Hospital changing scan date at last minute. So annoyed!

Just need to rant about this as I think it's utterly unacceptable on part of hospital.

I was supposed to have my 12 week scan on Monday. I've had a text from hospital saying it's been changed to Tuesday! DH had gotten time off to come with me, but now it's been changed he probably won't be able to be there as it's so short notice.

I'm going to have to go alone, ill with hyperemesis and already worried as I'm no bigger than I was 12 weeks ago. I had a private scan at 7 weeks (ivf pregnancy) that showed twins, so I don't know where they are hiding.

I know the NHS is in total crisis, but I really think changing such important appointments at such short notice is a disgrace. Feeling very upset right now.

They won't have done it unless it was absolutely necessary, I get how disappointing it is though.

BubbleAndSquark · 16/03/2018 13:00

With your concerns and the mention of it being possibly twins I would make sure DP is there, if you've been diagnosed with hyperemesis already then I assume you've been hospitalised already, just get DP to explain this and say it is unsafe for you to drive, and you are unable to get a bus as you aren't allowed on carrying a sick bowl.

I would try phoning the hospital first just in case they can do anything about it and ask if they could slot you in at the end on Monday.

isthismummy · 16/03/2018 13:16

I called hospital Bubble but there's nothing they can do. Issues with sonographer availability apparently.

I was in hospital yesterday and feeling in no mood for this shite. Feel like this is a real "I'm fuming babes" type post, but I'm so upset.

Luckily I'm no stranger to the washing up bowl (or plastic carrier bag) on the bus/taxi these days.

SpringHen · 16/03/2018 13:19

If there are no sonographers Im not sure what you want the hospital to do?

Surely better to be cancelled than to go and not get seen.

People get sick/bereaved etc at short notice.

isthismummy · 16/03/2018 13:23

Yes I appreciate that SpringHen

I also appreciate that this is my first lasting pregnancy after infertility, miscarriages and a lot of money and heartache spent to get here. So please forgive me for being upset at having to go alone when I'm extremely anxious, ill and worried about the pregnancy!

My dad is in a wheelchair due to a deteriorating condition. He has been waiting for surgery for a year now. It's just been cancelled AGAIN. I know it's tough I do but it's unavoidable.

Has your DH asked for the time?

Sirzy · 16/03/2018 13:25

As annoying as it is it has been pushed back a day, not weeks. Shit happens and sometimes hospitals can’t control these things.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 16/03/2018 13:26

They've done it because they had to, because they're trying to keep the wheels on an overstretched and underresourced department and somehow provide both urgent and routine care. And they've only pushed it back a day.

I get that it's frustrating and upsetting, but if you really feel you need your DP's support then surely he needs to rearrange things to be there - talk to his boss, arrange leave, cancel clients, whatever.

Ubercornsdiscoball · 16/03/2018 13:27

You don’t know for sure yet that your husband can’t go with you. If he can’t, is there someone else that can go to be with you?

Applesandpears23 · 16/03/2018 13:33

How frustrating. I staggered down the road to a hospital appointment once throwing up every 10 feet so I can understand how grim it is. Is there anyone else who can go with you?

isthismummy · 16/03/2018 13:40

Nobody else to go with me unfortunately Apples

ShowofHands I'm sorry about your dad.

Believe you me I have every sympathy for the NHS and every awareness of how they are struggling. I spent my afternoon on a drip in a waiting room yesterday because there were no cubicles. The work the staff were doing with so few resources and so overstretched was incredible. It makes me sick to see what this shitty government is doing to our NHS.

I'm just very upset at having to go alone to a scan I'm really worried about. I've had bad news about babies alone in hospitals before and it is horrendous. DH can't get time off. He works shifts and his manager won't swop at such short notice.

OP posts:
SpringHen · 16/03/2018 13:59

Its totally understandable to be upset

But not call them a disgrace for working with what they have.

Even in a high risk pregnancy a routine scan is still a routine scan and on skeleton staff they have to focus on the emergencies x

SpringHen · 16/03/2018 14:08

Can you change the rescheduled scan to your DHs day off?

BubbleAndSquark · 16/03/2018 14:16

Really feel for you especially with the history you've said about 🙁 has DP tried offering to work 2 shifts for someone else if anyone is able to cover his Tuesday shift?
Hopefully the hyperemesis continuing is a sign that everything is well hormone wise too.

rosieposies · 16/03/2018 14:29

Flowers that sounds so frustrating @op, is there a possibility that you could go for another private scan?

MaverickSnoopy · 16/03/2018 16:39

Actually his employer can't say no www.gov.uk/paternity-pay-leave/leave

Yes it's short notice but what about people who have to have emergency last minute scans. He can only go to 2 scans though.

I suggest that he goes back to his manager and explains the situation reminding them of their statutory obligation (gently).

LucyLou19 · 16/03/2018 18:39

Your on is entitled to the time of,short notice or not!xxx

ChardonnaySocialist · 16/03/2018 18:42

It is so shit that the NHS is having to attempt to function with so few resources. Is your dh off this weekend? Any chance of going for a private scan so that you have reassurance that things will be OK on Tuesday?

isthismummy · 16/03/2018 19:34

DH employers don't have it in their shorty outdated policy, so despite DH telling them
It's the law they aren't listening.

We really can't afford a private scan atm. I'm just going to have to go on my ownSad

OP posts:
isthismummy · 16/03/2018 19:35

Shitty, outdated policy that should say. I'm too annoyed to type properly.

OP posts:
bathandpjs · 16/03/2018 19:42

I believe the law regarding time off for appointments trumps your DH company policy - I may be wrong though

I completely understand your feelings, aside from your medical issues, it's just a shame your DH can't be there when you first see your babies.

If I were in your position I would (well get DH) to) clearly explain to his employers that he has the right to go to the scan. Failing that (as you may not want to rock the boat so much) I would reschedule to a date which DH could make. Is it possible to change the times so his work is less disruptive?

isthismummy · 16/03/2018 19:50

He's explained it to them bath They honestly don't care. Just said it's not company policy.

I'm just going to go alone on Tuesday. I'm already very worried something isn't right with this pregnancy and I don't want to delay it any longer,

Thank you for all your helpful comments. You're all very kindSmile

OP posts:
isthismummy · 16/03/2018 19:52

I had a scan at 7 weeks so luckily DH has already seen babies. Not that I can look at the photos as they're a massive nausea trigger for me. So weird.

bathandpjs · 16/03/2018 20:50

I would check that the rules regarding leave for antenatal appointment don't over rule company policy as it doesn't seem right to me

bathandpjs · 16/03/2018 20:51

I would check that the rules regarding leave for antenatal appointment don't over rule company policy as it doesn't seem right to me.

Gov.uk says mothers and fathers have the right to paid time off for appointments so the company can't just overrule it. Next they will be wanting to overrule the minimum wage right www.gov.uk/working-when-pregnant-your-rights
