I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Rocking that's awful of your boss to do that. I'm glad you got out but sorry it was exhausting.

Exciting stuff for those at the top of the list. I'll be so glad when I'm there!

BergamotMouse · 14/04/2018 11:10

Sorry to hear you're suffering lissi. I'm currently on ondansetron, prescribed by the doctor and they were reluctant but phoned up the hospital to check. It's making me feel better but she phoned me after giving the short course prescription to say I can only take it for 5 days then I need to come off it. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? The prospect worries me immensely.

That sounds completely unprofessional RockinRobin. I'd definitely ask them to take the post down!!

Hotchocolate86 · 14/04/2018 11:21

Hi lissi. I am on ondansetron but I can only get it from my hospital. My local gp is in a different county to the hospital I’ve chosen to go to and the gps have it on a red list meaning they are not allowed to prescribe it. I’ve had some trouble as my hospital think they should be able to. If you google you should be able to find some information on the prescribing guidelines in your local area.

Boredoftryingusernames · 14/04/2018 11:36

Bergamot that sounds ridiculous! How many weeks are you now?

BergamotMouse · 14/04/2018 11:58

I'm about 9 weeks bored. They've only prescribed me 2 x 4mg tablets a day and I usually start vomiting before my next dose so don't know how it's going to go. She was clearly nervous prescribing it in the first place but I'm also wondering if it's a cost thing.

LucindaE · 14/04/2018 12:06

Hello, everyone, I have to go out, commiserations to RockinRobin - he must take down that Facebook post - and to welcome Lissi. I am sorry you have come up against one of these rules. I think the best thing to do is phone Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020. They will have to phone back, but they will, with great advice. They have helped a lot of people on here get meds as the meds offered vary according to aera and bureuacratic rules.

Boredoftryingusernames · 14/04/2018 12:12

Can you see a different GP at your practice Bergamot, unfortunately at 9 weeks I think you have a while to go before symptoms improve, and really sounds like you need to be on them 3 times a day too.....Maybe give Pregnancy Sickness Support a call too after the weekend as suggested above fire Lissi.
I was on 8mg three times a day for a few weeks, and now at almost 20 weeks am on 4mg twice daily, but was really sick after missing a dose the other night so definitely still needing them.
Hope you can sort it out. The only Ned I have heard ideally should be a short course for the sickness is metoclopramide (and that's to avoid mother side effects, not baby), and several people on this thread have had that one longer-term with no issues anyway.
Good luck with it, seems incredibly cruel to give you a medication that helps, then take it away!!

LucindaE · 14/04/2018 19:14

RockinRobin Sorrry - that should be 'She'. Awkward and annoying, that.
Lissi Welcome. You certainly are a veteran and brave to go for it again. Apart from the please ring Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020 for advice about obtaining meds when GP's are relucant to prescribe, and, did you find an anti acid helped on the last two times (besides the Zofran? I can only say that I am very sorry to hear that you were reduced to tears in the doctors surgery and they weren't helpful.
BergamotMouse I am puzzled about why they insist on prescribing only five days worth of Ondansetron and can only suggest - I seem to be doing this a lot today - that you ring Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020 for advice on how to get more prescribed.
hotchocolate bored nails and AW12345 and everyone, I hope you aren't doing too badly today. AW12345 I am glad Gaviscon is helping you. I used to gulp a lot down too, but I found it could lead to terrible Pink Foam Puking Episodes. I hope you have avoided those.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked. Watch me cross post.

Bored Sorry, I missed you out. I hope you are over the relapse?

OP posts:
Hotchocolate86 · 14/04/2018 19:26

How’s everyone feeling today? I have had a pretty good day today but done myself in cleaning my very small kitchen. Everything knocks me for six at the moment but I am very glad to not be vomiting all the time at least.

booandbumpp · 14/04/2018 19:47

@Hotchocolate86 sorry cleaning has knocked you back. I felt ok this am so took the dogs out for a walk then hoovered. And did the same! No vomiting (touch wood) but I feel horrid!!

Hotchocolate86 · 14/04/2018 20:12

It’s so easy to overdo it when you feel a little better. I hope you feel better tomorrow booandbumpp.

Aw12345 · 14/04/2018 20:52

Hi Lissi, sorry to hear about your HG... Horrible thing it is! This group is such a help though :-)

booandbumpp sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish again :-( it's so easy to over do it because you're just so happy to feel remotely human again. Hope rest makes you feel better quickly.

BergamotMouse hope they will prescribe you a proper amount of ondansetron soon, its crazy to think they wouldn't as it must save so much money in hospital admissions for HG.

