Hey.

Just back from midwife appointment and I'm measuring 3 weeks behind, there's been no change in my bump since my last appointment.

I've also been very damp and needing liners plus the midwife said my bump was really tight/solid...which I completely agree with as it's been uncomfortable and a little sore for a week or so. (I put it down to BH and my SPD)

Midwife is concerned that my fluid could be reduced?

So I'm now sat at home waiting on the hospital calling me... DP at work so I'm kinda twiddling my thumbs. Midwife has asked hospital for a scan today but advised me it could be early tomorrow morning.

Baby is moving fine, if anything movement has been more pronounced in the last week. I can now visually see the whole bump move. Plus the HB is OK, higher than last time but still in range.

I'm 36 weeks, measuring 33 weeks. Last time I was checked I was 33+1 week and measuring 33 weeks dead on. Bump has always been "right" size give or take a day or two. At 30 weeks baby measured 2lbs 8oz on a fluid scan (I was in a accident so got checked) and fluid was "great"... Was told then that they'd expect baby to be 3lbs+ by then but they weren't concerned.

I think I'm just asking for a hand hold until DP gets home... (I can't even call anyone as need to keep the line free) What happens with reduced fluid or small baby at these scans? (My brain went off at my appointment)

Don’t wait, call your local maternity assessment unit and get seen today

OnNaturesCourse · 26/10/2017 16:31

I'll call them if it gets worse, I'm very dry just now.. C

Might just sleep until tomorrow morning now Sad

Hulaballoo · 26/10/2017 16:42

I would still call and go in even if you're dry... You really won't get a wink of sleep tonight if you're in limbo...xx

bigfatbumfreak · 26/10/2017 16:44

I had what i though was leakage, but it was excess. Vaginal fluid.

My midwife sniffed the pad, gross, she said amniotic had a definite smell.

OnNaturesCourse · 26/10/2017 17:13

Yeah, been told it's a sweet smell, very sweet so I've to sniff my pads Envy

I didn't sleep last night due to the discomfort in my stomach either, I just don't want to be seen as making a drama after they've said they'll see me tomorrow.

DP is home, so I feel better but I can tell he's pretty concerned too just trying to keep me calm.

Ons I’m with you and keeping everything crossed. This is the last thing you need. Massive hugs.

Why didn’t she check your cervix then? Hopefully so done will know. Have you had anything that would look like a show?

Mustang27 · 26/10/2017 17:21

Maybe call triage tell them what’s going on and say you are uncomfortable, hopefully they can hook you up to a monitor and get the ball rolling. Don’t take no for an answer. How’s babies movements still increased/pronounced?

notapizzaeater · 26/10/2017 17:28

Can you phone up the assessment unit and ask to be checked tonight ?

OnNaturesCourse · 26/10/2017 18:33

Hey.

She said my cervix would be checked at a day assessment Ward if the scan came back with anything. I've been losing my plug for a while, apparently it can regrow ? No big "show" however, just the crazy dampness which ironically has stopped this evening.

My whole pelvis and back hurt tonight so I'm off for a warm bath. Just need to relax I think. My bump is still solid around bottom and sides but has eased in the middle slightly.

Bump is still very pronounced when moving.

Just want to say thank you to you all, forum has really helped me today.

Op I hope all is ok tomorrow at your scan however as others have said if you are at all concerned please phone the maternity ward I went twice when heavily pregnant both occasions were pains or little movement from my DC they hooked me up on the monitor and all was well my DC is now 6 months old but they won’t have a go or be annoyed you’ve gone in fact they always encourage you to get it checked than to sit at home worrying maybe even just give them a call just hearing some re assuring words from a midwife can help calm you

All the best

Mustang27 · 26/10/2017 18:53

I didn’t get a big show just the occasional snotty wipe (sorry tmi). Ons if you need reassurance phone your triage trust your own instincts. My friends waters had broke 5 days prior to her taking quite ill and then realising that she should have been taken in on the day she had said to her community midwife that she had thought her waters had gone, mw said wasn’t sweet enough smelling or enough fluid to be her waters it was. Things can be missed/not glaringly obvious.

OnNaturesCourse · 26/10/2017 19:30

Of course.

My MW said it would be concerning if the dampness was my waters as it's been going on so long. Plus I'm running hot to the touch, but she didn't my temperature or anything, just said my bump was roasting.

I know what you mean with the plug, it's like wiping jelly. Not nice and quite startling when it first happens.

