I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Well I've defo spoke too soon, managed the school run this morning but knew I was in for a bad day. Been sick 4 times in the last hour :-( taken some ondanestron so hopefully that might help. I just don't get me and hg, I can be fine for a week or so and then it just hits me again out of no where. I'm so grateful I'm out of the first few weeks as that's just constant hg. Gonna try have a nap now if I can x

nailsathome · 18/04/2018 18:27

I cleaned the kitchen today whoop whoop!

LucindaE · 18/04/2018 19:43

Bored and Foodylicious Much sympathy over Bile Runs.
Bored I hope it is a glitch. Try not to overdo it at work, says Mother Hen.
Bitzy Congratulations on scan results and boy, sorry,I forgot to say in the enthusiasm I share with Ohiwa Bored and others over Ranidtiine or Omprazole! Sorry that the nausea is back after a few days. I suppose part-time Hyperemesis is better than full time, but still...Wink
nails Congratulations on kitchen cleaning.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked...

seizethecuttlefish · 19/04/2018 12:43

Bitzy congrats on your baby boy. Team blue here too. Glad your heartburn is easing. It's brutal and when mines bad, my hg usually follows it. Hope your nap helped. Most of this pregnancy, napping has been my survival mechanism.
Foody hope you're feeling better. The thing about hg is it's not sodding consistent. You have a good day and it's whoopee and then you can be bed bound for ages.
Bored I found I had a few really bad days from 20w-24w. Just really random "oh my god I'm back at the beginning" days. Have to report that weeks 26 -30 we're bliss. I thought I'd made it through. But had a bit of a relapse at 31 and been in and out of it ever since.
Nails well done cleaning your kitchen. Can you make it to Scotland to do mine Wink
Been a good day or 2. Baby box arrived. 5yr old is epically excited about that. Mw appt. 36w4 and no preeclampsia! This time last pregnancy I was on visits to the hospital for monitoring every second day. I'm tired and grumpy but I'm nearing the end. I just need to figure out where I'm getting time to do the nursery and start getting stuff put away....
Hugs to all Thanks

bitzy12 · 19/04/2018 16:21

Thank you for the congrats everyone - on another note, it's too hot!!!! I'm never one to complain about the weather but....yeah it's too hot

LucindaE · 19/04/2018 17:24

bitzy Much sympathy for you and any suffering in the heat.
Seize Mother Hen wishes to be bossy and say: Please do not do the nursery when you are still ill . The baby won't look about the nursery, and say, 'This falls far short of what I was expecting.' WinkSomeone else can do the nursery.

seizethecuttlefish really pleased no preeclampsia this time and you're almost through it all! So exciting! Did the preeclampsia make you feel worse last time?

I've had a good 3 days, can't believe it! Haven't cried at all in that time!!

Boredoftryingusernames · 19/04/2018 21:08

We'll work was actually ok! Nauseous as always but no vomiting today. They had kept things pretty quiet for me, and only had to work the morning so successful first day back.

Aw really pleased you've had a better few days Smile
Seize pleased your midwife check was all good, almost there now! Thanks for the advice re relapse timings, hope I at least get the good spell soon.

Hope people haved felt up to enjoying a little sunshine, though is too hot for me really!

seizethecuttlefish · 19/04/2018 21:34

My preeclampsia was strange. No symptoms at all. Went for my normal mw check at 36 weeks and all hell broke lose. My blood pressure had gone through the roof. I felt so sorry for the poor student. All she had to do was take my blood pressure and she said to the mw, I think I'm doing something wrong. Cue panic, hospital monitoring and the meds that made me feel lousy. Was induced 2 weeks later.
Bored well done on being back at work. I've not achieved that!
Aw love the good days. You feel like superwoman!

LucindaE · 20/04/2018 11:52

seize That sounds alarming! Glad you haven't got that this time. I think the worry is, that it comes on symptom free. I hope you saw Mother Hen's bossy message about the nursery?
I hope people aren't suffering too much in this sudden heat. Cold is much preferable, and we've gone from that to full summer here in the UK these past few days (I know there are some on this thread abroad; not sure what the weather's like over in Europe; hot too, I expect).

OP posts:
LucindaE · 20/04/2018 11:53

Ah, and bored Mother Hen is glad work wasn't too difficult but don't try and do too much!

bit of advice needed.
I know I have already moaned about being really big and my stomach feeling sore and too stretched already.
But it's now not sore, but I have a cough and every time I cough (or wretch) I can feel what's almost a protrusion just above my belly button.
Is it just that the muscles have really separated already, or maybe something I need to worry about?
Anyone else have This?
Could it be a small hernia?

LucindaE · 20/04/2018 20:10

Foodylicious Sorry about concern. To be honest,I never heard of pregnant women getting hernias (however enormous one feels), but I'm not medically qualfied. It is surely more likely that those muscles have separated? I hope you get reassurance from somebody who has a better idea asap.

OP posts:
Boredoftryingusernames · 20/04/2018 21:01

Thank you mother hen! They had mercifully kept consults very quiet this morning, and I just had some training this afternoon so not too taxing. Pretty exhausted now, but no more work until next Thursday anyway.

Foody I'm not sure sorry, my muscles didn't separate last time so not sure what it would feel like. It does sound like a hernia if it is more pronounced with increased abdominal pressure - the retching and coughing. I would personally try and get it checked out to be more sure. Sorry you have another thing to worry about, as if the sickness wasn't enough!

Aw12345 · 20/04/2018 21:41

bored really pleased you've had a good reintroduction to work. Not too many consults or anything (nothing worse than needing to leave a consult to vom). Hope you have a good rest over the weekend.

Foody sounds horrible:-( hope it's nothing to worry about and that you're not too uncomfortable with it :-(

Bitsy yes much sympathy about overheating! Same here!!

