Edwards syndrome markers

I've been told I've got too much amniotic fluid and the baby is measuring a bit large for dates.

I've got another growth scan in 2 weeks.

Afterwards the doctor mentioned Edwards Syndrome as a possible cause (amongst many others) and this has me so worried.

The 20 week scan showed no abnormalities at all, everything seemed perfect...I just stupidly assumed that meant that these types of things would be spotted.

My blood test result didn't mention Edwards or Patau Syndrome just said I was lower risk for Down's syndrome and I left it at that, nobody mentioned anything until now.

Is it possible my baby has this life threatening syndrome and it has gone unnoticed? She looks so perfect from the scan...I feel so panicked. Will know more after the scan on 2nd Jan but feel like I'll panic all over Xmas now because of this.

I just assumed it would have been picked up in an earlier scan?

Bloody hate people like that x

Starlive22 · 10/01/2018 15:06

I must sound horrible! And of course it's not their fault but I hate being told I'm just hormonal when I'm actually worried! It's different! Plus just because they haven't heard of these syndromes or the tests for them it doesn't mean I'm inventing worries.

Again, rant over haha I actually feel bad now they aren't that bad! I probably am though! X

Naj, you're allowed to be hormonal. And although my pregnancy was ironically problem free I was a nervous false timer and everyone who had a nice easy time were so blasé about my fears because THEY were fine afterall

KTD27 · 10/01/2018 16:49

Deep breaths. You’re nearly a day down and one day closer to having all of these worries removed.
The 3d scan not flagging up anything massive is really positive. Hugs

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2018 17:27

You know we all wanba meet her now right??

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2018 17:27

Wanna

Starlive22 · 10/01/2018 18:02

@SleepingStandingUp exactly that! I'm sure if I'm lucky enough to have everything be fine I'll look back on this I'll be different but it's bloody hard to trivialise things yet as I'm still actually going through it!

Can't wait until I can actually be pissed off about things without it automatically being attributed to hormones.

Ugh...just want the results to come back fine...seem to be all over the place today.

Thanks @KTD27 hugs are greatly appreciated xx

Day 2 and the wait is KILLING me, feel a little more stable than yesterday. Keep trying to remind myself it's rare, it's rare with no anomalies picked up, but the doubts seem to find a way of creeping back in.

OP posts:
KTD27 · 11/01/2018 14:40

They will. It’s only natural but think about the advice you’d give a friend if they were in your situation. ALL the evidence points towards your baby being absolutely fine.
Keep putting one front in front of the other and you’ll get there x

SleepingStandingUp · 11/01/2018 14:43

Its rare with no anomalies.
Its rare with a good birth weight.
Its rare any way
Xx

Starlive22 · 11/01/2018 19:50

@SleepingStandingUp @KTD27 thank you so much guys, you are really keeping me going, the wait is awful isn't it x

How are you doing today? Another day down almost.

Starlive22 · 12/01/2018 15:06

Hi @KTD27 I'm ok, bit tearful, it sounds silly but waiting for these results is taking a lot out of me. I keep getting nervous when my phone rings and I know the blood probably hasn't even got there yet, they said two weeks and the lady doing the scan said at least one, so I've got a lot more to go xxx

OP posts:
Starlive22 · 12/01/2018 15:06

But you are right, the days are going by, I'm glad it's done and at some point in the future I'll know xx

Have they sent it to the US or to St. George’s? I know lots of places do them.
My panormanwas sent to the us and the sonographer told me the blood gets picked up in the afternoon and gets there within 24hrs. I’d assume yours got picked up the day after as it was in the evening and is there by now if so.
Remember the machines they use run over the weekend so as long as it’s there you’re good.

Starlive22 · 12/01/2018 16:02

It was sent to the US, so thinking it wouldn't have been posted until Wednesday, have no idea how they get there but for £450 you would hope it's some kind of express post or courier. Where was yours sent? X

Starlive22 · 12/01/2018 16:02

Sorry, just seen it was sent to the US! X

KTD27 · 12/01/2018 17:06

I bet it’s there! I paid a similar amount.
They fedex it pretty bloody quickly pop it in the machine and then I think from memory she said its 5 days of doing whatever it is they do. Results are sent over and they’ll call you as soon as they have them. I worried that Christmas would get in the way but she said nothing does. It was 7 days from test to results pretty much to the hour.
Xx

Starlive22 · 12/01/2018 19:09

Oh wow I hope it's not more than a week, I'll have driven myself mad!! Oh good that's really cheered me up thinking it might be there! X

Just read my report - bloods taken on the 12th. Received on the 13th results on the 17th and given to me on the 18th. So exactly as I thought. 5 days from receiving bloods to results and you’ll get them the next day. Fingers crossed. It’s not long.
My sonographer said they tell everyone 10 days to two weeks just in case. Hope you’re more of a 6-7!

MynewnameisKy · 13/01/2018 11:16

Hi, just de lurking to say Fingers crossed for you here too.

Starlive22 · 13/01/2018 13:44

@KTD27 thank you so much for having a look! That's really nice of you I really appreciate it. Think it's going to be a long weekend but I'm 4 days in now (3 if you allow for it being Tuesday evening) but even though it feels incredibly slow, the days are going on. Just praying for good results x
