No morning sickness at 7.5 weeks

I know this is quite a common topic on here but desperately want some reassurance! Am pregnant again after three miscarriages (no previous children) - I had a good first scan last week and this is the furthest I've ever got, but I'm finding it so hard not to worry about having no real symptoms, and particularly no morning sickness. There are a million newspaper articles etc reporting a study that found that women who didn't have it were much more likely to miscarry - they're all written as if this is amazing news because it'll cheer up the sick women, but they're such gloomy reading if you're not having morning sickness! I know no one can tell me what will happen with this one, but just hoping for some experiences? Is it really that bad a sign?

I’m 35w now and didn’t have any morning sickness. I felt a bit queasy a few times first thing in the morning but this was after 9/10 weeks in think.

AccrualIntentions · 04/12/2017 20:20

I hated those articles too when I was pregnant, because I never had any symptoms. They were just another thing for me to worry about.

Greylilypad · 04/12/2017 20:21

3 DC sand never had morning sickness on any

Jenijena · 04/12/2017 20:21

Congratulations, and hoping this little one is the one...

With my first I had no symptoms until about 13 weeks, when I started with both nausea and nightly vomiting, which lasted on and off til 35 weeks. My second I had some nausea but relatively little vomiting throughout.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 04/12/2017 20:23

I think having seen a heartbeat at 7 weeks (if I read you correctly?) drops your odds of miscarriage more than the worst morning sickness would have done. Your risk starts dropping significantly after 7 weeks either way - the first 3 weeks are by far the highest risk.

Fingers crossed for you anyway.

LuluJakey1 · 04/12/2017 20:24

I had no early symptoms withDS and did not even realise I was pregnant until almost 8 weeks. Few days of feeling nauseous about 10 weeks and no more. None at all with DD.

Rebeccaslicker · 04/12/2017 20:28

It's really common OP - I'm sure I read that about half of pregnant women have no morning sickness. I spent ages wanting to be sick but not a sausage; I was reduced to poking my breasts looking for soreness like some kind of pervert!

Honestly it's a really terrible Indicator of whether you'll be ok or not. Pay no attention to it and focus instead on how high the % is of being fine once you've seen a heartbeat on a scan!

Congratulations on the little bean!

BigBaboonBum · 04/12/2017 20:31

I had hyperemisis with my eldest, absolutely nothing with my second, and this time I only started to feel sick at about 11ish weeks, worse at 13, starting to slightly get better now

notangelinajolie · 04/12/2017 20:36

3 babies and I didn't suffer from morning sickness with any of them. I did feel slightly queesy sometimes but I was never sick and it soon passed.

secmumlaley · 04/12/2017 20:42

I think most articles/discussions about pregnancy can alienate. Pregnancy is so different for everyone and when your reading up on stuff it feels like what your reading is different to your own pregnancy and makes us anxious. More so for those of us who haven't had an easy ride already!

For my first I had severe morning sickness and lost DS at 25 weeks. My DD was no sickness. And my last pregnancy with twins was even worse sickness (hospitalised twice) and then I lost one of my twins. The other twin is now a healthy 17 weeks boy. I write this to show how different pregnancies are and how I don't believe it's as simple as morning sickness leading to healthy babies. Are bodies and pregnancy isn't as simple as that!

Could luck with your pregnancy! As hard as it is try not to read too much, I just ended up annoyed or anxious when I did! Smile

AKP79 · 04/12/2017 20:45

This might help you a little... I had no morning sickness or symptoms of any kind with my very healthy DS.

However I had nausea constantly with my 2 mmcs. I’m pregnant again and have morning sickness. For me it feels like a bad sign.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 04/12/2017 20:56

Thanks so much all, this has helped calm my nerves. I did see a heartbeat but I was only 6 weeks then so apparently odds of miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat then are still 22%, and it's hard to back myself to be on the right side of stats!

