Do I really need a Moses basket?

If not, what else do I use whilst I'm pottering?
What do I put him down in whilst we are downstairs?

Don't fancy using his carry cot from the pram

MIL is insistent I must have one.

What do you think?

I've got a 13 week old and I used the moses basket loads! He used it downstairs and also for nighttime in the early weeks as he found the Next To Me cot too big. Since about 6 weeks he spends more time in his Fisher Price Infant To Toddler and is currently having a snooze in it. I found that one good as it's really quite supportive, and he gradually became relaxed enough in it to sleep with a little bit of foot bouncing! No dreaded transfer from your chest to wherever you want them to sleep.

The last 2 or 3 weeks he is happiest on his playmat during awake time.

My dd was too long for one! So we never used one because she outgrew it in a couple of weeks and hated being put down. I used my prams detachable carry cot.

I have a baby box. Was free from the baby box co. Will use that downstairs when baby is here in a couple of weeks

I'm 8 mos in and also been thinking if I really need one. I heard some never really had one but I am thinking it could be very handy for many things.

What is a baby box??

I bring the sleepyhead downstairs and put LO in either that or the pram, swing or on activity mat.

Never had one, I find them pointless and quite ugly.

A bouncy chair is fine for daytime sleeps, or just a blanket wherever is convenient (as long as you don't have dogs/toddlers!). Don't leave them unattended in it - popping in and out is okay. You'll see if their heads flop down but IME bouncy chairs are very reclined, not like car seats. I also used a sling.

@n0ne really? I am kind of thinking that sounds genius! We're expecting DC1 in the next week or so and we've got a side sleeper for our bedroom and a cot in the nursery but we live in a three floor house and I can't realistically carry the side cot up and down two flights of stairs every day so I had been wondering about what to use downstairs. I'd thought using the carrycot from the pram would be one solution but your midwife's idea sounds pretty good! (My SiL keeps trying to force Sleepyheads on me but they're extortionate and actually having read research articles I'm not convinced they're wildly safe). Feeding pillow and changing mat we can do!

We've found it so handy. Can just pop DD on it on the sofa and she's so comfy and won't roll anywhere. Serves the same purpose as a Sleepyhead but cost nothing!

My two hated the Moses basket. DD napped on a blanket on the floor and DS either slept on me or occasionally in the lie back pram (he usually preferred to scream until held though)
