I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi foody I think it’s because I am still being sick and struggling to keep my thyroid meds down so they are hoping it will ease the sickness enough for me to keep down my thyroid meds. I’ve definitely got to try it but I’m always a bit nervous trying new medications

Aw12345 · 26/03/2018 19:10

@booandbumpp - I also cried a lot for a long time about the same thing- really want the baby but didn't feel I would survive the pregnancy. Don't beat yourself up about it, it's best to be honest about how you feel. Only advice I can offer is ticking off every day on a calendar (in a massive thick permanent marker!) to say that it's another day I survived! Feel like I've achieved something by doing that (sad I know!).

@Anatidae @LucindaE thanks so much for you advice, I know boss is really horrible and brings me down so much. Has no consideration for how unwell HG makes you feel. I'll take all your advice, will keep a record of what he says and when. Will get advice from Pregnancy Sickness SOS too. One thing is for sure- I am NEVER working for that bully again after my mat leave starts!!!

@StatisticallyChallenged - prochlorperazine didn't work for me either. Have you got the one that you dissolve in your mouth? The taste alone of that horrific thing could make anyone vomit!!! Hopefully the metoclopramide worked today for you :--)

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/03/2018 20:02

@aw12345 no, just the normal pills (although dear god, if you don't swallow fast enough...bleeeuuuuuurrrrrggghh!)

I hadn't had any of it all day (this morning's dose was very definitely ejected and tasted no better on the return trip!) so thought I'd try a dose to see if it would help me eat dinner but if anything it made me feel worse so I'm thinking that despite a promising start - I felt awesome for the first few days on it - that it's not the one for me.

Going to give the metaclopramide a few days and if I'm still vomiting daily it's back to the gp for me. I think because this is round two of HG I'm probably being a bit more pushy/demanding than I was last time.

Managed a small portion of dinner (beige food, of course) and have also had to start on the lactulose as NOTHING is moving. Nada. Zip. Sigh

Sorry haven't got time to read the whole thread as we have braved a few days away. Just checking in to say so pleased all ok on your scan hotchocolate. Really hope the steroids work for you, they are meant to be really effective. I think they usually wait until after the 1st trimester although the need for this is questionable.

hotchocolate86 · 26/03/2018 21:04

Thank you bored. I was so pleased to see the baby is ok. I hope the steroids help. I’ve taken my first one tonight and not feeling too bad but I’ll see what happens tomorrow. Enjoy your few days away Smile

Thanks so much Lucinda. I've found the Hyperemesis Threads to be such a comfort over the last three months and have found so much valuable info. I'm in NZ and treatment for hyperemesis really seems to depend on which GP/midwife you have. I don't have ketostix but getting fluids is not so difficult as my midwife has been happy to help me access that (we have the same midwife throughout pregnancy here). I've been fortunate in that my GP's daughter had hyperemesis and she'd done a lot of research into treatment and is treating me based on a US/Canadian treatment regime - with doxylamine and B6 along with the ondansetron etc
But my morning sickness cleared up by 16 weeks with my other pregnancies so I've been taken by surprise to still be so unwell at 20 weeks - I truly expected to be better by now! And I'm back at work (after being off for 7 weeks) so am struggling with the drowsiness caused by the medication - but am grateful that the medication actually allows me to function now.
I have one dose left and am frantically trying to get some more prescribed by Easter!
Sending my support, sympathy and solidarity to all of you - it is truly grim

TwoDrifters · 27/03/2018 10:52

Hi all! :: waves ::

I am tentatively checking back in after receiving my BFP this morning! But as some of you may remember, I miscarried at about 6 weeks last November so I’m not going to get too carried away just yet.

I have my preemptive cyclizine at the ready so once I’ve seen my GP I will start taking that, in the hopes of stopping HG before it has a chance to fully grab me.

Has anyone on this thread taken a low dose of aspirin to prevent miscarriage? I’m not sure whether I should be doing that or not…

Anyway, I’m sorry everyone is continuing to suffer. Solidarity to all x

Mustang27 · 27/03/2018 11:13

My friend did but she also has an extremely high bmi so I think there is a link with that too. I didn't enquire too much. I wonder if @Anatidae Knows anything about the correlation between aspirin and preventing miscarriage. Sorry if you don't Ana.

@TwoDrifters congrats on your BFP, hopefully you can relax, be well and without HG.

Anatidae · 27/03/2018 11:30

Low dose aspirin is something you should only take if prescribed during pregnancy.
There’s some data that shows it can reduce the risk of early miscarriage in some people but it’s not that solid a dataset.
After 12w it’s sometimes given to women at a higher risk of pre eclampsia.

