2003 babies

Just back from my 12 (apparently really 13) week scan with lovely photos to prove that the baby really is there and not just a figment of my imagination! I am due in early January-ish - any other 2003 babies due? Another surprise baby but without the hyperemisis that had me hospitalised for the best part of 4 months the last time (don't know what that says about the sex??). Now the hard part - telling work - I had just accepted a promoted post when I found out - I decided not to tell until I had the scan & told family/friends but the moment has arrived...

Hi Harrysmum, I am due on 8th Jan and have just have my nuchal scan too.
My departure on maternity leave will coincide with the longest-serving member of my team taking retirement, which is an additional factor I have to consider...never straightforward, is it? Congratulations!

Congratulations Harrysmum, I'm due on 29/12/02, so almost qualify, I had my nuchal scan 3 weeks ago, did you get yours on the NHS? I had to go to the fetal medicine centre in London (which was fab, and not that expensive so I didn't mind paying, but it's another example of the NHS lottery isn't it)

Hi - nice to know that there are others. Marina - I have been followng your difficulties and fingers crossed for plain sailing. My 12 week scan was just an ultrasound and a routine part of ante-natal care here (NE Scotland) rather than a nuchal scan which will be followed by the 16 week blood test and a 20 week anomaly scan. I'm not sure what they would offer "on the side" or privately but I guess that only comes out if there are problems.

Had my nuchal scan last night - it was so amazing! Results came out very favourably, so I'm pleased about that. Baby kept wriggling around but everything showed up so clearly - got perfect pictures of each hand! I had mine done privately as they don't do nuchal scans on the NHS in my area (Hants) but it was worth every penny! Have another routine scan at about 17 weeks I think, so I'm looking forward to that one to. Good luck to everyone else!

How are all you "2003" mum's doing? I had my dating scan today which showed that everything was fine. Wouldn't tell me the sex of the baby though, which was quite disappointing. Still, at least I've got plenty of time yet to get all DD's old stuff washed and sorted out, ready for No2 just in case it's a girl!

Just out of interest, has anyone had any experience of St Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth? This is where I'm having no 2, but have heard conflicting stories about the state of the hospital and the care provided.

Durr, I've just created another thread about this, what a twit. Put it down to hormones and fatigue...

Hi, Whats a nuchal scan?

It's an ultrasound scan to detect whether the baby has down's syndrome. Not sure of the exact ins and outs of it, but it's got something to do with measuring the amount of fluid at the back of the baby's head. The scan has to be done between weeks 11-14 of pregnancy.

Report

bossykate · 26/09/2002 18:18

ooh, sorry, katmam, it does not detect whether the baby has down's but merely gives an indication of risk of downs, therefore gives an indication of whether further definitive - but potentially risky - testing (e.g. amnio or cvs) is advisable.

sorry, did not mean to be rude, but wouldn't want to give women the idea that they will get a definitive result from a nuchal scan.

Not at all, Bossykate - thanks for correcting me. (sorry been away for the weekend, hence delay!)

Thought I would join in and share my news. I am 19wks with my second. Currently have a boy aged 15mths. Baby is due 21/2/03. I have already been for my 12wk scan which turned out to be a shock when they told me I was 17+wks gone. Due my 20wk scan next week. Dh and myself have decided we don't want to know the sex. Hope you are all feeling well.

How are all you 2003 mum's to be getting on? Hope everyone is doing OK and not feeling too down about this awful weather we seem to be having at the moment! Hey ho, it's nearly Christmas - that should cheer everyone up!!

Hi

31 wks now and doing fine; counting down the weeks until maternity leave (4 wks today!) though. Vv tired - combination of anaemia, aleep apnoea (acc to dh who was kept awake all last night as I kept stopping breathing for prolonged spells) and having a very lively 2 yo. We went to see pre-school this morning - time does fly and soon there will be another in nursery! At least we have agreed on a name (if not the spelling) in advance of him being born this time - it does make it seem more real. How is everyone else?

Hello - not as far on as some of you - I am 25 weeks and due at the end of Feb. Still a bit sick in the mornings and very low blood presure which is causing problames when dealing with ds who is a feisty 19 months and doesn't understand when mummy hasn't got the energy to throw him around. I'm told the low blood pressure may be a sign of a girl - isn't it amazing how everyone loves to predict what you are having!! Seeing as I really don't mind I'm happy for speculation either way and excited for a surprise. Hope everyone is well.

Hello again! How is everyone doing? (Seem to keep asking that question!) I can hardly believe that I've only got 5 week to go now, and got dd's 2nd birthday and Christmas coming up beforehand.

Harrysmum - just noticed you are from NE Scotland - I used to live in Peterhead and Aberdeen! Are you anywhere near there?

Mog · 03/12/2002 17:48

Didn't realise this thread was here. I'm due in February and am now 30 weeks. Starting to feel the strain now of having a bump and lifting an 18 month old - anyone else feel like this? Last time, with my first, now seems like a doddle-all those afternoons lying on the couch while on maternity leave!!!

Report

katmam · 04/12/2002 11:42

Mog - yes, I feel exactly the same! DD is 2 (on Sunday!) and weighs about 2 stone to boot! I find the worst thing getting her in and out of her car seat. But the good thing is that she likes to walk everywhere, so I have to make myself walk slowly when we go out instead of my usual rushing around and making myself feel uncomfortable! Second time is harder I think, as you've got no.1 to look after, but imo it's gone more quickly this time round (mind you, I'm sure these last 5 weeks will drag by just like last time!)

JoPat · 04/12/2002 16:47

Second baby due on 21/2/03. Dd is 15 months and also feeling the strain. Dh and I wanted to know the sex of bump but local Glasgow hospital doesn't give any extra scans after the 12 week scan unless there is a problem. Very annoyed as other hospitals in the surrounding area do.

Harrysmum · 05/12/2002 10:33

Hi

Katman - we must be due at pretty much the same time (5 weeks today). I live in Aberdeen and stop work tomorrow (not soon enough!!). Having ds1 definitley makes this time seem much more tiring. Have dh in plaster isn't helping either! However, we move house in 7 weeks which is very exciting (all the way round the corner). Baby could be early (ds1 was) - already measuring 38cm but they now think breech so in for a scan on Monday. Slightly paranoid about the implications but I guess not a vast amount can be done.

Hi Harrysmum. I've just seen this discussion for the first time. I am due on 10th January, but heard yesterday that my baby is breech and that I'll probably have to have a caesarian about a week earlier. I thought this would be fine, and then burst into tears. I don't even know why. One friend says that she was actually in more pain from stitches after a 'natural' childbirth with her first than she was after a caesarian with her second. Hope this is some comfort!

katmam · 09/12/2002 15:46

Harrysmum - how did the scan go today? Hope everything is OK. You are very brave moving house 2 weeks after giving birth (if all goes according to plan!) I'm due 11th January but hoping to be a little early (don't know why, just feeling a bit frustrated at the moment, not sleeping properly and racing around after dd). I shall be ceilidhing (sp?! - I should know how to spell that!) at Hogmanay for sure!
