I know this has been talked about here many times before but...I've just sent a Silvercross 3D pram back to Mothercare as it was too big and bulky and too hard to fold up. Now out of options and becoming obsessed I live in a small basement flat with stairs to the outside world, will be using London transport BUT also love the idea of having a pram for when bambino is small. Thinking of having to go the expensive bugaboo route but really don't want to be ripped off...any helpful comments/ advice/ ideas...Thanks!

Got an older style pliko (not P3) with a Navetta carrycot, which is brilliant as the pliko folds up and you can carry it easily, the cot detatches so you can take baby up and down stairs separately from the chassis, without disturbing them - fits on all buses etc. (but not with the navetta attached - you'd have to detach it or wait till using the buggy without the cot) plus the buggy itself is suitable from birth, if you DO want to take it somewhere folded without much hassle.
Good shopping basket, too. I'm not sure how it compares to th pramette, but looks smaller and lighter as far as I can tell.
Good luck!!

Too late for Beckmo but anyone else - also worth checking out the iCandy Cherry - just out, very light and has backward facing pushchair option as well as carrycot. V easy to fold tho like all backward facer options you have to take the seat off to fold. Loads cheaper than bugaboo and takes the Maxi Cosi. But not as pretty as Bugaboo.

We've been through similar dilemmas. Current thinking is to go for sling and Techno and skip the pram stage knowing we can use the Techno for newborn if need be.

However, am a bit worried that baby will be born into hottest global warmed summer ever and that sling might be too hot, in which case we'll be back to the ICandy/Bugaboo dilemma as not sure I'd be happy with a forward facing option all the time when so tiny...

Hi all. What is the full name of this Techno you all keep going on about?
It's early days for me, 5wks 3days. But still head spinning with all these prams.
Or can anyone do a link for me??

NoviceKnitter · 29/04/2007 20:14

Not good on links I'm afraid but google Maclaren Techno XT or look at Mumsnet best buggies guide which is out of date but puts the Techno top.

The Techno is much loved because it can be used from birth (baby can lie flat), is super practical for getting about, folding, etc, and has various other useful features like a peephole window so you can see your baby from above, and also a pull down UV shade for sunny days. It needs padding out with a lambskin but seems to be a great option and is cheap at £170. The difficulty arises if you want to start off with a pram or a backward facing pushchair. The only way to do that is to buy a travel system but loads of people seem to end up adding the Techno to their buggy collection at some point! A friend of mine with a two year old reckons sling it then Techno it and you're laughing...

wouldn't it be a good idea if there was a questionaire that you could fill in with all your needs, like what size carboot you've got and for going up stairs or just using it from the house...etc, like nappylady has for nappies? is there such a thing?

Imawurzel · 29/04/2007 20:30

Sounds like a good idea J20baby.
I don't think £170 is cheap personally.
I haven't got that kind of money.

But then if it lasts 4 years then i guess it's a good investment.
just gonna have to save up. Got til December.

NoviceKnitter · 29/04/2007 20:33

It's cheap compared to Bugaboos and the like... And you can have it for more than one child... ebay's always worth checking out too, especially if you've got a bit of time, might find a bargain...

Imawurzel · 29/04/2007 20:36

Really don't like the bugaboos or quinny's.
Really odd looking. Not for me.

Isn't the £99.97 for the whole kaboodle? Thats what i read it as. Don't really want to start buying yet, too early.I'd feel i was tempting fate. I would keep it at my mums though.DH doesn't like 3 wheelers.

J20BABY · 30/04/2007 08:11

i thought it was for it all, they have the pram or similar anyway on its own for £59 so i think its the pram, car seat and rain cover, and i, too are very tempted!
