Recommendations for double prams?

Lollipopp · 25/03/2018 22:09

I'm looking for recommendations for double buggies/prams, I will have a 1yr old and a newborn

I'd ideally like a tandem one as I've heard side by side can be a nightmare on narrow-ish pavements and shopping but open to suggestions and would love to hear all your opinions!

I hope I put this on the right topic i wanted to put on aibu for traffic but I'm too scared to post in that section

TIA Grin

Go to eBay

Type in "icandy peach tandem"

Voilà.

Don't but a new one, the expense IME is really not worth it.

And massive congrats. A small age gap is a wonderful thing x

Haybow · 25/03/2018 22:16

Take a look at the mountain buggy duet or nipper 360, both narrow for side by sides and much nicer to push than a tandem.

The icandy is very heavy with anything other than little babies in there.

BeansMrSeanandHeinz · 25/03/2018 22:17

Hauck Duett - £250 new, we got ours second hand, best £80 we ever spent. I can testify it fits in buses and through doors and their customer service is good. And Congratulations!

Baubletrouble43 · 25/03/2018 22:19

love my nipper 360. Economical, easy to handle and narrow enough for doorways. Its fab.

snackarella · 25/03/2018 22:20

Bugaboo donkey

daisydalrymple · 25/03/2018 22:21

We had a Phil and teds sport, I still wish we’d got a nipper or mountain buggy to be honest. Think they’re much more ‘sociable’ for the babies

faireemuff · 25/03/2018 22:24

Phil and teds. Miss that pram!!!

Esker · 25/03/2018 22:35

I have a 15 month old and expecting DC2 in 6 weeks. We are getting the Mountain Buggy Duet on the recommendation of our nanny who has used lots of double buggies working with several families and it's her preferred choice. It's a fairly narrow side by side which, according to her (and online reviews) can fit through standard doorways no problem.

If you're definitely set on tandem I have heard good things about Uppa Baby Vista.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 25/03/2018 22:36

Loved my phil and teds!!

mrssmith1415 · 26/03/2018 08:31

Bugaboo donkey every time. Even a second hand one will be brilliant, you can get a version 1.1 for £450ish. I candy seats are very small you might not get much use out of it for your 1yo. With the donkey if the toddler outgrows the seat you can buy the buffalo seat fabric and use that to give them more space as it’s deeper. Nipper 360 is meant to be very good too

I vote for the baby jogger city mini double! Fab pushchair! Pushing it is a dream!

StayAChild · 26/03/2018 09:45

Out and About nipper is very easy to push and goes through shop doors fine. 3 year old is still very comfortable in it. It was a toss up between that and the Mountain buggy but the Out and About was more roomy for the 2nd child.

TriJo · 26/03/2018 14:19

22 month gap here and we love our Out n About Nipper double.

Oysterbabe · 26/03/2018 14:28

I have the mountain buggy duet which I'm currently using for my 2 year old and 3 month old. It's the narrowest side by side on the market and it's great. An absolute dream to push and fits through any standard door. I personally prefer a side by side as I feel a bit sorry for the kid that ends up stuck at the back. My friend has one, I think it's a Phil and Ted's, and the baby is pretty much in a bag hanging off the bottom.

Hypermice · 26/03/2018 14:32

I’ve been looking at the same thing and tandems are really hard to push - I know I certainly would have struggled after ds1s birth by c section with it.

Ideally I’d like a side by side with reversible seats but there is only the donkey and that seems to bulky to fold. MB duet looks OK.

FoofFighter · 26/03/2018 14:34

The only tandem I'd ever consider getting again is the Phil & Teds.

Mol1628 · 26/03/2018 14:34

Out n about nipper the newest version. It’s deceptively narrow and so much easier to manoeuvre than a tandem.

Zebrasinpyjamas · 26/03/2018 14:37

Out n about nipper (the 4 wheeled version) fits through every door I've tried with it. It was great for my chunky two/three year old.

JadeT2 · 26/03/2018 14:47

We've really struggled with this and have just bought a Mountain Buggy Duet ex display, so cheaper than it should be. We currently have the Urbo which is one of the narrowest prams available so the idea of buying some sort of monster buggy was really difficult, and I don't like tandem ones as the child underneath always looks uncomfortable. The Mountain Buggy Duet is 64cm wide I believe, so should fit through most standard doors.

OhBergine · 26/03/2018 14:53

Don't go with the Bugaboo Donkey - it's MASSIVE!! Getting in and around shops and cafes is a nightmare.

I have the ICandy Peach tandem for my 1yo and newborn and it works a dream. I know a pp indicated it was heavy, but when you have two babies in a pram the last thing you want is some flimsy cheap thing that can't go up and down pavements.

Oysterbabe · 26/03/2018 14:59

My friend has the donkey and it is indeed massive. She has to build it outside, then put the babies in. Then when getting home, take the babies in then go back out and dismantle it so she can get it through the door. I often wheel my mountain buggy duet in and leave them napping in the hall.

Anatidae · 26/03/2018 15:07

oysterbabe is it easy to fold? I’d be using it both for walking but also to throw in the car - we have an estate car so a big boot but I really dont want a monster buggy. Hoping ds will finally get a daycare place within walking distance (after two sodding years in the queue) in jan so it’d need to cope with a lot of snow and also be ok to put in the car.
I love the reversible seats on the donkey but the food just looks huge.

So little choice for a reversible seat side by side!!

JadeT2 · 26/03/2018 15:34

The Mountain Buggy is really heavy but the latest version folds down flat enough for most cars, definitely an estate. The newborn carrycot is separate though so has to be taken off first. It's easy to fold as well but I do struggle, being quite short.

Oysterbabe · 26/03/2018 15:40

It is easy to fold. It fits in the boot of our little Peugeot 307. Just. We have the latest model, which is slightly smaller than the older one. As pp says, the carrycot is separate. You don't have to get one though, it lies flat and can be used from birth. We bought a cheap cozy toes from Amazon.

Chocolateanddiamonds · 26/03/2018 21:52

I'm thinking of the mountain buggy duet for my 18 month gap but I like a easy seat recline. I know it's not a lever is it easy to put the seat from lay flat to sat up with child in the seat?
