Recommendations for double prams?

Lollipopp · 25/03/2018 22:09

I'm looking for recommendations for double buggies/prams, I will have a 1yr old and a newborn

I'd ideally like a tandem one as I've heard side by side can be a nightmare on narrow-ish pavements and shopping but open to suggestions and would love to hear all your opinions!

I hope I put this on the right topic i wanted to put on aibu for traffic but I'm too scared to post in that section

TIA Grin

The recline isn't the smoothest. You have to loosen or tighten straps. You can do it easily enough with the child in there but takes a bit of practice to get it right and it's not as good as the recline function on other buggys.

@Hypermice the cosatto to and fro is a side by side which I think has reversible seats.

Hypermice · 27/03/2018 07:29

hotchoc

Yeah it looks cute but the wheels are tiny so it’s a no go (where I live has a metre of snow still right now!)

hotchocolate86 · 27/03/2018 08:03

Ah no worries. It probably wouldn’t be much good for you in that case hypermice.

Just a tip - I bought my nipper brand new direct from the outnabout website from the outlet. It was a second. It had a small scratch on the frame and instead of paying 449 quid I paid 319!

Baubletrouble43 · 27/03/2018 09:07

Ps I couldn't even find the scratch when it arrived! It was perfect!

honeysucklejasmine · 27/03/2018 09:12

Nipper, without a doubt. No trouble fitting through doorways at all. Turns on a penny and light enough to easily steer with 1 hand. Mine in (at least) 3rd hand and still going strong. You can buy replacement parts on the website too so can get a banged up old one and just replace knackered bits much cheaper than buying new.

My friend has an iCandy peach and complains it's too heavy.

Tooken · 27/03/2018 20:14

Had an Icandy peach but by the time my twins were a year old had swapped to a mountain buggy because I felt sorry for the baby at the back and I wanted something that could fold without removing the seats etc. Never found a door we can't fit through and it goes in the boot easy enough although it feels very heavy to lift in. I think I'm the third owner it's a 2012 version and it's still going strong. Definitely recommend it

Lollipopp · 28/03/2018 10:02

Oh wow thank you so much for all your replies - I'm so tired I forgot I even put this up! I found out I'm being induced early in 2 weeks time so I've been running around like a headless chicken! WHY HAVE I LEFT IT SO LATE!

I'm actually considering the mountain buggy duet now as that seems to have a lot of votes, can anyone tell me how small it is when folded and fitting it in a boot? ( I have a small boot) And if it's easy/quick to set it up and down? I live in an old house with a doorway that could hardly fit a single through the door so it would be a case of setting up/down outside and quickly getting the children in.

Ahh it's all starting to feel very real now Shock

I've got a Mountain Buggy Duet (currently for sale if you live in Berkshire!).

Brilliant side-by-side. Fits through all doorways and down right shopping aisles. It's a dream to push and my kids (newborn and 2 when I got it) loved it.

Emus · 28/03/2018 10:23

It does take up quite a bit of boot space though - that's the only downside. I had a Honda Civic and it filled this leaving room for a few shooing bags.

Prettylovely · 28/03/2018 10:29

Baby jogger city select, Best buggy I have ever brought. I got mine second hand in mint condition.
You can also use it as a single and switch the seats round, it also holds baby carseat carrier.

mintich · 28/03/2018 10:33

Does anyone have the silver cross? Choosing between that and mountain buggy

constantflux · 28/03/2018 13:20

As a childminder, I've had just about every double going - city select, first wheels, nipper, m&p umbrella fold, maclaren, oyster max, Phil and teds (the vibe and the sport), bugaboo donkey, mountain buggy duo and duet, cosatto tandem, a graco tandem... by far the best is the mountain buggy duet, and I'm currently on my second. We go out in the woods a lot and walk a lot of miles every week, and this is robust enough to deal with poor terrain. It fits through all doorways and easily fits on the bus, and babies can be rear facing for quite a long time - I've an 18 month old who can still rear face, which is really good for conversation etc. It's also nicely weighted so that it tips up and down kerbs and rolls/turns easily - its heavy to lift into the boot but doesn't feel heavy when pushing it.

The downside - it's big when folded compared to some, and the carrycot/shopping basket/parent facing seat need to come off to fold it. Doesn't bother me though, as it takes about 20 seconds for me to remove the cot and fold into the boot, it's very simple.

MrsMarigold · 28/03/2018 13:36

I preferred the nipper to the mountain buggy easier to steer imho

Nousername2015 · 28/03/2018 13:44

Can I throw the britax B Agile out there? Not reversible but has a window at the top to keep an eye on the kids (2 and 3 months). Fits through all the doorways I've needed to go through and I like that the children are side by side and can see each other when they are older.

constantflux · 29/03/2018 19:24

I'd agree that the nipper is slightly easier to steer - on flat ground - because it's lighter. Off road on muddy tracks, snow etc it's not as good because it only has the one wheel at the front, so I found it less stable on uneven ground.

It all depends on what sort of walking you're going to do. If it's mainly pavements and you don't mind it not rear facing, then the nipper is definitely lighter and cheaper!

Hypermice · 29/03/2018 19:35

Theee wheelers not great in snow or over rough ground. Shame because the nipped looks great.

Why is there not a double which folds like the babyjogger but has reversible seats??

Emus · 31/03/2018 08:42

There is @Hypermouse - The Mountain Buggy Duet (newer version). Smile

Hypermice · 31/03/2018 20:20

Are both seats reversible? Or is it the carrycot plus thingy?

constantflux · 31/03/2018 23:05

The carrycot plus has a parent facing seat with it which is suitable to 15kg (about 3 years ish) though it may not last that long size wise depending on the child.
