When are you due?

Looks pretty good to me although I'm due my first so not 100% , the only thing I can think of that isn't on your list is nappy bags. Handy for any dirty clothes x

BertieBotts · 18/04/2018 19:12

What are the socks for if you're dressing the baby in sleepsuits? I would also skip the long sleeved vests and just take more short, I don't think long sleeved are much use on their own, they are good for inside a sleeping bag or under a dress/dungarees, though.

Other than that, I think you're good :)

Phase84 · 18/04/2018 19:20

What about comfy knickers and clothes for you?

Lip balm
Shower gel
Spare clothes
Hair bobble
Socks
Nipple cream?

Chottie · 18/04/2018 19:23

nappy bags?
Baby bottom cream?

NickMyLipple · 18/04/2018 19:26

I would take more bibs too (unless you're breast feeding in which case I'm not sure why you need bibs?)

Slack off the socks and the long sleeve vests. You'll not need either in hospital. Short sleeve vest is sufficient under the sleep suits.

You probably don't need 30 nappies either. Maybe pack 10 and leave the rest in the car?

Buglife · 18/04/2018 19:29

It’s quite warm on the wards so I don’t think the baby will need long sleeved vest, sleepsuit and cardigan on while indoors. You’ll want to have some skin to skin time so not 3 layers! I took 3 vests and 3 sleepsuits, it’s likely you’ll be out next day at most of us a straightforward birth? If something happens that requires you to stay in, have a second bag packed at home with more clothes that your partner or family member can bring in to save all that luggage? Also if I remember the hospital provide a blanket. I second that socks are pointless with sleepsuits, it’s much more likely for a baby to overheat in those wards than be too cold and you’ll be indoors and holding the baby mostly so they’ll be warm from you.

mummyto1girl · 18/04/2018 19:31

LittleFox01 I'm due the 19th of may with a. Little girl this is my first too so I've just got no clue, not started packing mine yet but will do in the next couple of days! Thanks Smile

Skip the socks and get baby grows with feet. All the newborn baby grows I had also came with scratch mits so check as you likely won’t need seperate ones. 2 cardigans probably aren’t necessary as the hospital will be warm. I just took the one for the journey home. I don’t think nappy rash creams are reccomended for babies that young so I’d consider skipping that too (maybe ask the midwife). I don’t know what you mean by comforter as here in the US a comforter is a duvet but if it’s some sort of soft toy then skip it, baby will be oblivious. And add nappy bags to your list.

mummyto1girl · 18/04/2018 19:33

The hats and cardigans and blankets are for coming home, I just want to be prepared incase I have to Stay in and I live a distance from the hospital Smile

If you are planning on bottle feeding you will need to take your own milk and bottles. Easiest way round this is buy a hospital pack or 2 (you can get from supermarkets) that comes with pre filled cartons and disposable teats.

scrivette · 18/04/2018 19:36

I would suggest packing everything into freezer bags so that you can find things easily.

Mybabystolemysanity · 18/04/2018 19:37

Take a pot of vaseline. We made the mistake of not using a barrier cream from the very start and poor wee DD's bum was in an awful mess by three weeks. Vaseline has been amazing and only two episodes of nappy rash in 16 months (because I gave her broccoli)

SamanthaH92 · 18/04/2018 19:50

A little tip for you, i found incontinence pads much better than door stop pads for after baby. Lots of coverage and suprisingly comfortable! Also defiently take hats. Dd1 was a june baby and it was hot but the mdiwife made my OH go and buy some hats for her to wear, apprently they need them to help their temps. I took ready made milk bottles in as well incase she didn't latch and she didn't x

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 18/04/2018 20:23

Looks pretty good although I wouldn't bother with the long-sleeved vests, socks and scratch mitts. Also if you are planning on breastfeeding it's not recommended to use a dummy until feeding is established, so maybe lose that too along with the comforter (baby won't know it's there). 30 nappies is quite a lot, as a PP suggested maybe leave some in the car in case you end up staying in. It's good to be prepared but there's not a lot of space on the wards and the last thing you want when you're sore from giving birth is having to rifle through an overflowing suitcase.

scrivette · 18/04/2018 20:35

Also, it's REALLY hot on the wards, I would recommend a hand held fan, loose cool clothing for you and sending OH out for lollies and ice cream.

LittleFox01 · 18/04/2018 20:45

Ah how exciting @mummyto1girl , not much longer to go! I'm having a little boy due 8th May, but I'm being induced next Wednesday, so he will be just under 2 weeks early. I personally wouldn't take the long sleeve vests as like everyone else has said it's always warm in the hospital.

Xx

LeighaJ · 18/04/2018 21:03

Have you included a special outfit for taking her home?

Baby nail clippers, for those freakishly sharp nails they all seem to come out with.

I was told bibs still come in handy with breast feeding for spit up and such.

It's a good idea to get the car seat setup soon as well. My husband and I had no previous experience with them and found the isofix base was a bit trickier than anticipated. We bought the base second-hand and it lacked instructions, but YouTube saved the day.

PasstheStarmix · 18/04/2018 21:07

Agree with Bertie, take extra short sleeved body suits and ditch the long sleeved ones. You don’t need socks as sleep suits have feet in them. Sleep suit should also have mits built in meaning you won’t need me those.

PasstheStarmix · 18/04/2018 21:07

need those*

PasstheStarmix · 18/04/2018 21:09

And another vote for extra bibs, asda do a pack of 10 disposable for about a pound

Bellabutterfly2016 · 18/04/2018 21:23

Pack some flip flops for you to go to shower rooms but also it is very warm in these hospitals and slippers make your feet very hot!

Also pack some snacks and mineral water with sports tops got labour and flannels

The list could go on and on but I used all those things

Hope all goes well! X

BertieBotts · 18/04/2018 21:34

I didn't use bibs until we started solids. Muslins are fine for mopping and propping to soak up boob leaks, during or between feeds! I might actually take more than 3, maybe 5.

Not all sleepsuits have scratch mitts built in but Mothercare ones do, I think John Lewis as well? Not sure.

They defo insist on hats in postnatal ward, they are obsessed with hats! I never used them really at home. But you only need one unless you specifically want to coordinate with outfits Grin because they don't get dirty. Cardigan is useful in case chilly but I agree it's more likely to be too hot than too cold.

I don't think there's any harm in taking dummies but I didn't give one until I felt we really needed it. So I didn't buy any until then either. If you've already got them, chuck them in, why not?

If you have a breastfeeding support cushion, take that - the hospital won't have their own.

PasstheStarmix · 18/04/2018 21:50

Sainsbury’s sleepsuits do and m and s do. Most sleepsuits I found did have the mitts built in. Maybe just check the ones you have.

PasstheStarmix · 18/04/2018 21:52

Are the cardigans for you to take little one home in maybe? One would probably be enough as hospitals get very warm.

hairymorag · 18/04/2018 21:56

Muslins, Kindle/Ipad for mum, no need for socks if in a sleep suit, charger for your phone, breast pads if your breast feeding and breast feeding bras. Housecoat and slippers for you and large pads too. Very exciting ...
