Hi,
I have just come back from the doctors today to have been told I am 16 weeks pregnant... I'm in colossal shock as I have the coil (hormone not copper.
I don't know what to think or even say. I don't think I wanted this to happen

I planned all of my pregnancies and they were all very much wanted. When I got that bfp each time, I was absolutely TERRIFIED and horrified and worried and all sorts of everything negative. I can only imagine how you must be feeling having a surprise pregnancy.

I'm glad your dp was excited, and I hope your appointment today brings you some more information so that you can make the right choice for you about how things will progress.

Thinking of you op. Thanks

How are you feeling OP?

Purplerain101 · 26/01/2018 12:31

Had you been having periods as normal or was your cycle irregular? Must have been such a shock. Had you gone to the drs thinking it was something else or did you think you might be pregnant? Hope your scan went well today

CremeDeSudo · 26/01/2018 12:59

Congratulations OP!

I'm also 16wks, 17 on Sunday.

Can I ask those of you who found out so late though, how you have no clue? It baffles me! Sickness/typical symptoms aside as I appreciate not everyone gets those, I've been crampy since I found out (at 6wks), could feel my uterus getting bigger from around 8/9wks, I started finding it harder to lean over from about a week or so ago, anything that's resting under my tummy is uncomfortable and feels like it's digging in..

How do you not notice?! I echo @Purplerain - did you think it was something else or somethign was wrong?

BelleandBeast · 26/01/2018 13:06

Well, if you are having sex, there is always a chance you might be pregnant. No contraceptive is 100%.

How do you feel about your partner's reaction to the news?

AllWasWell · 26/01/2018 13:09

I haven't had a period since having a coil, and I had some cramping but that has happened since the coil so no surprises. No sickness or any other real symptoms but I have been busy.
I saw my midwife and managed to have a scan and I am actually 18 weeks so the people who said I was further alone was right.
I feel like I'm coming to terms with it more now. Last night was a lot of crying, indecision and calculations. Seeing the baby made it so real for me and knowing that it is what I can feel inside me

Had you not been some gaining weight?
Seeing how many people on this thread have had similar experiences shows it’s not that uncommon to not realise you’re pregnant though.
Big congrats and glad everything was ok from your scan

QuickSod · 26/01/2018 13:16

Wow what a shock!

Annabelle4 · 26/01/2018 13:19

Congratulations Flowers

What a shock.

You must be due around June?

AllWasWell · 26/01/2018 13:32

I had gained some weight but Christmas has just gone so I thought it was just over indulgence
I'm still in shock but it's settling in a bit now. I'm terrified to tell work as I only changed jobs like 4 weeks ago

Well at least you've mostly got the boring bit done... Wink I found out at ten weeks and it still dragged on and on... Although she did hold out to nearly 42 weeks before getting evicted... so at least you are almost halfway there without even thinking about it..

I jest but I can only imagine the shock. Just be totally honest with work, these things happen and while its a bit rubbish as you'll only get statutory pay etc they are best knowing sooner rather than later so they can get things sorted for you.

Do they have to hold my job? They head hunted me for the position and worried they are gonna be pissed. Especially as when I started they talked about babies and I said I wasn't planning anytime soon (was true) but AHH.
Who do I tell. My manager or HR ?

AllWasWell · 26/01/2018 13:57

No, no offer to see a consultant do you think I could ask? My main worry of finding out so late is having to tell people soon and not having time to process

Don't worry about your job OP, they cannon discriminate against you because of pregnancy. I started a new job when I was 14 weeks pregnant. Good luck Thanks

MrsHopity · 26/01/2018 14:09

Your employer should not have brought up babies in an interview, it can cause discrimination. I doubt they would ask a male the same question. Even if you knew you were pregnant then, legally you don't have to tell your employer until 25 weeks.

I had fallen pregnant before I started working for current employer. I was terrified to tell them, if they were pissed off they certainly didn't show it. They have been really supportive.

Good luck

What a shock OP, but huge congratulations! There's so many positives about finding out so late, I'd start to focus on those :D
