadn't thought about hair straightening but now that you mention it ..might put DP on a crash course!

lulumama · 13/05/2007 16:10

am seeing a whole new career here., as a post natal make up artist!!

BikeBug · 13/05/2007 16:10

'tisn't a makeup kit as such, but Benefit Dandelion powder is fab - one second to dust some on, smells divine and gives you a bit of colour back. If you want just one thing, I'd recommend that!

JackieNo · 13/05/2007 16:13

Great idea lulumama - you could roam the wards, with a huge make up bag/trolley, and pounce on unsuspecting new mums, and transform them - maybe even if they were asleep....

bumperlicious · 13/05/2007 16:15

Bikebug - I'm way ahead of you - I love dandelion! But don't want to pack it away in my bag for the next 5 weeks, and don't want to be keep taking stuff in and out of it! Can't afford to buy 2nds of my whole make up bag, which is why I was looking for something like a palette. The benefit one's are lovely but a bit too pricey. Going to pop into boots tomorrow and check out the ones that JackieNo posted.

Do they not make that part of Doula training Lulu?

Isn't your makeup bag in your handbag? Won't you be taking that with you?
I wouldn't go anywhere without my makeup!

bumper - I looked like a right moose after DD so I was determined to look fancy dan after DS. I had a spray tan, manicure, pedicure, brow wax and tint, hair done and a facial just before (was a planned section so could sort these things out!) and took my make up in with me (and - to my shame - GHDs too, and used them !!!). but there's a photo of me with DH, DD and DS 3hrs after having the little monkey and it's pride of place in the sitting room!!!!!

bumperlicious · 13/05/2007 17:12

Gingermonkey - have you posted that tip before? Because I remember someone saying on one of those advice for labour or something threads saying get a spray tan, mani-pedi and brow/bikini wax, and I have have taken it straight to heart have been scouring local places where I can get the lot done cheaply!

Get your eyelashes dyed and save yourself the trouble of mascara. You're going to be a bundle of weeping hormones.

Gingermonkey · 13/05/2007 17:17

I have!!!!!! I tell all my friends too, and get very upset if they don't follow my advice (SIL looked awful when she had nephew - but she just wouldn't listen!!!!) I think that after the baby's born you'll be so knackered that if you already look great you won't need to put any make up on! I'm a wise monkey y'know AND you might as well treat yourself whilst you still have the time because once that LO comes along it's harder to think about beauty treatments and stuff. Go on, get yourself booked in and relax whilst you have a chance!

Gingermonkey · 13/05/2007 17:17

And those are wise words from Soupdragon too!

SoupDragon · 13/05/2007 17:18

Believe me, a spray tan and a manicure wasn't going to make me look any better after pushing for hours to get 10lb 1oz DS1 out of my fanjo.

lulumama · 13/05/2007 17:19

LOL! will see if that can be added to the doula training ! acksherly, i was briefly a make up artiset, doncha know! if i was more cleverer than what i am, i could actually do something with that idea !LOL!

Gingermonkey · 13/05/2007 17:20

Soupy - don't scare the poor girl . Surgery wouldn't make you look better after pushing something that size out of there!!! Neither would 3 weeks in Barbados!

BellaBear · 13/05/2007 17:22

benefit's realness of concealness is a little pack of usefulness (no mascara though)

bumperlicious · 13/05/2007 17:29

So gingermonkey - does the same go for getting a haircut too. Was debating whether to get it done while I can before the LO is born, or save it for a treat afterwards when I'm feeling crap...I think perhaps even my delusions don't stretch so far as to imagine that I will have time for a haircut once LO is here!

bumperlicious · 13/05/2007 17:42

Bella, I love it - benefit is my absolute fav! Expensive though. Been looking to see if I can get it from ebay, but by the time you've paid for postage etc. might as well have bought it new. Thinking about it though...
