What about it makes you think it wouldn’t be safe?

MyYoniFromHull · 07/01/2018 15:50

It's not shark infested custard is it?

Yes of course it is! Enjoy!

cricketqueen · 07/01/2018 15:51

I had it last night it's yummy. It's custard not absinthe. I'm 15 weeks btw.

dementedpixie · 07/01/2018 15:51

why would it be unsafe? Custard has never been deemed unsafe to eat during pregnancy

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 07/01/2018 15:52

Lord above! it’s bloody canned custard. Why on earth wouldn’t it be safe. What else aren’t you eating?

lookingforthecorkscrew · 07/01/2018 15:54

I’m going to have to stop reading these ‘can I eat x’ threads. They’re giving me extra wrinkles!

Because “proper” custard is made with eggs, and heated to below boiling.

Tinned custard will have been heated to volcanic temps in the canning process. Plus there is no egg in ready made custard. See the ingredients o/p has posted.

But don’t eat it because of the palm oil. Not ethical.

No need for sarcastic comments 😏

perfectly safe, in fact undercooked eggs are now safe as long as they are lion stamped. But a custard from a tin would always be safe as would be pasteurised anyway. Enjoy

Thanks @demirose87 xx

The OP added a picture of the ingredients and there isn’t any egg in it!!

bettydraper31 · 07/01/2018 17:04

Go on the nhs website, it has everything on there.

Never seen custard on it.

Please look at the list. X

So proper custard would have cooked eggs in it which are also safe to eat! Custard is not on the NHS list to avoid whether made with or without eggs.

I think we need a sticky in the pregnancy section with a link to the NHS website of food safety in pregnancy.

We've had ginger, curries and custard in the space of a week, there's clearly a problem somewhere if it has reached this level of paranoia about food in pregnancy for so many people.

toxitears181 · 07/01/2018 17:58

What's wrong with women asking other women what's ok in pregnancy? First time mums like myself are new to this! People need to get outta there ass and stop being so god damn rude!

dementedpixie · 07/01/2018 18:01

I just don't understand why you would think you couldn't have it when looking at the ingredients

PickleSarnie · 07/01/2018 18:06

As long as you don't eat it whilst bungy jumping

pastabest · 07/01/2018 18:07

Because the information about risky food groups is readily available on the NHS website, is linked on the many many threads on mumsnet on this subject and is also available from your midwife.

I also imagine 20 years ago first time mothers weren't asking other mothers if tinned custard was safe to eat. It's a reasonably recent thing I think to worry about every single ingredient. The internet has a lot to answer for, but even on the most scaremongery websites I doubt you would find any warnings about tinned custard.

It's a shame that you feel people have been rude, but I can see why people have struggled to reply with anything other than 'of course tinned custard is fine, why wouldn't it be?'

If there was a mumsnet sticky with the NHS link that you could have looked at guest then it would have saved you posting AND having your feelings hurt.

pastabest · 07/01/2018 18:08

Guest = first

MyDcAreMarvel · 07/01/2018 18:12

Op nobody was rude but yourself.
