I have felt sick since about I was about 4 weeks pregnant. Before I even did a pregnancy test. Since hitting 6 weeks I feel absolutely dreadful. The nausea is overwhelming and constant. If I move I have to dash to the toilet thinking I am going to be sick. I can’t face drinking anything. Eating is a struggle. My lips are all cracked and dry and I’m absolutely exhausted. I’ve no idea how I will manage work.

You've got to eat and drink, I found it mildly better if I never got hungry so little and often. Have a bottle and keep sipping.

Get to the doctors, I left it as long as possible and had to fight to not be hospitalised. There are good drugs that help

CRZ1988 · 15/02/2018 09:37

I'm 6+4 and am really struggling with nausea and cramps. I feel like I'm going to end up having diarrhea as that's what the cramps feel like (Sorry TMI) I've thrown up in work today, luckily made it to the bathroom.

I'm not as bad as you in that I can move about but the combination of the two and also not sleeping for the cramps is seriously wearing me down. I've got a doctors appt this afternoon so I'll mention it then.

hotchocolate86 · 15/02/2018 10:08

It’s really awful isn’t it? With my last pregnancy I had hyperemesis. I’m so hoping this doesn’t develop into that but it doesn’t feel good right now.

I'm just fed up. I'm getting a cold too so my throat is already sore, add vomiting on top of it. V fed up.

Sat with my head in my hands at my desk at work. I'm shattered and fed up. Oh well, hopefully it'll pass soon......

hotchocolate86 · 15/02/2018 11:07

Awww I hope you feel better soon. Fingers crossed.

I hope you all feel better soon. I am 9w today and have had similar nausea/vomiting/exhaustion/not eating drinking since 5/6w. Last week was a really bad week, but seem to be over the worst of it and feeling a lot better this week. Still not managing to eat/drink loads but have found eating every couple of hours really helps, even if I really don’t feel like it. 💐💐

SLR1906 · 15/02/2018 18:38

So glad i found this thread. Im 6.5weeks and feel dreadful. Im tired, achy, nauseous, avoiding food and drink and ive developed a cold. I came home from work early yesterday and couldnt face it today, I am so worried about how im going to cope in the next few weeks at work!! Ive been eating toast and crackers and sipping water cause i know i need to try but im really struggling!! My work dont know yet either which makes it harder Sad

Potteryprincess30 · 15/02/2018 18:42

@hotchocolate86 it's the most horrible feeling ever, literally like your dying. Absolutely the pits, I am sending a lot of sympathy vibes your way. Had it myself, felt like I was on a ship, sea sick, and food poisoning at the same time, with that head too Sad oh lord the headaches that go with it!

One day at a time, each hour at a time. It's the way to progress, you will make it through, it will get better I promise but not for a couple of weeks. Stay strong op Flowers

MotherofPearl · 15/02/2018 18:45

OP and all the rest of you need to join the wonderful hyperemesis support thread that has been run on here by the lovely LucindaE for years. It was a godsend to me through two HG pregnancies. Even if you haven't got HG as such it's a great place for support and advice about pregnancy sickness generally. You don't have to have an official HG diagnosis to feel - and be - horrendously sick in pregnancy.

It is the absolute and utter pits - you all have my sympathy. Thanks

Anatidae · 15/02/2018 18:45

It’s utterly hideous isn’t it?

I see you’ve found us on the hyperemesis board - anyone else suffering please do come over. It’s a lovely helpful supportive thread. Helped me no end during my first pregnancy and now is just as lovely while I’m expecting my second.

crackerjacket · 15/02/2018 18:46

There's a HG thread on here - maybe post for advice?

hotchocolate86 · 15/02/2018 18:46

Hi I’m really worried about work too. I had about 6 weeks off in my last pregnancy and I’m scared I’ll get in trouble or worse sacked if I have to do that again. Hopefully not. I’ve been horribly sick several times this afternoon and can’t move off the sofa without dashing to the toilet for a dry heaving session. My job involves being on my feet all day. Not sure what to do. I had to tell work really early last time.

Very useful

FellOutOfBed2wice · 15/02/2018 18:49

Go the GP and insist on being listened to. I had hyperemisis in both pregnancies that was undiagnosed in the first for some time (dickhead GP just told me morning sickness was normal). Ended up in hospital, tore my stomach lining and now have a persistent stomach ulcer five years down the line. So yeah, don’t be me. See your doctor without delay and insist they help.

hotchocolate86 · 15/02/2018 18:49

Oh @MotherofPearl I think I might remember you from when I was last on the hyperemesis board a couple of years ago. It was so helpful being on that board.
It really is hideous feeling so poorly. Luckily my toddler has been very good at entertaining himself for the last few days. I feel bad for him though.