AKP79 I'm really sorry you're feeling anxious too - it must feel horrible if it's feeling like your previous losses but I really think it must be a coincidence that you felt no sickness with DS - I don't think there can possibly be a way that sickness can possibly be a sign things are going wrong, even if for you it's not a reassuring sign either. Fingers tightly crossed for you.

I had one moment of nausea when cooking bacon and egg sandwiches with my now 2 year old...

QueenNefertitty · 04/12/2017 21:02

Never had any of the awful pregnancy sickness. Very lucky too, as lived on a narrowboat with a chemical toilet....

15mo sleeping next to me right now Smile

feral · 04/12/2017 21:38

I never felt even a wave of nausea with my DS. Perfect pregnancy.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 04/12/2017 22:13

Apart from me, my maternal Grandmother and one sister in law, no one else I know with children has ever admitted to morning sickness yet I know a lot of mothers.

I think it's one of those things, either you get it or you don't. I seem to get it whenever I conceive so with Ds, with the two relatively early miscarriages I had and now with this baby (13 weeks).

Mrstobe90 · 05/12/2017 02:42

Some people don’t get it and that’s quite normal. Out of everyone I know (both friends and family), I’m the only one who had it! I felt a little cheated lol

Lollipop30 · 05/12/2017 02:49

You’re not being sick is great! Fingers crossed it lasts!! I’ve not been ill with either of the first two but with this one I’ve hit 28weeks and not stopped spewing 🤢

Sashkin · 05/12/2017 02:49

Three miscarriages, one successful pregnancy. Felt pretty queasy during the unsuccessful pregnancies, a bit of occasional bloating during the successful one (a bit like I’d had a good lunch). Lots of constipation during the first trimester for all of them, luckily that went away in the second trimester.

If the scan showed a normal heartbeat, you’ve got a very good chance of a good outcome.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 05/12/2017 02:53

None with my Singleton pregnancy’s, terrible with the twins. Don’t worry.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 05/12/2017 07:10

Thanks so much all - I know no one can tell me what's going to happen to me personally, but it is comforting to see good outcomes with no nausea.

I'm 8+2 and don't have any sickness either.. completely agree with what you've said about the articles saying that means it's a 'healthy pregnancy' and you're unlikely to miscarry - even on the MN app!

I'm at the date now where I would have had my 2nd period so I'm taking that as a good sign - it's such a long time to wait until 12 weeks for concrete proof.

I do feel queasy and I gip quite a lot - brushing teeth is a nightmare and I cannot stand the thought of red meat anymore (even though it was my favourite before!). But then I don't know if I'm just making all this stuff up to make me feel better 🙈

HippyChickMama · 05/12/2017 09:30

I only had nausea with ds, was vomiting morning, noon and night with dd but neither started until 10 weeks. It's bhcg that maintains pregnancy and this hormone is responsible for sickness in pregnancy but everyone has different tolerance levels to the presence of it. Not everyone gets symptoms and there is time yet.

iggleypiggly · 05/12/2017 09:36

I had no sickness in my 4 pregnancies. Try and relax Flowers

Yes, I actually emailed MN just now because their advice is so unhelpful (and it made me feel like I was doing something helpful rather than just worrying about myself!). It says:

Try not to worry if you don't get morning sickness – and keep your fingers crossed that you don't develop it later on in pregnancy. So long as your doctor says your hormone levels are fine, consider yourself as having had a lucky escape!

Which is naff all use/reassurance for UK women, who are very, very unlikely to have had their hormone levels checked (go try asking your GP to do it because you don't feel sick and see how far you get!).

I did some maths with the figures in Expecting Better, which made me feel slightly better. She says that 30% of women with no nausea miscarried vs. 8% with - obviously that means that 70% of women with no nausea don't miscarry, and since 80% of women have it, that means that of women who miscarry it's about 50-50 whether or not they have nausea, so it's really not the simplistic 'if you have it you won't miscarry and if you don't you almost certainly will' that so many of these articles imply.
