Can't find heartbeat at 34week midwife appointment has anyone had this?

34 weeks and saw midwife who tried to listen in to baby. Got another midwife to try too and both couldn't find it so now I'm on my way to the antenatal unit. It's scary. Has anyone had the same? What happened please??

If baby is moving then that's still a positive sign but can't they get the heartbeat using the ultrasound? They can point it into the heart and hear it that way! Baby probably curled into an awkward position.

MrsJackHackett · 17/04/2018 14:05

Yes I had it and they're an absolute terror now. Easier said that done but try not to worry.

MilkyCoffeeAndSkinnySyrup · 17/04/2018 14:06

Just saw your update! Fantastic news. X

MrsJackHackett · 17/04/2018 14:07

So glad everything is ok, they like to keep us on our toes. If ever in doubt about movements, I was given a cold drink during CTG's. So maybe chilled water or something else you like.

Sorry for the stress.

Oh gosh! So pleased to read that everything is ok! Little monkeys! I had similar when I was pregnant with my DD. I 'd gone into the hospital for monitoring and the mw couldn't find her heartbeat. She was lovely and calm and reassuring. She said it was probably just her, but she went off to get a doc for a second opinion. Doc came back with a different doppler and found DD heartbeat almost immediately. Never felt so relieved in my whole life. I still think about that moment when she's having one of her diva moments and remind myself how lucky I am to have her. When the doc found her heartbeat the lovely calm midwife visibly sagged and said "oh thank god for that" She must have been worried but didn't show it. I told her she could have a career in poker.

Excellent news mum to be:-)

May I as a man also add my feelings of relief for you. We have four grown up sons and number 3 (now aged 32) gave us a scary time at about 32 weeks with a night in hospital. We thought something was starting off but it turned out to be practice Brixton-Hicks contractions. He came 3 weeks before his due date so he was obviously eager to get out and get on. He still is!

With all 4 now grown up and either married or in LTRs I can’t wait to be a grandfather but none seems to be in a hurry to start a family. Being so ready for grandchildren makes me re-live how it was when ours were babies and DW and I enjoy playing with babies of friends and other acquaintances. This post took me right back and I’m so glad all has turned out well.

Great news op!

Seafoodeatit · 17/04/2018 14:32

I'm so glad everything is okay, I had the same happen at around a similar time in my last pregnancy - the scan in hospital was terrifying!

peacheachpearplum · 17/04/2018 14:37

What a relief, probably not the last time they will frighten you to death though. You need nerves of steel to be a parent.

SomeKnobend · 17/04/2018 14:42

Great news!

OlennasWimple · 17/04/2018 14:43

Think of it as practice for when they stand at the top of the climbing frame and shout "look mummy, I don't need to hold on!" - plenty of heart in mouth moments as a parent Smile

I'm so glad everything is OK, hope that you have a smooth rest of pregnancy and birth Flowers

Sashkin · 17/04/2018 14:44

DS was oblique breech lie with an anterior placenta, so the midwives used to have immense trouble finding his HR too (I was an inpatient for all my third trimester so they were checking him a lot).

Luckily because he was oblique, his feet were up under my liver and his head was under my spleen so I always knew EXACTLY what he was up to - every little leg stretch was really bloody painful!

Backhometothenorth · 17/04/2018 14:44

Thank goodness ThanksCake

I’m so relieved for you. I’ve been thinking about you all afternoon, worrying about you. So pleased everything’s fine.
