No morning sickness

Hi everyone,
Just joined and hoping from some advice from people who have been there and done it.

I'm 39 years old and pregnant for the first time after 10 years of trying due to unexplained infertility with my partner. I am 8 weeks 2 days gone and I feel no different to normal.

I have seen all kinds of reports and posts on the Internet that say that having no morning sickness or nausea by 12 weeks means that you are much more likely to miscarry or have a baby with birth defects. As I am a high risk pregnancy due to my age, weight and hyper tension, this has got me really worried.

I just wondered how many others had had a nausea and sickness free pregnancy that's resulted in a healthy baby? Or knows anyone who has.

Thanks for taking the time to read x

Completely symptom-free pregnancy here, and my DD is now 4 weeks old and perfectly healthy. While I think nausea etc can be a sign hormone levels are strong, it doesn't necessarily follow that absence of symptoms means there is anything to worry about. You also tend to hear more about difficult pregnancies as people are less inclined to talk about it when there's nothing to mention! But I had all the same worries as you - and was convinced every time I had a scan that someone was going to tell me I wasn't pregnant after all. Congratulations and good luck Smile

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm trying not to read too much into it but it's such a worrying time isn't it and every little thing I read about seems to send me into a panic, even though I know that's the worst thing for the baby. Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful daughter x

Barely any symptoms here, not even mood swings! I had a touch of low blood pressure in week 8 and fainted a couple of times but that was absolutely all. No sickness or nausea.

My perfect 13 day old son is sitting on my lap now.

Please try not to worry, I hope everything goes well for you

Becca8112 · 09/12/2017 18:41

Oh thank you so much for taking the time to reply, it's very reassuring. And congratulations on the birth of your beautiful son xx

No symptoms with my first and a healthy baby boy. Plenty with my second and a healthy baby girl. Congratulations.

AuditAngel · 09/12/2017 18:45

No nausea or symptoms with number 1, nor 2 until the placenta praevia played up. Got nauseous with number 3 unless I ate every 3 hours hungry or not

Hollymchollyface · 09/12/2017 18:50

I'm in a similar situation but only around 6 weeks and feel normal or maybe mild symptoms. I have a ds already and my morning sickness started before I got my bfp and continued to about week 18 so I am concerned, even though I know every pregnancy is different etc... also have had 2 mcs and felt sick then so who knows? Its horrible not knowing what is going on. Have you had a scan?

FoxSticks · 09/12/2017 18:52

I didn't have any morning sickness with either of my two, and neither did my sister. I have a boy and a girl and felt absolutely the same with both. The only symptoms I had to begin with, were being very tired and a raging thirst, that was what made me test with number two. I remember feeling very nervous about lack of symptoms, everyone said how lucky I was but I just wanted to be reassured with some nausea!

WhatwouldRuthdo · 09/12/2017 18:54

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I have two boys and didn’t have a jot of sickness throughout. It worried me too with DS1 but unnecessarily - both were very healthy pregnancies (aside from the horrible SPD with DS2, but he was fine!).

OutComeTheWolves · 09/12/2017 18:56

No symptoms at all with my first- was convinced at the scan they'd think I was imagining being pregnant. He's now a very healthy little boy who makes his presence known a lot!

I think just people are more likely to imagine it if they have a horrible pregnancy which leads people to believe that everyone gets morning sickness.

OutComeTheWolves · 09/12/2017 18:57

Oh and completely anecdotally, out of myself and friends who've had symptom free pregnancies we've all ended up with boys!

Nowwhyareyoucrying · 09/12/2017 19:04

I’ve had no sickness at all, which worried me a lot at the beginning too. Like Fox my only symptoms were raging thirst and a few weeks of tiredness. I’m currently 20 weeks with a little boy.

Agree with wolves that you mainly hear the bad stories and not the good. Maybe there’s something in the boy thing too!

Squaffle · 09/12/2017 19:05

Absolutely no sickness whatsoever, now have healthy, happy 20 month old daughter. Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile x

Becca8112 · 09/12/2017 19:06

Thank you so much everyone for replying. I had a scan a private viability scan a week ago just for reassurance that everything was growing in the right place and seeing the heartbeat was amazing. I'm waiting for my 12 week scan appointment so hopefully that will put my mind at rest.

Thanks all for putting my mind at rest a lot. I'm going to try and put it out of my mind and not let it stress me.

Congratulations to you all on the arrival of your beautiful children xxx

No symptoms at all with DS. Really freaked me out. I remember my aunt saying, "You just feel different don't you" when I told her I was pregnant but I felt no different at all and didn't through the whole, problem free, very easy pregnancy.

With DD I knew I was pregnant before I was even late. Felt vaguely nauseous and just different.

PalomaViolets · 09/12/2017 19:14

I have a 14 week old little girl and the first time I was sick was after I was induced. Enjoy not being sick! I felt very lucky x

Alabasterangel6 · 09/12/2017 19:19

Oh gosh no here too! I had DS at 39 and didn’t feel nausea even once.

Later on I had a massive and uncontrollable craving for cold salad items but that is a whole different discussion!

Level75 · 09/12/2017 19:24

6 rounds of IVF before pregnant. Similarly paranoid about lack of symptoms. Easy pregnancy and birth. DD is currently playing a how to read game next to me. X

peachypops · 09/12/2017 19:33

I never had a whiff of morning sickness in either or my pregnancies (I was 37 and 40). In fact the only symptom I ever had was major hunger and I just went with it. I did really worry at first that I should be feeling nauseous and maybe my body wasn’t producing the right hormones but all was perfect and I’m now snuggled up with my 6 & 9 year olds Smile

Relax and enjoy OP.

Usernamegone · 09/12/2017 19:41

I’m 37 and currently 35 w pregnant. Only felt a bit queasy first thing in the morning from about 9-11 weeks. I was never sick at all and never ran to the loo feeling like I was going to be sick. However, there is plenty of time for pregnancy symptoms to kick in as from 20+ I have had raging heartburn!

Girlwiththearabstrap · 09/12/2017 19:57

Congratulations on your pregnancy! The early months are a stressful time but try not to worry about lack of symptoms. I've not had any in any pregnancy. No nausea, no sickness, no sore boobs, no fatigue. I had a miscarriage before my daughter so when I had no symptoms with her i was panicking and hysterical. However, all was well and the midwife who did my 12 week scan said I was one of the lucky ones for not having symptoms. Nothing this time either - I'm almost 20 weeks. The anxiety is still there in the background but I've realised that I'm just lucky when it comes to not feeling pregnant.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance and sharing all of your stories. It's so lovely to know that this site is here for support xx

I was 38 when I had DD. No nausea or morning sickness, in fact no "symptoms" at all. Just a happy healthy pregnancy ending up with a happy healthy baby. I wish you the same without the karmic revenge of a labour and delivery I had! Enjoy feeling good and every minute of being pregnant.

OhHolyJesus · 10/12/2017 12:43

I was the same at 37 and read at the time that something close to 30% of pregnant women experience no morning sickness. DS is nearly 2 and healthy as a horse.
Try not to worry - lots of us so called 'older mums' deliver perfectly healthy babies xx

Needmorehands · 10/12/2017 13:46

I have 4 healthy DCs and am currently 17weeks with number 5. I have never had morning sickness, or a miscarriage. I have always thought I was lucky, but I totally get how reassuring feeling symptoms might be
