I have managed to get tickets to see my favourite band, who don't come to London very much, and I'm delighted! But... I'll be 34 weeks pregnant on the day of the gig - would it be a bad idea to go? Will loud noise upset the baby?

Dont know about that - not sure that i would go.

I DJ dance music in my spare time and had a gig booked for the bank holiday monday just gone and for tonight, but just didn't want to put myself in that situation - noisey, smokey clubs filled with trashed people - so i rang the promoters, explained i was pg and said that i thought it best to not do the gig. They were fine about it and totally understood.

So anyway, what i'm trying to say is that i personally wouldn't go to a gig at 34 weeks.

Taylormama · 11/05/2007 10:46

i went to see a musical at 37 weeks pg with loads of drumming and noise and baby loved it - he was dancing in my tummy the whole time! Go - you will both have a great time

frumpygrumpy · 11/05/2007 10:47

GO! It might be loud, it won't change anything and have a great time. I have been to concerts whilst heavily pregnant and just enjoyed it and also, everyone lets you go to the loo first

rantinghousewife · 11/05/2007 10:48

Yeah go, I went to see Ride and The Charlatans when I was 8 months pg. My ds is fine. It'll be fine, just a bit tiring for you.

lazycat · 11/05/2007 10:56

Summerfruit - Sonic Youth, my all-time favourite band.

Well - I went to see live bands at 37 weeks, just at a local pub but very very noisy. I got home that night and my waters broke. dd was born the next day. Could be just a coincidence though!

Chirpygirl · 11/05/2007 11:06

I went to the drag races when I was 30 weeks, DD jumped a bit when someone started a jet engine next to me but other than that didn't seem to behave any differently.
I would be more worried about crowds than noise TBH (but then I hate crowds!)

RGPargy · 11/05/2007 11:14

If you dont have a seat, i would seriously think about it as you'll get knackered!

If you're going to a seated concert, then i guess that's going to be different and you'd probs be ok.

doggiesayswoof · 11/05/2007 11:22

I went to lots of loud gigs when pg (not as late as 34 weeks, but would have been ok I think). Go for it - if it's Sonic Youth the crowd should be (ahem) slightly older on average and maybe a bit more sensible? (Not dissing the youngsters in any way obviously) And you can stay near the back.

A really smoky club would be a bit different though.

MrsBadger · 11/05/2007 11:26

I went to small (but noisy) gigs at 11, 17 and 25wks without any problems.
Standing next to a wall so you can take some of the weight off your feet is a good plan if you can manage it.

I say go, but warn DH that you're not up for moshing and/or might get tired and need to sit down...

PregnantGrrrl · 11/05/2007 11:29

apparently my favourite band are playing in August, i'll be about 7mths. i can't miss it, but i won't be able to stand at the front and sing with the lead like i usually do

i might sit at the bar with binoculars though!

Woooozle100 · 11/05/2007 11:30

Hey - don't bank on an older crowd being more sedate! I went to PWEI reformation gig when pg with dd - it was rammed (prolly with no one under 30 in the place). I was allowed to sit in the bit sectioned off for wheelchair users / people with disabilities. Got an ace view and wasn't squashed in the slightest. There was another heavily pg woman in there too. Maybe ask the venue beforehand if that would be possible for you.

Ah don't worry about the loud noise - dd also got to experience Motorhead in utero. And this bun is going to a festival in a few months Think of it more as an education...

noseynora · 11/05/2007 11:51

Hmm, a friend of mine was advised not to go to a concert in later stages of pregnancy - not sure the exact reasons TBH, but was to do with the loud noise. Maybe the baby can hear it or picks up on the vibrations or something

PregnantGrrrl · 11/05/2007 11:56

ah, every child should hear the Ace of Spades pre-birth i reckon!

suzywong · 11/05/2007 11:58

hell, I would go at 34 weeks.
But don't mosh
and don't stand near the bass amps

I took ds1 to see Foo Fighters and QOTSA at 11 weeks pg, and he loves them still.

Ilovebabies · 11/05/2007 12:17

I'm going to T in the Park when i will be 35 weeks. Went when 6 months pregnant with ds1 and had no problems. Just planning to sit at the main stage for both days.

I would go if there were a seat - did pass up seeing Bob Dylan at 37 weeks on the basis that it would involve standing for many hours.

pickledpear · 11/05/2007 12:20

i had tickets for third row from front for final boyzone concert at wembly i would of been 39+5 it turned out i went into labour the day before and so chose to stay with baby in SCBU rather than see Ronan

Woooozle100 · 11/05/2007 12:21

Ah I don't mind a bit of smashing pumpkins. Lost track of em a bit after siamese dream mind (that is making me feel old!)

I would love to see sonic youth - saw them at phoenix festival (mm that was a bit ago too)and they were ace

curlyshirley · 11/05/2007 12:45

go for it! I went to see erasure when pg with ds1, even managed a little dance in celebration of andy's blue hotpants(!) - though hubbie was paranoid baby would turn out to be gay???????????????? men are mad!!!!!!

RGPargy · 11/05/2007 13:19

curley shirly i am jealous!! I would love to have seen erasure!!!

I also turned down tickets to Glastonbury this year because i didn't see the point of getting knackered and tired and uncomfortable in the rain, and then not even being able to do it all p1ssed as a fart either!

I really miss boozing!!!