Gemsie1984 · 21/04/2018 09:39

Wondering if I can join? Not sure if I have HM but I feel like crap..
Started feeling just nauseous last week, lasting an hour or so.. completely manageable. Last three days the nausea is constant from 2pm, have zero appetite, cooking smells make me feel sick and I'm vomiting 4-6 times a day. I'm really miserable. I'm only 7+2 so it's early days but I don't know what to do!

Boredoftryingusernames · 21/04/2018 10:15

Gemsie of course you can join (the club nobody wants to be in!). It's truly miserable feeling and being so sick. If you look back over previous pages Lucinda whose thread it is frequently lists foods and drinks that people have found easier to manage, and advice on monitoring yourself for dehydration. I'm sure she will check in at some point today and post again for you. The first page also has some links for helpful websites - I found the charity Pregnancy Sickness Support really helpful, both over the phone, and their information on medication. My advice would be that (providing you are keeping bits down over the weekend - otherwise you need more urgent treatment) you see your GP on Monday to get some anti-sickness medication, reading as much as you can before will not only reassure you they are safe and necessary, but make it easier to push if the Dr is reluctant to prescribe. It's also really hard to advocate for yourself when feeling so awful, so ideally take someone with you to the appointment.
Keep us updated and good luck.

Boredoftryingusernames · 21/04/2018 10:16

Thanks Aw, yes big relief, though tired and feeling very sicky today. Also nothing overly smelly to deal with which was a relief!!

LucindaE · 21/04/2018 10:51

Gemsie Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. You have had great advice from bored already. When reporting the amount of vomiting, do remember that dr's tend to count each heave as a vomit - while I'm assuming you mean that many episodes a day? Hopefully he will prescribe meds, as bored says. Do invest in some kestostix from a chemists to check for the early stages of dehydration. On the liquids and foods that have helped others: flat, full sugar coke, ice lollies the juice of tinned fruit,, ice cubes, soda water, Elderflower Water, Lucozade, Robinsons fruit drinks, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya) fizzy orange, lemonade, for some orange juice and Dr Pepper. Generally very sweet, you will note, and sweet or salty does seem to be the thing that helps. For foods - of a sort - tinned fruit, cheap ice cream, nibbles of crisps and chips, cornflakes, Scotch pankakes, cuppa soup and jelly. Some swear by biscuits.
If the Dr is awkward about meds, try phoning Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020. They will have to phone back, but they will with good advice.
bored That is good! From what I hear from DD, it's a job very hard to do with a bad stomach.

Just want to say thanks so much! It's nice to know that I'm not alone. It can feel very isolating when I'm feeling nauseous and vomiting and my family look at me and try and help but they don't really understand. I only ever had nausea with my other two pregnancies and even then it was mostly food aversions that triggered it; whereas now it's smells that can make me vomit too. The bin is a big one! I try and put mind over matter when it comes to being sick and remove myself from the trigger as once I start vomiting it's like a switch and it can go on. I've been craving fruit a lot, which is good as I've lost 6lb already. I had padding when I fell pregnant though so I'm not overly concerned with this.. I'll order some ketostix from amazon..

TwoDrifters · 21/04/2018 16:05

May I just say a HUGE thank you to whichever PP mentioned rhubarb & custard boiled sweets?! Lucinda was it you?

I am on my second as we speak and it’s the first time in days that “that” awful taste has gone from my mouth. Bless you, whoever you were! Flowers

lynzpynz · 21/04/2018 17:03

Hello fellow HG sufferers nice to know I’m not alone, i’m 20 wks gone (half way thank lord) and already swearing this child will be an only child lol!

Spent 3 of the last 4 weeks off work as whilst I was ‘managing’ the nausea and vomiting was operating at max capacity really (I travel every week with work planes/trains/hire cars) and after being sick 8 times before lunch on mon, was diagnosed with HG, sinus/chest infection and severe sinus headache. Luckily my doc gave me another anti sickness injection and a sick line, they’ve been really kind and helpful. Enjoying when I get good days but it doesn’t half wear you down when you have a succession of bad ones! Back to work on Monday for me fingers crossed...

Hope everyone else is having a good day today and able to enjoy some of the rare nice weather!

seizethecuttlefish · 21/04/2018 18:28

Hi all and especially Mother Hen Wink I'm taking it easy. Hubby has been amazing and I only have 18 days till my section. Not too bad, never thought I'd get this far. I'm tired, nauseous and grumpy but I'm still hanging on! My work have offered me a good redundancy package so I'm NEVER going back. Partially excited and partially panicking. I've never not worked. But it was a great package and if this pregnancy has taught me anything, it's that my work really doesn't give a toss. It's better to be happy than living in dread.
In other news, every time I get up for a pee, hubby thinks baby is coming. I have pointed out that he'll know when I'm in labour lol.
Hugs to everyone starting out on the journey and as bored says, joining the club no one wants to be a member of. This is HG baby number 2. No, I just don't learn! But we are done after this.
Gemsie welcome and you're amongst friends. This lot are a great bunch!
To everyone suffering, big virtual hugs and you have my permission (tell them seize said) to slap anyone who mentions ginger. Grin

Foodylicious · 21/04/2018 18:44

Ah seizethecuttlefish I have had two mentions of ginger this week.
I laughed and swore at both of them.
Then swore a little more and asked did they think I would be on medication if a couple if fucking biscuits would sort it??? GrinGrin
I did manage to keep it light and not get all preggo ragey at them. If they had caught me on a different day however...

Boredoftryingusernames · 21/04/2018 19:18

Seize I got gingered within 10mins of going back to work. If only someone had mentioned ginger biscuits earlier I could have avoided having 3 months off Hmm!
