Still not feeling movements

I'm nearly 20 weeks and at my 13 week scan, the placenta was noted as being high and anterior so i do appreciate that movements might be felt late. But, surely I should be feeling something by now? My 20 week scan isn't for another week (when I'll be 20+6) and I'm really starting to feel anxious.

Anyone else not feel movement until this late?

Didn’t feel a thing until 21+4 then he rolled into position as striker on my ribs.

mogulfield · 15/04/2018 23:29

I didn’t feel anything (or so I thought)... then during 20 week scan he moved and I realised that I had been feeling him all along but hasn’t realised! Hopefully you’ll have the same experience.

zaalitje · 16/04/2018 02:58

I was 21 weeks (posterior placenta) and have friends who were 23/24 weeks and 26 weeks, the latter friend being quite petite too.

StylishMummy · 16/04/2018 03:08

I didn't feel DD1 until 21-22 weeks

Bumblealong1 · 16/04/2018 03:10

Hi,
I’m 26 weeks and still don’t feel very much. At 24 weeks I felt 3-5 movements but nothing before or since since. I’m a size 10-12 and also have placenta towards the front. It’s my first baby.
I went for a scan last week as I was worried, and that showed the baby was moving and growing fine- I just couldn’t feel her.
The sonograohers weren’t at all worried by the fact I couldn’t feel her yet. I really really wouldn’t worry at 20weeks.
And try not to be anxious. I know it’s easier said than done. But try and channel lots of positive energy, tell yourself aloud that your baby is doing great and growing strong..

broad86 · 16/04/2018 03:24

Same here anterior placenta and barely felt anything till about 25 weeks that I could
Definitely say was baby - I had a few twitches from about 20 weeks that were like the odd muscle twitch like u might get in ur eye or leg like maybe once a day if I was very still. Didn't feel crazy full on movement that other people could see and feel till like 30 weeks.

PinkAvocado · 16/04/2018 03:36

First pregnancy I had an anterior placenta and didn’t feel anything until about 26-28 weeks and then barely anything for the whole pregnancy which led to a lot of monitoring.

Second pregnancy I had an anterior placenta again but it was higher and I felt movement earlier on but some days it would mask the movements. I had to be monitored 5 times.

This is from the kickscount.org website:

‘How often should my baby move?
There is no set number of normal movements. Your baby will have their own
pattern of movements that you should get to know. From 16 – 24 weeks on
you should feel the baby move more and more up until 32 weeks then stay
roughly the same until you give birth.’

I’m nearly 21 weeks (on weds) I have anterior and can’t feel any movements yet :( its frustrating just wish I knew exactly what it felt like. But first time Mum here! So waiting on little man to give me the boot!

RicStar · 16/04/2018 06:42

Yeah it can be hard with anterior this is my second anterior pregnancy I've have also had one with posterior the difference for me was extreme. That one I felt baby all the time. I think this one (2nd anterior) dc3 I am a bit more aware of movements at 28 weeks than I was with dc1 but still regularly go for hours with no movements felt at all which is of course is worrying. I am not sure what you can do really - talk to your midwife I guess - count the kicks is great unless you cant feel any kicks which seems more common than is ever mentioned elsewhere.

deptfordgirl · 16/04/2018 06:47

With both of mine I didn't feel anything until after my 20 week scan. I'm sure everything is fine.

kirinm · 16/04/2018 07:09

Thanks all. On the countdown to my scan now so that's something. Have had a bit of a nightmare pregnancy so far which follows multiple miscarriages so it's really hard to stay positive a lot of the time!

I was almost 23 weeks before I felt anything I could definitely say was movement. I know it's hard but try not to worry.

Minkies13 · 16/04/2018 08:19

I have an anterior low placenta and I'm now 21+6 weeks. I'm a FTM as well and I only started feeling anything just after 20 weeks.

I didn't get any of the butterfly feelings or bubbles described by others. It was so tiny and slight. More like the smallest nudges and twitches. I could only feel them when wearing tight jeans and sitting in a chair after dinner. I only felt it about 2 times a night.

Slowly it has become more pronounced over the last week. I still only feel her move a couple of times a day/night. My husband was able to feel her for the first time last night.

Hang in there. It won't be long until you feel something.

rollingonariver · 16/04/2018 08:23

I didn't really feel much at all during my pregnancy. Safe to say I was in hospital for check ups a lot 😂 she's fine though, she was a very sleepy baby so I think she was just lazy in the womb !

CJ1990 · 16/04/2018 11:18

I’m 20 weeks Friday and nothing. I keep getting told by the professionals that it’s fine. They’re totally not worried and said anything up to 24 week is normal (I’m impatient and have asked the question a lot!!) :)

badg3r · 16/04/2018 11:19

I didn't feel anything with either of mine until after the 20 week scan. No movements yet is definitely not a cause for concern.

HippyChickMama · 16/04/2018 11:40

I had anterior placenta with dd and I remember being surprised at the 20 week scan at how much of her movements I couldn't feel. I had felt some before this but not regularly and I only knew what it was because she was my second. When is your next mw appointment? You should be able to listen in on the baby's heartbeat and you can sometimes hear movements on the Doppler. That might put your mind at rest.

kirinm · 16/04/2018 11:45

My next mw appointment isn't for ages. I've got an appointment with a consultant before I see a Mw again and they're both after my scan next week.

I'm also wondering how I get my MATB form if I don't see my midwife until I'm close to 26w.

This is my second but my son was 22 years ago so absolutely zero recollection of what movements felt like!

HippyChickMama · 16/04/2018 11:46

If you're really concerned you can phone your mw and book in earlier although I don't think you need to worry.

kirinm · 16/04/2018 11:48

I'm tempted to call the mw but don't want to waste anyone's time. Even considered buying a Doppler but have read bad things about that so trying not to.

Anterior placenta here.. absolutely nothing until 23 weeks so you may have a few more weeks yet. I'm now 27 weeks.

My friend didn't feel anything until 27 weeks and midwives aren't concerned until around 24/25 weeks.

You'll get there, just got to be patient and try not to worry (although I know from very recent experience, it's hard!)

lifechangesforever · 16/04/2018 11:54

You'll get your MATB1 form at your 26 week appointment with midwife, I get mine tomorrow (when I'm actually 27 week). I've told work my maternity dates and filled relevant forms but just let them know MATB will follow shortly, they were fine with that and I work for a large NHS organisation.

lindyhopy · 16/04/2018 15:29

I was 21 weeks when i could feel movement. At the 20 week scan she was wriggling loads but I couldnt feel anything

CRZ1988 · 16/04/2018 17:01

I'm only 15 weeks gone so won't be feeling anything yet but just wondered what an anterior placenta was and how would you find out if you had one?

itallhappensforareason · 16/04/2018 17:07

Just echoing what everyone else has said really but wanted to comment to offer you more reassurance. I am 19+4 and haven't felt anything yet either. According to NHS guidelines it can be anytime up to 24 weeks. I know its hard not to worry!
