Positive Stories needed! Pregnant with stitch after cone biopsy and LLETZ last year

I'm currently 17+4 weeks pregnant having had a stitch placed at 13wks. Prior to the procedure my cervix had been measured at 1.9cm, however after the op she told me there was less there to work with than she'd thought and she'd had to move my bladder to get it in. She told me it was almost certainly going to be a preterm delivery, I just have to get to 28weeks, every week is a bonus and if we don't get the outcome we want this time, she'll do a transabdominal stitch before we try again. Needless to say I was VERY upset after being told all this.

I've been reassuring myself with knowing that this Dr is very much a 'worst case scenario' Dr. She's the same one I saw when I had the cancer scare, so I've experience of her bedside manner!

My next appointment is on Monday when I'll be 18weeks.

I've joined some FB support groups for Incompetent Cervixes and there's a few women on there who have had stitches for the same reason as me, but mostly they're due to their dilating too early.

I'm hoping someone who's had a stitch with minimal cervix remaining will come along on here and tell me their positive story with a happy ending. Please!!

I have just had the stitch placed at 14 weeks this week. My cervix was a good length when placed so hoping it's ok, I have an IC and had a preterm delivery last year. My son only lived for 8 hours. My story is not the same as yours but i didn't want to read and run, I'm just offering support and a handhold from an anxious mum to be SmileThanks

Thanks @Dorabean I appreciate it Smile

I've been posting here too, but it's quiet so was hoping for traffic!

Hope someone comes along in a bit with a good news story. I didn't need the stitch, my cervix started shortening just before 24 weeks, I had progesterone pessaries four times a day up until 37 weeks and went to 40+5, I was told to rest as much as poss from 32 weeks and was signed off. Hope you all goes well for you Flowers

DS1 was born at 24 weeks after a stitch at 22 weeks. In hindsight the consultant who placed the stitch felt that I was most likely in pre-labour already at the time the stitch was placed - so it was never going to work - but it get us those vital extra two weeks. Very strangely I was never warned by anyone in all my clinic appointments about having an extreme premmie, they were simply talking about either the pregnancy ending too soon for a happy outcome or going full term. Really odd. It sounds like your doc is both sensible and realistic!

DS is now 12 years old. We’ve had a tough time but he’s here and fabulous.

Also a trans abdominal stitch, although mentioned for such a heartbreaking reason, would be reassuring for future pregnancies. I was refused one for my second pregnancy but did get wonderful specialist antenatal care, with two stitches top and bottom of my cervix put in at 12 weeks. DS2 was sewn in so well that when he made his appearance at 38 weeks he got stuck!

Best of luck x

Thanks both! And Catkin, sounds like you've had a time of it. I think if my Dr had done an internal check of my cervix she would have recommended the transabominal straight away to be honest. Hopefully hindsight won't matter and it'll all work out for me anyway. I believe my hospital has a good track record of prem care too so I'm definitely in the best place.

Anymore for anymore? Grin
