Finished work yesterday for maternity leave at 36w pregnant Grin feel really exhausted and last few weeks at work were really stressful trying to get projects handed over.
I have a list as long as my arm for things that need doing around the house (odd jobs, cleaning, sorting DIY stuff) but I'd love some more interesting ideas!

What did you do on mat leave before baby arrived that you were really glad you did?

I washed all of the babies clothes and sorted them all out. I also cleaned the house within an inch of its life! Another thing I am really glad we did was fill the freezer with lots of easy and quick teas, we really welcomed that when the baby arrived as I was poorly. And lastly I stocked up on cleaning products etc so I had everything!

GreenGoblin0 · 21/10/2017 16:17

Had my hair cut and slept a lot haven't done with either since (6 months pp)!

Sakura03 · 21/10/2017 16:19

Hi pomadas I too finished work yesterday, I'm 37 weeks on Monday. I plan to wash all the baby clothes, clean and cook. I'm going to get a haircut and would love a massage so might look into that. I'd welcome other ideas too😊

Go to the cinema
Lie in the bath alone

AssassinatedBeauty · 21/10/2017 16:21

Go to the cinema without needing a babysitter, sleep, haircut or similar.

SquareWord · 21/10/2017 16:21

Sleep, get your haircut, sleep, go out for meals with your partner, sleep, catch up with old friends, sleep, enjoy deciding to go somewhere and being able to leave the house almost immediately, sleep!

Bobbins43 · 21/10/2017 16:22

Go the cinema. Take baths. Go out for walks whenever you feel like it. Have hot cups of tea that stay hot whilst you finish them. Maybe get out to a museum or a gallery? Practically, batch cooking as much as you can or getting ready meals in is a good plan. Things like long life milk too.

GinIsIn · 21/10/2017 16:23

Plan which box sets to watch when you aren't getting any sleep, stock the freezer, find out the details of your nearest drop in centre, breast feeding support, HV clinic. Learn how to put the car seat in the car and the pram up and down. Get a load of extra large sandwich bags, and bag up whole outfits for both the baby and for you, so that when you are struggling to shower and get dressed in the morning you have everything to hand.

Thiswitcheshatisnotmine · 21/10/2017 16:24

Haircut, long baths, those types of restaurants and bars with food that you just know you can't take a pushchair into. Try daytime naps too. I only ever nap when very pregnant or have a migraine. But oh how I want to nap with a small baby!

LazyDaisy6 · 21/10/2017 16:24

Haircut and sleep. As PP have said my DS is now 7 months and I've done neither since! Grin

pomadas87 · 21/10/2017 16:49

Thanks everyone! Haircut is a great idea, and will definitely do some batch cooking.
I don't mind going to the cinema on my own so will definitely do that this week during the daytime!

Yep cinema and haircut are on my list too. DD arrived early so I had no time to do anything last time. Hoping the baby holds on a bit this time and I can have some chill out time on the days DD is in nursery.

niceandspicey · 21/10/2017 16:53

Make thank you cards ready for when baby arrives and you get inundated with gifts Smile

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 21/10/2017 16:54

Cinema. Haircut. Pedicure. Read a book. Catch up with friends.

AssassinatedBeauty · 21/10/2017 16:58

If you have anyone's birthday around your due date or first few weeks with baby, then you could organize cards and presents, wrap and get them ready for posting or handing over in advance.

Ijustlovefood · 21/10/2017 17:02

Mind how you go. My baby arrived at 36weeks.

CatsCatsCats11 · 21/10/2017 17:04

Don't cut your hair to short ... it's about to fall out Grin

TerrifyingFeistyCupcake · 21/10/2017 20:02

Went for long walks. Sat in coffee shops. Went to the gym. Cooked like a maniac, baked and filled the freezer. Took afternoon naps.

KalaLaka · 21/10/2017 20:04

If you're planning to breastfeed, read The womanly art of breastfeeding. Look on kellymom and la leche league websites.

Its more what I didn't do.

I wish I had totally totally decluttered my house within an inch of its life, then it wouldnt have all seemed so overwhelming.

Same with baby clothes. Less is more.

Biscuitsneeded · 21/10/2017 21:36

Can't believe nobody has said that you should read a really good book. It doesn't matter if your house isn't beautifully painted, or if there's clutter. But for the next 18 months at the very least you won't be able to sit and read a book. I would do that now!

Algebraic · 21/10/2017 21:45

I got my hair cut and coloured as knew I wouldn't have time after. Batch cooked and froze about 30 portions of meals (absolute lifesaver). Washed and sorted baby clothes and readied the nursery. Slept - a lot.

Algebraic · 21/10/2017 21:46

Oh and pack your hospital bag! Baby could arrive anytime from now :)

pomadas87 · 21/10/2017 22:10

algebraic yes need to finish that too... that's a whole other thread though!
