I know this is quite a common topic on here but desperately want some reassurance! Am pregnant again after three miscarriages (no previous children) - I had a good first scan last week and this is the furthest I've ever got, but I'm finding it so hard not to worry about having no real symptoms, and particularly no morning sickness. There are a million newspaper articles etc reporting a study that found that women who didn't have it were much more likely to miscarry - they're all written as if this is amazing news because it'll cheer up the sick women, but they're such gloomy reading if you're not having morning sickness! I know no one can tell me what will happen with this one, but just hoping for some experiences? Is it really that bad a sign?

Lisa congrats on your pregnancy! I haven't had any sickness in any of my pregnancies. Please don't worry.

Farrar · 07/12/2017 10:51

I've given in and booked an early pregnancy scan for tomorrow afternoon, when I'll be 8+5. I do feel sick today but that's about it - boobs aren't particularly sore, still can't stand the thought of red meat.

I know that there's still plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong and the scan will only tell me baby is OK at that particular moment in time (or not :( ) but I just need to know either way now and that I haven't made any of it up! I sound like a madwoman don't I..

I was up from 2.30 until 4.30 this morning just thinking about the scan, roll on tomorrow at 3pm.

I would just like to add that sickness isn't a sign things will be okay either.
I have HG in my pregnancies. In my last pregnancy that started at 5.5 weeks. I had a mmc and passed the baby at 12+5. Despite it dying at 9+5 i still sick until the day before at 12+4.

This time I'm sick but not yet as bad as i was, that worries me but everyone is different and every pregnancy is different.

I hope for you just just not a sickly person and all is well with your little bean. I know its hard not to worry- I'm exactly the same as you after 2 mcs im a anxious mess.
Take care xxx

I was glad to see this thread as I think I'm nearly 7 weeks but have had very little nausea and no vomiting, but was really sick last pregnancy.

Farrar, how much was your early private scan please? I can find places that will do them but they're cagey on their prices and I'd need to know a rough price to sweeten up DH as we'd otherwise be looking at mid-Jan for the 1st scan.

My concern was whether it's a sign of more likely miscarriage (I'm over 40 so much higher miscarriage rate anyway) and the only other woman I know who had a little nausea but no sickness was my mother, but she was expecting twins! Not sure how keen I am to be hitched up to that ride.

Hope this pregnancy goes well for you OP.

Hey @DontCallMeJohnBoy - it was £49 at a place called 'Miracle Inside' in Leeds, they've got a load of good reviews too. Others all seemed to be around £80.
I just googled places that offer scans and found loads in Leeds with all prices on there, seems strange you can't find some.

I have three children. No nausea or sickness what so ever, not even during the birth. I consider my self extremely lucky. My sister was the same, our mum had really bad sickness with each child.

Farrar · 08/12/2017 19:38

Had my early scan today and everything is OK with our little bean! I didn't make the whole thing up!
Measuring at 8 weeks exactly so 4 days less than I thought but all is well and I can relax - just a little bit.

teabagfreak · 08/12/2017 21:01

I'm 26 weeks and have never been sick or felt sick once... 👍

JennyB88 · 08/12/2017 22:04

This thread has made me feel much better. I’m not sure exactly how many weeks pregnant I am as I have really irregular periods and went much longer than average between them. The doctor has estimated I’m around 5/6 weeks so still quite early I know, however I’ve spent the last week since I found out worrying as I’ve not had many symptoms and certainly no nausea. I know I should be grateful at the moment but that’s the one symptom everyone talks about when pregnant so I’ve been so worried not to have it! I can’t wait for my 12 week scan just to check everything’s ok and confirm that I’m definitely pregnant! Despite taking 3 positive tests I’m still convincing myself I must be imagining it!

First pregnancy, 33 weeks and never been sick. Don't listen to the news! Listen to your body and dnt stress. X

huha · 09/12/2017 01:02

First pregnancy SO sick. Sickest I've ever been. Had a girl. Second pregnancy slightly sick but never vomited. Third pregnancy, nothing! Felt fine, no nausea. I had 3 previous pregnancies where I had nausea that went away and I miscarried those. But baby 3 was happy and healthy (boy--prob why I didn't have any sickness compared to the girls!).

Rhynswynd · 09/12/2017 07:01

My first 2 had no morning sickness symptoms at all. My 3rd I had nausea but no vomiting. I tgen had 4 miscarriages with a lot if nausea no vomiting. Now 38 weeks pregnant and this baby I had a lot less nausea but a bit more dizziness.

All pregnancies are so very different. Be kind to yourself and just imagine that this will be an easy baby once they arrive due to the no sickness.

thingymaboob · 09/12/2017 08:44

Hi @LisaSimpsonsbff I cannot imagine what you must be going through. As someone who has had 1 miscarriage I know how anxious that first trimester is the entire pregnancy. I have hyperemesis and I've read a lot about it. There are lots of theories about why it happens but they still don't really know why women are sick. It's obviously hormone related but theres no agreed mechanism. Anecdotally I can say that I've known some women with hyperemesis who have still miscarried their babies and even been sick after they've miscarried. Are you on medication for reoccurring mc?

Zenne · 26/05/2020 02:35

Totally agree... All the overly positive articles about morning sickness are grim reading if you don't have nausea or sickness.

I am currently expecting my 3rd wee buddy :) I have 2 girls and was horrendously sick with both of them, all the way through both pregnancies. I have heard from friends that they too were horribly sick with their wee boys or girls.

This time around with baby 3 i have occasional nausea without the actual sickness which is very odd for me, although i am just about 7wks at the mo so there is time for things to change.

I am thinking maybe my diets different from when i was last pregnant and my hormones. I was 21yo and 24yo last times around & now i am 37yo! (Biiiig age difference)...

My initial thoughts were maybe it is it a wee boy this time but apparently you can have girls without sickness lol so that's just a myth.

Instead of sickness i am just hungry all the time and need to spend a penny ALOT!

Hodge85 · 26/05/2020 03:57

Hi,

Please try not to worry, I didn't suffer morning sickness, I only suffered slight nausea but this was due to the fact I have to take medication as soon as I wake up and having a pint of water on an empty tummy didn't agree with me but I never chucked it up. Some people suffer, some don't. It's difficult not to worry but try not too. I'm 37 weeks now and had a pretty good pregnancy. I hope you do too Smile x
