Edwards syndrome markers

I've been told I've got too much amniotic fluid and the baby is measuring a bit large for dates.

I've got another growth scan in 2 weeks.

Afterwards the doctor mentioned Edwards Syndrome as a possible cause (amongst many others) and this has me so worried.

The 20 week scan showed no abnormalities at all, everything seemed perfect...I just stupidly assumed that meant that these types of things would be spotted.

My blood test result didn't mention Edwards or Patau Syndrome just said I was lower risk for Down's syndrome and I left it at that, nobody mentioned anything until now.

Is it possible my baby has this life threatening syndrome and it has gone unnoticed? She looks so perfect from the scan...I feel so panicked. Will know more after the scan on 2nd Jan but feel like I'll panic all over Xmas now because of this.

I just assumed it would have been picked up in an earlier scan?

Oh my word happy and relieved and thank god!!! I really had started to prepare myself for the worst. At least I can show the Dr when I go back on the 30th so we can happily rule that out!!

Despite the wait, that was the best money I ever spent, if I were to ever get pregnant again I'd do it as soon as I could.

Just so relieved 😌

SleepingStandingUp · 18/01/2018 17:02

Oh Star i'm so very vey happy for you. It should be weird to be this relieved for a stranger on the internet but i tell you, I am, and I know i'm not the only one on here who was rooting for Daisy.
I popped to docs for my little one then shopping so just checked my phone as ia came in whilst i'm on the loo

Get that credit card out at the weekend and go shopping crazy!! And you better come back with a new baby picture too!!!!!

I delivered a little early with my son sure to the pressure from the excess fluid so be prepared that you might be a week or so early despite everyone saying you go over with the first.

You and hubby must be on cloud nine xx

Starlive22 · 18/01/2018 17:09

@bananaramallamana is your baby measuring big? Mine has a big abdomen, maybe that's a reason for the fluid? Are you having extra scans? Keep me posted xx

I had polyh with all three of my pregnancies, my first - came 2 weeks early naturally a few days before a scan to consider induction due to size and he was 6lb 6oz! The excess fluid made my belly measure 6 weeks ahead! They all had the tube check to make sure there was nothing wrong but there's never been any issue.