It’s definitely not something one should self dose with - it does act as a blood thinner and can react with other medications so if your doctor has prescribed it they will have reviewed your history and medication to check it’s safe :)

Needles to say never take adult dose aspirin during pregnancy.

Anatidae · 27/03/2018 11:34

Two drifters

Unless it’s an issue with recurrent miscarriages and you’ve had just one MC at that stage, your chances are as good as anyone’s. 👍 good luck!

hotchocolate86 · 27/03/2018 11:49

Congratulations twodrifters and good luck.

emelsie · 27/03/2018 12:42

Had my doctors appointment today and she was great, did my blood pressure tested my urine and even phoned up the epu when I mentioned I had some brown stopping for last week .

Gave me a prescription of cyclizine and said I can take one up to three times a day, how many do you Think is best to start with and what time of day?

Also the prescription was only for 30 tablets so if I take the full 3 a day will run out of them in 10 days, is it normal practice to have to keep going back for more ?

Thanks!

Aw12345 · 27/03/2018 13:30

@emelsie I was only given 4 days of prochlorperazine the first time I went to Dr.... 4 days later I went back and asked for more, gave me a massive batch the 2nd time! Hope the cyclizine works :-)

Mustang27 · 27/03/2018 13:32

@hotchocolate86 so glad scan went well must be a huge relief.

hotchocolate86 · 27/03/2018 14:08

Thank you @Mustang27 Its a massive relief. The baby wasn’t cooperative and it took ages to get the measurements but we were so glad to see it wriggling away happily.

emelsie if the cyclizine works for you they’ll probably give you a bigger prescription next time although I’ve never been given more than 28 days. Start the cyclizine as soon as possible. I hope it works for you.

hotchocolate86 · 27/03/2018 14:16

lucinda could you add me to the due date list please? It’s 7th October.

bella1426 · 27/03/2018 14:23

Placemarking

TwoDrifters · 27/03/2018 16:43

Thanks all!

Sadly my BMI is also very high so that may be a factor. However, I won’t take any medication at all until after I’ve seen the GP, hopefully tomorrow.

Aw12345 · 27/03/2018 20:21

Anyone else have that flipping horrible taste in their mouth 24/7?! Not the vomit taste (We're all used to that!) but another random taste that is almost worse?!?!

Anatidae · 27/03/2018 20:48

Yes. Like stale smoke (I don’t smoke but that taste you used to get after a night in a smoky pub) plus metal plus a sort of fetid furry dehydrated taste?

RockinRobinn · 27/03/2018 21:03

I have that sort of metal taste they say you can get and often get an almost like oily taste/smell.
So disappointed was just sick after about 4 days of only nausea and a few dry heaves. Was hoping the cyclizine was putting a stop to the vomiting. It has been a busier day today though. Can't wait for my midwife appointment next Friday (16weeks). Hoping this sickness and tiredness doesn't last too much longer as now most people seem really miffed that I'm still so sick and tired which makes me feel like my body is just failing this pregnancy malarkey. Oh and I'm getting the well you'll free great at 20 weeks and then you'll start to feel huge and uncomfortable soon after... shut up people don't tell me this! Also the birth stories or the vague oh I don't want to scare you.
Sorry rant over I was only going to write about the food thing Confused hormones are taking over!

Mustang27 · 27/03/2018 21:04

Haha Ana you summed it up perfectly!! Bad news for me it lasted the whole time with both of my pregnancies.

I kept thinking I had a sinus infection or something first time round. Bleughhh I hope it's short lived for you all.

Good luck with the gp tomorrow two.

Hehe that's the spirit baby chocolate Grin. Not had a scan photo in awhile 😉

Mustang27 · 27/03/2018 21:10

@RockinRobinn my second labour was a tasting I'd do it again every day for 40 weeks if I it meant I'd never had to suffer hg. My first labour was also brilliant but I lost it and panicked a bit at the pushing stage as I felt nobody was listening to me. My advice go in with you I'm the boss hat on you will be amazing.

Oh and stab people in the eye that tell you you will be fine by 20 weeks!!! Honestly you might be but I don't think they realise how insensitive it sounds and how it leaves you feeling like a fraud when you are not. Also I get the failing body thing it's not though you are growing a baby as much as it just feels like a parasite.

Oh god and I'm still suffering Iv lost a st in 3 days it's taken me 3 months to lose a st since baby. This is one shit virus and it just feels like hg all over again.

Mustang27 · 27/03/2018 21:10

That's supposed to say *amazing not a tasting wtaf 😂😂

RockinRobinn · 27/03/2018 21:22

@Mustang27 that sounds so horrendous I hope it passes soon. That's a lot of weight to lose in such a short time, fingers crossed it is just a bug you've caught.
Thanks for your kind words they have made me feel a lot better (did nearly make me cry but everything does at the moment good or bad!)
