Hi,
I have just come back from the doctors today to have been told I am 16 weeks pregnant... I'm in colossal shock as I have the coil (hormone not copper.
I don't know what to think or even say. I don't think I wanted this to happen

This happened to me too.
I was about 20 weeks when I found out properly then had him at 27 so nobody really knew I was pregnant and he was in hospital for ages so I seemed to just appear with a pram 😂

AllWasWell · 25/01/2018 19:51

That is one of my worries. I was pregnant over Christmas and I've eaten a drunk a lot of stuff that I shouldn't of. I have now talked to my dp and he is ecstatic, who said him joking I was pregnant was wishful thinking I think you were right

That’s excellent news about your dp. A relief. It will take time to accept this surprise Flowers

It happens to a lot of women OP. I think in most cases you have to seriously cane it every day for the baby to be affected - I’ve known children whose mums drank bottles of spirits daily, and they were fine.

As for the food, the concern for most of it is it giving you food poisoning - if you haven’t been ill from anything I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

You’ll get more reassurance from your scan, and from your midwife.

Are you sure you're 16 weeks?

If you're feeling genuine movement, you would be a fair bit further on I'd have thought.

Saz1995 · 25/01/2018 20:01

Congratulations!!! I didn't find out I was pregnant to 25 weeks lol, good job he was 2 weeks late xx

Kiztok · 25/01/2018 20:03

Great news that he's taken it well 😊 x

Atticusss · 25/01/2018 20:05

Congratulations (I think! Don't want to pressure you if you aren't happy).

I have to say I agree you may be further along, I felt flutters with my first at 16 weeks but only because I was really focusing on them, if you'd noticed them enough to go to the doctors I'd imagine you'd be further. Tomorrow you may know if it is a girl or boy at the scan. I'm not saying this to scare you but just to mentally prepare you.

cookiedough1 · 25/01/2018 20:09

Did the doc feel your tummy? GP's are not usually as good at guessing weeks as the midwives and specialists, but they would be able to narrow it down a bit. I felt movement after 20 weeks with all of mine, DC3 was 24 weeks before I felt a thing! DC3 was also a surprise baby and I didn't know until 21 weeks. Try not to worry about what you have eaten etc and just focus on what's ahead.

Builderrage · 25/01/2018 20:11

I was 18 weeks with my first. I had been told I probably couldn't get pregnant and had been on a rare night out where I had drunk for the first time in ages. I had had a fair bit to drink and an xray and medicine and all kinds.

AllWasWell · 25/01/2018 20:34

Yeah the doctor felt my stomach. She said it was just an estimate and things would be more clear when I see the midwife tomorrow morning

oh OP. What a shock/surprise. Glad that your DP is supportive but remember, you have options.

Agree with PP - 16 weeks is very early to feel movement. its is usually around 20 weeks. I felt DC1 at 18 weeks and I remember that the midwife commented that it was very early. felt DC2 from 21/22 weeks (anterior placenta) so I would prepare myself for the possibility to be much further along than 4 months.

When will you be having a scan?

hotcrossbuns765 · 25/01/2018 22:28

I felt my first at 16 weeks, you could be further along though. Take your time to think Thanks

Itsjustaphase84 · 25/01/2018 22:35

Oh wow. Glad dp is happy. Congratulations xx

GimbleInTheWabe · 25/01/2018 22:45

Congratulations OP. I'm glad your DP is supportive of you. You so have a choice here so please don't feel otherwise.
I had just turned 26 when I had DS (unplanned also) who is now 3months and, like you, have no friends who have babies. However I've found being a 'youngish' mum really to my advantage and it's been the biggest and best challenge of my life so far. If you have a supportive partner then that is really half the battle won already imo.
Let it all sink in and then see what you want to do. Good luck tomorrow at the mw appointment.

StylishMummy · 25/01/2018 22:46

Good luck tomorrow OP

GlitteryFluff · 25/01/2018 23:19

What a shock. Thanks

MyOtherProfile · 25/01/2018 23:22

Wow what a shock. How are you feeling now?

Foggymist · 25/01/2018 23:38

I felt movement with my first at 16 weeks, nearly 19 with my second, so its possible.

Alorralorralaughs1 · 25/01/2018 23:39

Congratulations! I know exactly how shocked you'll be feeling. I also found out i was pregnant at 16 weeks with my 3rd. I nearly fell off the exam bed whilst getting a scan and watching the weeks go up whilst they measured how far along i was. Plus side was once i finally got my head around it that half of the pregnancy was nearly over so it didnt seem to drag at all.

Thelampshadelady · 25/01/2018 23:44

It’s lovely that your dp is so happy about your news.
What a shock!

Windowgazer123 · 26/01/2018 08:37

Wow - yes, what a shock. I'm glad your DP is happy but I also hope you can both come to a decision and support one another.
Good luck at the midwives - let us know how you get on.

RedBlackberries · 26/01/2018 08:56

Ahh, so glad Dp is on board. It's such a shock when pregnancy is unplanned.

MacNcheese87 · 26/01/2018 11:55

How are you feeling today OP?

Nixen · 26/01/2018 12:01

Congratulations OP! I hope you’ve managed to have a scan this morning. Be kind to yourself, you’ve had a big shock Flowers