Boredoftryingusernames · 14/04/2018 21:07

Feeling crappy today too, definitely think this is a relapse now as had on the whole been much better. Not actually been sick properly but keep regurgitating little bits (lovely!), and feel knackered. The horrid mouth taste had subsided recently but is firmly back the last few days. Yuck! Hoping it passes again soon??

Foodylicious · 14/04/2018 21:33

Hotchocolate86 feeling better on the whole here.
Much less nausea and exhaustion generally this week, though still pretty tired.
And I have been sick once or twice a day this week but mostly because it's caught me off guard I think.

I am sooo bloated though I am HUGE
And it's really painful, like the muscles and skin are being stretched too much already.

bored and boo sorry you are feeling so pants.

seizethecuttlefish · 15/04/2018 11:10

I've been up since 3am throwing up. I now have a d&v bug. Will this never end? Just had to have a moan. I thought it was my hg back but it's a bug (so at least that's something).

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/04/2018 11:16

Oh you poor bugger! Hope it doesn't last too long

Lissi82 · 15/04/2018 13:36

Thank you so much! I can not even tell you how much that reassured me ❤️ Can’t say I am excited for Ondansetron side effects (thought I was going to die from constipation the first time around) but knowing that it is here is such a relief and I am definitely calling PSS. I am having a slightly better day, have not thrown up yet! and nausea is OK as long as I am flat... so glad I found this group 🙏

LucindaE · 15/04/2018 13:55

LissiI am glad you feel reassured. I''m assuming you tried lactulose last time - but not sure what they'd call it abroad - or maybe those jelly suppositiories from Boots or wherever, but annoyingly, someone none pregnant has to get them, though they use them in hospital for pregnant women? Those who can retain Fybergel deseve a medal. Some say the tinned fruit and its juice I always recommend along with the flat full sugar coke and other such healthy things acts as a laxative.
hotchocloate and booandbump Walks, and kitchen cleaning, you ambitious things? I hope you feel a lot better after the relapses, and bored too. bored It may be that dreaded twenty week hormonal surge. Did you say you were twenty weeks? My head seems to be full of cotton wool today.
Seize Oh no! You poor thing.
Foodylicious Sympathy on aches. Mr ribs used to ache terribly as they expanded.
StatisticallyChalanged How are things? AW, Nails and everone?

OP posts:
booandbumpp · 15/04/2018 14:05

@LucindaE I need to cool it with the walks they knock me out for the rest of the day!
I need to get geared up for going back to work tomorrow which I am nervous that will cause a relapse! Also got to convince the GP on Tuesday to give me another prescription! Got it from the hospital last time so I have no idea how the GP will be!

Foodylicious · 15/04/2018 14:28

So something strange happened today.
I ironed.
I don't iron apart from once or twice a year probably.

Did all LOs clothes and some of mine.
Was oddly satisfying.

But I over did it. Should have stopped about 40 minutes before I did.

Got really hot, tired and felt horribly sick for a while. My back was really sore too (though that's not knew and partly why I don't to static chores like ironing and washing up).

Was better after some tea and a banana.

Foodylicious · 15/04/2018 14:29

Not *new,
Not, not knew

Boredoftryingusernames · 15/04/2018 16:40

Lucinda I am just short of 20 weeks now, feeling a bit better today after going to bed really early last night.
Foody glad you have been feeling a bit better on the whole HG wise, hope you haven't over done it with the ironing!
Boo good luck at work tomorrow.
Lissi yes I thought the ondansetron constipation might kill me too! Second Lucinda's lactulose advice!
Seize you poor thing, hope it passes very quickly for you.
Hoping everyone is having a reasonable (or even good?!) day.

nailsathome · 15/04/2018 16:55

I also overdid it yesterday and feel awful today. I'm having really strong Braxton Hicks too which aren't helping!

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/04/2018 19:12

Oh dear got the Ondansetron constipation is hellish! I'd second the recommendation for the boots suppositories - the lactulose doesn't seem to do much except give me horrendous cramps! They're on the shelf in my local boots so no "are you pregnant" quizzing

I'm not doing too badly Lucinda, the Ondansetron has helped a lot and definitely has less side effects than the previous cocktail. Managed to get back to work for a couple of half days which really tired me out but better than doing nothing as I was getting very fed up of being stuck at home. Still getting nausea so I'm certain the hyperemesis is still there and hasn't buggered off yet. I'm 13+4 today - time does not fly when you're hyperemetic!!