You poor poor thing your have my sympathy so much! I had this with both my pregnancies and it was awful. It's one of the reasons I only had 2 kids as I originally wanted 4!

If your lips are dry and cracked you sound very dehydrated. For your safety and the baby's get to the doc ASAP so they can rehydrate you xx

Feb2018mumma · 15/02/2018 18:51

I'm so sorry you're feeling this, I had months off work... so much that stopped being paid, couldn't eat or drink, even sucking polo's I was throwing up, doctor said as long as stays in for 20 mins baby is getting something so no need for iv unless you cant hold liquids for 20 mins, stopped being sick eventually but started up again at 37 weeks, it is so upsetting and tiring, I miss sleep and am so worn out from trying to drink to keep baby hydrated then spending the next 15 minutes throwing up!!! Unfortunately even the pills the doctors give you weren't amazing for me but hopefully they could help you? No advice except for anti sickness pills from Dr but if you find anything that works please let me know! 39+4 and so sick I spend most my days crying at the moment!

MotherofPearl · 15/02/2018 18:54

Quite possibly OP. I was on there a lot, but hardly have time to pop in on the thread to offer support anymore. Have you got an EPU at your local hospital? Often the best place to get some treatment, and many allow you to self refer. Beats A&E or GP ime.

hotchocolate86 · 15/02/2018 18:56

I should be hearing from my gp tomorrow. Hopefully they will prescribe something I can try. If not I think I will have to see if I can go to my epu.
@Feb2018mumma Did they try you with ondansetron? It was the only thing that worked for me last time round but I was only able to get it after I had been hospitalised. I was still sick with it and had to go in several times to be rehydrated but I felt a lot better with it. Thank goodness you are nearly there though and will soon meet your baby.

Backenette · 15/02/2018 19:07

doctor said as long as stays in for 20 mins baby is getting something so no need for iv unless you cant hold liquids for 20 mins

I’ve been told that. Actually I was told it wasn’t a problem vomiting because ‘something always stays down.’ And i fixed him with a very polite smile and I told him in no uncertain terms that that was a completely unacceptable state to be left in for any more than a day or two. I asked him why he thought it was acceptable, and if he could hold down his current level of demanding work on tiny sips of fluid. Then I puked on his desk.

I encourage you all to be polite but firm - I can assure you no man would be told this is OK. It is NOT ok to be left only able to sip at fluids, it’s realy not. There are safe drugs out there and drips are pretty much risk free (if you’re starving they need to push some thiamine before any carbs.)

It is disgraceful that women are allowed to get into this state, told its normal and then expectedto get on with looking after their kids and working. Utterly, totally unacceptable. It’s misogyny. Do NOT accept it.

MotherofPearl · 15/02/2018 19:38

Hear hear Backenette. It's extraordinary to me that so many HCPs expect women to just put up with truly debilitating levels of sickness.

hotchocolate86 · 15/02/2018 20:12

I fail to see why anyone would consider it acceptable for anyone to be so sick for so long. I know if I was feeling this sick with anything else I wouldn’t even consider going to work. Do you all get the whole pregnancy is not an illness thing said to you as well? I had a lot of people comment on how terrible I looked last time but then they’d comment on how it’s just morning sickness or something. I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall.

OP posts:
hotchocolate86 · 16/02/2018 09:43

I’ve been prescribed something called promethazine. Hopefully that will help a bit.

OP posts:
Anatidae · 16/02/2018 09:47

Oh yes. Pregnancy is not an illness.

‘But one can be ill when pregnant and one can be ill with complications caused by pregnancy, no? Or are pregnant women immune to all ills? That argument is logically flawed. It’s a non sequitur.’

Fix with polite stare that clearly implies said person is a moron whilst maintaining air of impeccable politeness.

SLR1906 · 16/02/2018 09:54

Ive just had a meltdown and was sent home from work. Popped in to pharmacist and he was super helpful (well theres not much he can do for me) but he was such a reassuring man who seemed to genuinely care!! If only they made doctors with that mind set! He told me rest is very important and that ginger helps with sickness, i'll try anything!!!
