Amniotic band syndrome, missing both arms

My heart is totally broken, our routine 12 weeks scan on Monday flagged up that baby was missing it's right forearm and hand.
Today we had a consultant check and it's been confirmed that it's not just the right arm that's been affected it's also it's left. Baby has a small upper arm on the right and left side stops just below/on the elbow with no digits to either.

We already have two healthy boys of 5 and 2 and this blow has just totally pulled the rug from under our feet.

I've been trying to research into babies that have been born missing arms and generally I'm only coming across one arm that's affected so quality of life isn't really affected as they still have one arm and working hand to work with, how will my baby deal with the basics without!?

We've been told it's probably been caused by amniotic band syndrome and we're just unlucky that it's happened to both arms.

We were obviously given the option of ending the pregnancy which we haven't totally ruled out but for now we've put it to the back of our minds until we know what roads best to take for baby and our boys.

If anyone had experienced this I'd be so grateful either way of experiences as right now I feel like I'm the only one going through this as I just can't find anything about it anywhere with both arms and the unknown is petrifying!!

Hi everyone I've just been re-reading all your lovely comments Thankyou all so much!

So update... we had our genetic results back and it was all confirmed our baby's limb anomalies were not down to genetics which is AMAZING!
We were however told our baby was a little girl which was devastating as my husband was rooting for a pink one! We decided to call her Eleanor and have planted a lovely pink clematis in our front garden so everyday we can see it when we come home!

I posted a different thread this morning asking opinions on a test I've taken ( bfp or an evap line) .... and I don't want to get my hopes up but we may have a little rainbow on it's way 🌈 still don't want to get myself too excited!

Ah Third, fingers crossed for you! I read your thread back in January and thought you made the best decision out of two heartbreaking choices.

Eleanor is an absolutely beautiful name.

Best of luck with this test!

I must admit I have got my fingers crossed too!
We haven't really thought about trying again as all still very raw and I'm still quite emotional but I'm usually like clockwork and the last two months have been bang on as predicted and this month I've gone nearly a week over now! I haven't told my husband yet about the faint line he knew I was testing yesterday and I said it was negative as no real line there but this mornings one I took it shoved it in my pocket and waved him off to work and when I went to look about 5 mins later saw the tiniest faint line! It all seems abit like dejavu! It's so weird. If i am pregnant this will be a very heavily guarded pregnancy from even family so it's nice to be able get abit excited here I felt like I needed to share!!