My first came at 36 weeks, my second at 37 weeks both after slowly leaking amniotic fluid and both are pictures of health (no problems with feeding, breathing, early or later development btw) so don’t be afraid to be pushy as I also found the level of care/type of advice varied enormously from one midwife to another

Mustang27 · 26/10/2017 20:28

My friend went in with a raised temp that’s what her symptoms were and they discovered it was her front waters and by a head was pressed against her cervix. They induced her and all was ok but if it had gone on longer she and baby could have become ill. Sorry I’m not being alarmist it just sounds really familiar.

That’s exactly what I meant ons. Honestly I’d just go in when did you first leak?

PhuntSox · 26/10/2017 20:39

I think you should phone the labour ward with a clear list of symptoms, starting with the leaking waters and hot to touch.

makemyminduptime · 26/10/2017 20:49

If you're concerned, do call the hospital, they'll see you at any time.

My community midwife really worried me at about 33 weeks by saying I was measuring small, she said I was smaller than the previous measurement 2 weeks before. I had to wait a few days before getting a scan at the hospital as it was a Friday. The outcome was that the baby was fine and weight was fine but I had reduced fluid. I was told to rest as much as possible. Apparently resting and putting your feet up can increase your fluid up to 40%! I went back 2 weeks later and they were happy with everything, don't want to see me again until due date unless any problems.

The one thing they kept saying to me was to call them immediately if I had reduced movement, that's one of the main ways to keep an eye on how baby is doing.

sacgonflable · 26/10/2017 20:55

excess leaking + bump small + feeling hot + pain...i would call triage for advice. they might want to see you to monitor your baby. trust your instincts.

guineapig1 · 26/10/2017 20:55

I agree with PhuntSox, please go in to maternity triage/labour ward this evening and demand to be seen tonight. If you are not feeling assertive take someone with you - DH/partner/mother/mother-in-law/sister/friend- it doesn't matter who - basically someone who can inisist on your behalf. The dampness and temperature suggest an infection risk so please please go. 36 weeks, even measuring small is not that tiny in the grand scheme of things but you need to get you both checked out tonight x

OnNaturesCourse · 26/10/2017 21:58

Sorry, just been for a bath to try and ease my back and hip pain.

My bump isn't solid or sore now, perhaps baby has shifted positions finally? Just kinda feels very full. Just going to get thermometer and see what my temp is as I see you all mentioning infection... My bump was hot to th touch earlier but seems pretty ok now. Can you have a normal temp with an infection??

I've sworn to myself if I have another painful night like last night (still awake and on all fours at 3am) I will go up and get checked, same if I have a temp.

I'm very anxious about tomorrow but I have chilled out a little now, and I'm still getting kicks and jabs.

Does anyone know, or know where I can find, what the fluid levels should be at the different stages? Looked at my notes earlier and it said something like 18cms at 30 weeks, and I'd like to have a idea of what they are going to look for tomorrow.

Interesting about the 40% increase when resting, I was a little stressed before my appointment and running around late... I wonder if that contributed!

OnNaturesCourse · 26/10/2017 22:03

Mustang.... I've had increased discharge along with mucus for easily a month but the dampness I'd say has been a week or so but on and off. Some days are ok, others my pants are soaked before I reach the bathroom in the morning to put a liner in. Some days it's sweat enough to smell through me still wearing pants, other days there is no smell. No consistency to it at all.

OP posts:
GreenGoblin0 · 26/10/2017 22:25

@OnNaturesCourse hope you get things sorted tomorrow

Just to add - measuring of bumps is not an exact science and two midwives may come up with a different measurement. I was sent for a growth scan with my first baby when I was measured by a different midwife - I see you have a new midwife so this could be relevant.

TeaandHobnobs · 26/10/2017 22:40

Another one who says just go. Call maternity triage and list all your symptoms. SO much better to go and be checked and monitored and it turn out to hopefully be nothing. But let the hospital decide that.
I know we all hate to make a fuss, etc., but you don't win any prizes for sitting around at home worrying!
PLEASE call them

makemyminduptime · 26/10/2017 22:43

I'm 37 weeks now and think my level is around 9cm, the usual for this stage is 8-18cm. It does naturally decrease as your pregnancy progresses. They didn't seem too worried, said it was low but still in the acceptable range.

OnNaturesCourse · 26/10/2017 22:51

I just think if they were concerned I would have been sent right up, midwife tried to get it this day but did say it could be in the morning.

I've never once been seen by the same midwife more than once on the trott! But yes, this is a completely new district too so she could have measured differently plus baby is starting to engage so I guess will have dropped?

Baby wriggling around just now, pushing my belly button out when they cross my stomach... Grosses DP out.
