Is there any pregnant women that keep thinking negative and horrible thoughts that sends them into a panic attack

It's part of perinatal OCD/anxiety. I didn't have it in pregnancy, but I did have it after birth. It can be really upsetting and anxiety-producing. I would speak to your GP or midwife as it does put you at greater risk for postnatal mental health issues.

BigBaboonBum · 20/11/2017 18:10

It’s called intrusive thoughts, a form of OCD. I used to suffer from it but now I only seem to get it when I’m pregnant. Best thing to do is distract yourself... sounds weird but I found googling random things or browsing Wikipedia helps

fia101 · 20/11/2017 18:31

Yep - I’m convinced something will go/will be wrong.

thingymaboob · 20/11/2017 18:43

I was referred to mental health services by my midwife and I'm currently having some intensive CBT. It's awful. Please get some help. I'm worried about everything. I am obsessed and have lots of intrusive thoughts.

Relaxing2 · 20/11/2017 19:12

Are any of you pregnant too what is it your thinking

Yes, found the best thing when I had them was to literally say out loud “Oh that’s funny thought”. If I paid them any attention, then I’d soon become fixated on them and in turn very distressed.

thingymaboob · 20/11/2017 23:45

I'm 32 weeks. My obsessive thoughts:

  1. I will get toxoplasmosis ...all food and surfaces are contaminated with toxoplasmosis
  2. I have contracted HIV / HEP C from someone I resuscitated in the street 12 weeks ago (there was no blood).
  3. I will drop baby down stairs and kill them
  4. the baby's neck will break
  5. a stranger will punch / kick / stab my bump
  6. the baby will be born deaf / blind
  7. I will die during labour

There are lots of others too but those are main ones. I'm having lots of therapy.

DeadDoorpost · 21/11/2017 00:44

40+2 weeks here...

1)that I'll have a still birth.
2) that I'll bleed to death during Labour
3) that DH is actually having an affair when I know for a fact he's not and he's totally still attracted to me but i cant help it.
4) I go over and over ridiculous hypothetical arguments with various family members in my head that won't ever happen but again I can't help it. All to do with the baby.
5) I'm never going to actually have the baby and that somehow I've managed to convince myself and everyone who's seen the scans in real life etc that I'm pregnant.
6) there's going to be some sort of horrific facial deformity despite the scans saying otherwise. (Although this one stems from not being able to cope well with special effects makeup etc and seeing first-hand what some deformities are like). Not that that should be an excuse but there was a guy I knew from sight who terrified me when j was younger because he had no nose from either cancer or sniffing too many drugs we never found out which one. For some reason I can't shake the image away from my baby.

thingymaboob · 21/11/2017 07:28

@DeadDoorpost I sympathise! Hyperemesis doesn't help either.

Penguin27 · 21/11/2017 07:49

Yes, me Sad sometimes I'm fine but some days I just have very intrusive thoughts that I just can't stop. Even on the same day as scans when I've been reassured everything is ok, I can be very distressed just hours later over some unfounded worry.

I'd really suggest speaking to your midwife and/or GP, relaxing. They'll be able to support you and get you the right help to stop you feeling like this.

I'm due to start CBT in a couple of weeks. For those going through it, please could you let me know what to expect?

Relaxing2 · 21/11/2017 09:26

Me me! God the intrusive thoughts I have...I can’t stop them. I must have thought of thought of the worst case scenario every day since I found out I was pregnant. I don’t know if I can give any as I but just wanted you to know you are not alone xx

Relaxing2 · 21/11/2017 11:44

How far are you

OP posts:
EmmaHealy23 · 21/11/2017 12:03

Relaxing2 I’m 22+3 and have felt this way literally since the day I found out which feels like it was a lifetime ago. All traces of ‘me’ and being care free seem a lifetime ago.

How far along are you? Xx

Relaxing2 · 21/11/2017 12:31

Emma I'm 20+5 days Hun I feel like I'm going crazy Hun does anybody kno how you feel or do you keep it to yourself xx

OP posts:
EmmaHealy23 · 21/11/2017 12:50

.Relaxing2 yeah I made the mistake of telling a few of my work colleagues...not a mistake I’ll make again. They both think I’m a complete nut case, it’s really affected our relationship and tbh I think I’ll end up moving jobs because of it.

My DH & Mum know how I feel and are supportive but I think sometimes feel like I’m ruining this whole experience for him.

Do you have people to talk to? Xx

Relaxing2 · 21/11/2017 13:09

Yea my mum knows how I feel is there anyway we can chat privately I'd like to keep in contact with you as I'm really struggling

Hi, I had very similar issues in my 2nd pregnancy and it was crippling.

In the end I paid for private hypnotherapy, which was a real live saver. I also found yoga nidra videos on you tube very helpful for switching my brain off.

I was worried about the post natal period, but I was much better once the LO arrived!

EmmaHealy23 · 21/11/2017 13:31

Relaxing2 of course, would be lovely to keep in touch and help each other along. It’s always good to have a friend. I’m a bit new to Mumsnet so I’m not sure how the PM thing works? I’d assume there would be a way to do it x

Relaxing2 · 21/11/2017 13:39
