Not Sleeping

Every. Little. Thing. wakes me up.

Last night I finally slept at 11pm, woke as 2.15am until 5.30am, then slept though 5 snooze cycles on my alarm and finally got up at 8.00am.

I’m exhausted. I need sleep. Any hints or tips?

Well what's keeping you up and how far along are you?

Early on insomnia is pretty common but wears off.

Later it's all the aches and pains and weeing. Pregnancy pillows and positions can help.

laura1306 · 07/03/2018 15:30

I'm the same now and I've been trying everything I can this week and only woke up once last night for a while. I've started to realise if I don't drink for an hour before bed but wee before getting into bed I can last a bit longer, although I never really have needed to get up to use the bathroom in the night this pregnancy. I think my body gets a bit numb to what it feels at night and when I'm tired so it might be a full bladder or baby kicking you awake or some sort of pain or discomfort from the way you're lying in bed that you've become a bit numb to. Try to wedge yourself in a bit with cushions and things in a position that's comfortable enough to fall asleep, that way if you can't really move then you might not wake up!

Thank you. I’ve googled early pregnancy insomnia and that has given me some information. I’m exhausted, I should just pass out for a week but I lie wide awake, saucer eyes.

Needing to wee might be what woke me last night, I’ll stop drinking now and wee just before I go to bed and see if it helps.

a nice fat glass of Sauvignon Blanc would help

Not much advice I'm afraid except to say that I remember this, and found it really hard Sad I seem to remember it got better once I went on maternity leave so wonder whether it could have been stress related - having a baby is a big life change even without work pressure on top. Fingers crossed it gets better and you get some sleep soon Thanks

NotTakenUsername · 07/03/2018 19:12

Thank you. Sometimes just a bit of understanding and knowing you’re not alone really does help. Smile

I'm exactly the same and have been for weeks now. If it helps I'd recommend listening to audiobooks (if you can stretch to an audible subscription) so at least you're entertained whilst wide awake.
Hope it passes soon for you!

NotTakenUsername · 07/03/2018 19:23

Fannythrobbing (you’re username! Grin) that’s a brilliant idea and I think I will. Dh would buy me the world at the moment to ease some of this discomfort, so he’ll be happy to sort that out for me.

I'm nearly 8 weeks and have insomnia on and off. Weeing is now waking me up as well! I'm just hoping it will go soon. I feel your pain though, I'm usually awake most of the night then wide awake at 5 😔

My dp has been away with work but he'll be back snoring tonight as well!!

ThorsMistress · 07/03/2018 19:36

I’m in the exact same boat Sad I’m 11+3 now and I am finding I’m not waking so much as I was, but I’ve gone from being a deep sleeper to waking at the sound of a pin drop!

KittyKK · 07/03/2018 19:37

Mother Nature is cruel!! Frequent wake ups every night from week 28 onwards (leg cramps, sore back, acid reflux, multiple toilet trips).

For DC1, I ended up with a csec and the 24 hours afterwards of lying flat on my back with a catheter was fabulous haha

jubbablub · 07/03/2018 19:40

11+5. Woke up at 4 night before last and then at 5 last night. I don’t know how I’m safe to drive of capable of doing my job at the moment.

MeadowHay · 07/03/2018 19:49

Unfortunately mine is at its worst now so far and I'm 25 weeks! I have lost all hope of it improving, it's awful Sad.

somersetsoul · 07/03/2018 19:52

I could sleep for hours in the day though! Why is it just at night?!

NotTakenUsername · 07/03/2018 19:54

I can’t sleep in the day either. I had a window (in my own home, in private) between a course and starting work, set my alarm and... nothing. Not so much as a ten minutes doze. At least I rested my body.

30 weeks and suffering here! Lucky if I get 3 solid hours a night.
Mama. Is. Exhausted 😭

TheCatsMother44 · 07/03/2018 21:01

Early on I found I slept terribly and put it down to surging hormones and my mind working on overdrive just at the thought of being pregnant.

Now, currently overdue, I can't sleep as I'm so uncomfortable. I wish I had enjoyed the better sleep more when I did get it in the second trimester.

Mybabystolemysanity · 07/03/2018 21:08

I've found my people!

Went to bed at 10 last night, got up six times between 10 and 3 am, then DD woke up at 5. Wouldn't settle in our bed, so DH dumped her in front of the TV and came back to bed. So I had to get up. There was no way I was going to leave her. I told him I'd not slept again. This has been going on for months. Doctor prescribed Phenergan but can't function the next day if I take it. Horrible, horrible nightmares nightly and now think I may have spd. I don't think I can handle much more (19 weeks left to go). I have never been as close to divorce as I am today.

Winterfellismyhome · 07/03/2018 21:10

23 weeks and wake up and fidget constantly Sad

Chocness · 07/03/2018 21:33

25 weeks here and the insomnia has been shocking. I’m exhausted but just can’t sleep at night and when I d finally get off I’m awake again a couple of hours later. I keep reminding myself that at least these sleepless nights are good training for having a newborn but it’s starting to take its toll now. Had it since 4 weeks pregnant and there’s been little let up.

JennyBlueWren · 07/03/2018 21:36

37 weeks and I just can't get comfy! I only get indigestion at night (which is much better than previous pregnancy), my arms get really itchy and bump is too big! Also baby seems to be a night time party animal! Oh and if the cat realises I'm awake she wants attention.

DH moved out last month.

Thank goodness I've only 2 days left of work!

MeadowHay · 07/03/2018 21:39

Jenny I seem to be getting really itchy in bed suddenly as well the last few weeks, mostly on my arms and shoulders. I have eczema normally anyway but I have noticed that I just suddenly get extra itchy when I'm in bed Confused. Is there a reason for this do you know? It's horrible, I drive myself mad trying not to scratch and my skin is suffering.

Shanners123 · 07/03/2018 22:49

I feel your pain! 35 weeks and I've had insomnia throughout my entire pregnancy. I'm not a napper either. I have basically become accustomed to surviving on a few hours sleep each night. I go to bed between 9-11pm, and then will be up multiple times to pee which eventually wakes my brain up around 2am or 3am for a few hours. I can sometimes doze for an hour or so after 6am but it's terrible quality sleep. No solutions I'm afraid, midwives have never been very interested and told me my pregnancy yoga was the best solution (hasn't improved sleep any!) For the little sleep I do get I have to say I feel okay, and can operate normally - I just yawn all the time!!

NotTakenUsername · 08/03/2018 12:59

I slept ALL night last night. When my alarm woke me I was shocked!

I think the no drinking in the evening really helped.

somersetsoul · 08/03/2018 19:28

What??? I don't think I slept at all! I'm testing your theory and not drinking anything else now...

NotTakenUsername · 08/03/2018 20:12

I know, I debated posting in case I sounded smug. Blush Let’s see if it works twice in a row...
