Just wondering what’s the norm. I’m 31 weeks and panicking a bit.

35 weeks! Had all the bits we needed but it was all still
In boxes. Don’t worry too much about the nursery at this stage, your little one will presumably be in your room to start with? So as long as you have a crib or somewhere for them to sleep in your room your fine! My little boy was born on 23rd December, we got home on Christmas Eve around 7pm and the house was a mess for about 4 weeks - presents for baby mostly! You’ll be fine!!

Chienrouge · 19/03/2018 13:13

I’d probably bought everything by about 38 weeks. I didn’t set up nurseries until after they were born as I knew they’d be in with me for the first 6 months anyway.

redavocado · 19/03/2018 13:13

I'm 38 weeks and we still haven't sorted out the nursery! LO has somewhere to sleep and we've got clothes and things sorted but the spare room is still a tip! Luckily she'll be in with us for the first six months!

UnaOfStormhold · 19/03/2018 13:17

Don't panic. Shops will still be open once the baby arrives and you will gradually work out what you need as you go along. I think we got the nursery ready about 8-9 months as he was in with us until then...

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 19/03/2018 14:20

38 weeks today and have everything ready since a few days ago.
I remember from dd1 how tiring the first few months are so wanted everything done!

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 19/03/2018 14:22

With ds, about six months after he was born.

This time, I'm mostly organised helped by the fact that I still have ds's stuff, have a better idea of what was important to me in hospital (nipple cream/comfortable clothes/something to do) and live in Scotland so getting a baby box. I'm 27 weeks atm.

nobutreally · 19/03/2018 14:23

I was 37 weeks by the time I was baby-ready for my first one. It's a shame he decided to arrive at 36 weeks, but it did mean we speeded up somewhat in the last week ;-) Honestly, nothing awful happened - we borrowed a moses basket, and otherwise, just bought what we needed as we went along - we didn't get the nursery painted until after he was born iirc....

happymummy12345 · 19/03/2018 14:25

We didn't get anything until the month before my due date. Even then it was just the essentials we needed for hospital and first night at home. We didn't want to know the sex until the birth, so we had the money put aside to get the rest after the baby had been born.
Also we had nothing in the house until after the baby was born, except what was needed for the hospital. The Pram and crib stayed at my mums. I'm very superstitious. I'd never ever set things up in advance, I don't like that idea. Also I hate the idea of a nursery, our baby was in our room until 16 months.

Cosmiccowgirl84 · 19/03/2018 14:50

Baby will be with us at first but I need nursery ready to keep baby’s stuff in and will do nappies, bath baby there.

I am 38+4. Baby has cot up but not made up, car seat, 0-1 month clothes, towels, bedding all washed and ready, a couple of packs of nappies, wipes and muslins. I plan to breast feed. What else do they need in the first few weeks really?

I have everything else I need but the big stuff is either in the loft or in boxes waiting for husband to sort. You can bath baby in any room, and as long as you have somewhere to store clothes and nappies, it'll all work out. There's plenty time!

BroomstickOfLove · 19/03/2018 15:02

I bought nappies while in early labour, and a pushchair when DC1 was three months old.

Pyjamaface · 19/03/2018 15:02

I wasnt. DS arrived at 32 weeks and I had clothes in bags all over the place. Cot, pram, car seat etc were being paid weekly and not due to arrive for another 6 weeks.

It was fine, I borrowed a moses basket. Arranged for the other big stuff to come ASAP and sorted the rest out slowly

37 with DC1, 40 with DC2.

Don’t panic, I think the longer you have to prepare the more unnecessary crap you buy. Give yourself something to do after the birth that doesn’t involve feed, sleep, change, repeat!

Chipsahoy · 19/03/2018 19:57

I'm almost 34 weeks and th e house is all organised, kitchen cupboards etc, all the stuff that doesn't need doing before baby arrives is done. The baby prep? Not so much.
But meh he's my third, he will share with us then a sibling, so no nursery. Nappy changes will be on the ottoman in our room at night and on the travel cot top changer downstairs in the day.
Clothes will be washed as needed. Homebirth so only doing an emergency hospital bag.
Breastfeeding so don't need any bottles.

Most things are in the attic and just need pulling out. I do need to but a car seat, but we have time. Amazon deliver in day, asda are open 24/7, it will be fine.

anotherchangetomyname · 19/03/2018 20:03

I'd bought everything and decorated the nursery by about 35 weeks but not actually sorted through it, just dumped everything in there. I went in to labour at 37 weeks, the day I started mat leave and ended up organising the nursery to take my mind off of the contractions!

Icklepickle101 · 19/03/2018 20:06

30 weeks with DS because it was as a very complicated pregnancy and I’d been off work for ages!

This time should be done around the same as it’s equally complicated and she will be early!

ForeverHopeful21 · 20/03/2018 08:44

I'm 37 weeks and bought most things over the past couple of weeks. We're still missing a couple of items that I'd like but nothing that couldn't wait until baby was here. Everything is still in boxes and the nursery is only just being painted and in need of new carpet and curtains, so definitely not finished!

The one thing I've had ready since 34 weeks has been my hospital bag ....just in case!!

KittyKK · 20/03/2018 08:46

With DC1 everything was ready and waiting by week 25.

For DC2, I’ve bought everything, but nothing is organised. 5.5 weeks to go whoops!! All of my energy is spent keeping DC1 entertained haha

MrsReacher85 · 20/03/2018 08:50

With my first, about 7-8 months pregnant. With my second, I think she was about 6 months old when we put the cot together.

Don't worry, if you've got nappies, clothes and somewhere to sleep then you're sorted.

PasstheStarmix · 20/03/2018 08:53

By about 8 months pregnant I felt I had all of the bits but did I feel ready for baby’s arrived heck no! He’s 1 now and I still don’t feel ready lol. Did i want baby arrival more than anything in the world, I was so ready for ds to be on the outside after 42 weeks of pregnancy!

PasstheStarmix · 20/03/2018 08:54

baby’s*

PasstheStarmix · 20/03/2018 08:55

Oh and after ds was born I still needed up buying more bits after thinking I had everything and realising some of the bits I had weren’t quite right and maybe needed some different things. It’s never ending.

PurpleTraitor · 20/03/2018 09:01

I hadn’t bought anything at all at 39+2 with my first which is when my mother in law snapped and turned up at my door with a Moses basket, a load of Johnson’s baby bath and associated stuff. I realised I would need some stuff for myself too, the day before my due date, I’d never really thought about buying anything for me until that point. So I was a bit last minute with it. I didn’t do a nursery for either baby until they were much bigger and out of my room. With the second that involved buying a whole new house.

Shutupanddance1 · 20/03/2018 09:09

First baby DD probably about 32 weeks which was that I had most things in the house (but not organized), which was good as I was placed on bed rest at 34 weeks and could do nothing. I live abroad so I had to buy things earlier when back in Europe as everything was half the price Confused
I didn’t however have any batch cooking I wanted to have done, shopping in etc and that still annoys me Grin

I’m currently 28 weeks with DD2 so basically this baby is getting all DD1 handmedowns and I’ve been throwing in a smaller packet of nappies in the shopping trolley every few weeks. Still haven’t found or ordered a car seat!

I do however have a small bag packed with essentials under the bed in case of emergency - I’m a prepper tho and I do better when I’m organized
