What is says on the tin, really. Mum mum had terrible morning sickness with all 3 of us, should I be expecting the same?

My mum was horrifically sick with all of us, but I wasn't sick at all.

I don't think so. Mum ad a very close relationship with the toilet when she was having me. I had no morning sickness at all.

Groovee · 05/04/2018 17:46

My gran had horrific morning sickness and my mum had nothing.

I was terrible with Dd until about 25 weeks. Was sick throughout with Ds but only until 9am.

Raines100 · 05/04/2018 17:47

My grandmother had no morning sickness whatsoever. My mum had morning sickness for the whole 9 months. I had HG, but only for 3 months, and then it vanished!

originalusernamefail · 05/04/2018 17:49

Mum was v sick
I had HG
Both my DC are boys so will never know if it would pass down again 😉

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 05/04/2018 17:51

Nope! I felt sick until week 19, then from week 29. Oh, and it came back when my milk came in.

DM had four pregnancies and never felt sick once. 😡

Sushirolls · 05/04/2018 17:52

I was sick with all 4 of mine (was also throwing up through labour with my first). My DD has had absolutely zero sickness and is coming up 18 weeks Smile

My mom had no sickness with me & mild nausea with twins; I was sick as a dog with all of my singletons. Big difference: she was a smoker & I'm not, smoking does reduce severity of MS.

Pinkvoid · 05/04/2018 18:09

Interestingly my DM only had it with my Dbro and I only had it with boys too.

CobaltRose · 05/04/2018 18:20

I has horrible morning sickness and my mum didn't.

53rdWay · 05/04/2018 18:28

If your mum had bad sickness, then you're statistically more likely to get it yourself. But it's not guaranteed!

LyricalGangster · 05/04/2018 18:34

My mum had zero morning sickness, my cousins all had mild nausea, i always end up on a drip for severe hg.

However all our birth experience/labours are very similar. Mild period pains at the start of contractions, then suddenly they ramp up to being painful and within 30 minutes baby is out.

RosieCotton · 05/04/2018 18:45

My mom had zero sickness and i unfortunately had HG so i dont think so x

Amirite · 05/04/2018 18:49

My mum was sick during all her pregnancies but I wasn’t when pregnant... with twins!

Anatidae · 05/04/2018 18:50

I’m a geneticist.

There is probably a hereditary component- we still don’t know the exact cause or causes of severe morning sickness/hg. There’s some interesting new work out linking a couple of specific genes to HG. So yes, it’s hereditary although it’s important to note that hereditary doesn’t mean ‘exactly the same as what happened with your mum.’

Anatidae · 05/04/2018 18:51

Both my DC are boys so will never know if it would pass down again 😉

It appears to be hereditary on both sides so watch for those grandchildren ! :)

Dobbythesockelf · 05/04/2018 18:52

My mum had no morning sickness with any of her pregnancies. Me and my 2 sisters all had terrible sickness, 2 of us hospitalised. So I have no idea if it's hereditary or not.

Elledouble · 05/04/2018 18:54

My mom had little morning sickness with my sister and I but it was terrible with my brother. I had mild sickness (just when my stomach was empty) with my child for about 6 weeks. I think it’s the luck of the draw.

Ethelswith · 05/04/2018 18:56

My DMum told me she was so sick she had a bowl handy at all times.

I lost appetite and sense of taste, but didn't throw up.

Quite strongly hereditary - women whose sister/s experience it are 17x more likely to themselves newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/women-with-family-history-of-extreme-177990

SVRT19674 · 05/04/2018 19:00

No. My mother could puke for England and did the whole time she was pregnant with me, up until the day before I was born. I haven't been sick or even nauseated for a split second. It can even vary from pregnancy to pregnancy in the same woman!

LeighaJ · 05/04/2018 19:13

I'm the only person in my immediate family to not get morning sickness.

I read somewhere that people who have never had motion/travel sickness of any type and don't feel easily nauseated are less likely to get morning sickness. Which makes it sound like it's more down to the individual's proclivity to vomit then genetics.

My Mom and sister both get motion sickness while I never have.

KnitFastDieWarm · 05/04/2018 19:21

My mum had bad morning sickness with me and very little with my brother; I was nauseous 24-7 from weeks 5 to 15 to the extent that I was signed off work and on antiemetics, and then I threw up at least twice a day til about 25 weeks Envy
Worth it though Smile
