Which side sleeper?

Does anyone have either a snuzpod, a baby nest or a mother care Tutti bambini?

Or does anyone know whether any of them do up whilst attached to the bed- ie so I could put the baby to bed then leave the room if I needed to for a min without taking the whole thing off?
Any other advantages /disadvantages?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry I have been following this thread today as I'm looking into the Chicco next to me side cot, from previous posts I'm assuming you can't put the side up if the cot is attached to the bed?

We were also looking at the Tutti Bambini CoZee side crib which looked a good size. Does anyone have any experience of this crib? Smile

Mortigua · 01/10/2017 17:25

We have ikea malm so need to check if any will fit actually good point. I'm sure I Googled and found that it was possible but now can't remember which side sleeper that was...
Jumble I think upthread the bambini cozee was mentioned and they have stock issues due to it only being stocked by mother care. It does look a good size.

Thanks @Mortigua I saw it AFTER I posted and felt like a bit of a numpty Grin

Why is it such a hard decision?! We used a Moses basket for DD last time until she was 4 months old and went in her own room so ideally we'd like something bigger so baby number 2 can stay with us longer. Do you know if the graco side cot comes with the mattress? We didn't speak to a sales assistant properly today as we didn't have time and I didn't find out all of these things Blush

Mortigua · 01/10/2017 21:31

Don't worry its so hard to keep track of all these brand names and types of cot, I am going round in circles with it.
I'm not sure about the Graco, that must be another one I've not come across ( ph no more decisions !) The snuzpod seems to , I was looking at buying one second hand then getting a new mattress but it didn't seem worth it as the full price for both was £200 or less and they seem to be going second hand for £125 ish.

Does the malm have a lip around the edge? If that's the case then the chicco may be best.

Mortigua · 01/10/2017 21:51

Yes it does - will that be an issue for the others do you think ?

FleurWeasley · 01/10/2017 22:05

I only know about the snuzpod but that one has a hard edge so would butt up against the lip, leaving a gap between your mattress and the baby's (could be filled with a towel), whereas the shape of the chico's legs mean you could probably avoid it.

Mar15mite · 01/10/2017 22:21

I had a snuzpod, I wouldn't recommend it, never get like it was close enough to my mattress even when attached with the straps. I also found it super difficult to get in and out of bed with it attached after a section. Ended up just using it as a crib in my room (very expensive crib!)

Also you need to put steel rod in the side panel to keep it up properly so it's hardly convenient or quiet to put the side up and down.

Mortigua · 01/10/2017 22:23

Thank you both. Snuzpod is a definite no then, don't like the sound of that with our bed especially ! Suspect the bed nest would be the same too then!

Uptheduffy · 01/10/2017 22:32

I had a bednest. The side goes up, but as pp say you would need to have it down in the bed next to you when open. If they are still made the same the side folds in half so takes up less space. We ended up with the side folded down and then the bed attached to the nest - more comfy but couldn’t put the side back up without detaching it. Baby ended up basically sleeping with me anyway with the best as a side space.

Mortigua · 01/10/2017 22:36

Ok thanks. I am thinking looking at it it may not even work with my bed. Also need to be able to zip it up i think but I need to look to see how uncomfortable the side bit will be for me. Beginning to be swayed by the chicco newer model again

I've gone for the new chicco one for most of the reasons you're thinking of! We have a malm bed too which ruled out a few options, and I really wanted one which would allow me to put the side up/down easily in the night. It's arrived but I've not put it up yet to review!

Mortigua · 02/10/2017 09:45

Thanks Frisbee that's good to know! I'm struggling to work out which is the new chicco as some shops hae several with varying discounts- I'm guessing the most expensive ?!

This threads been so useful.

Just to make sure: if baby was asleep in bednest and my older dd came in to bed I'd want to close the bednest off. This isn't possible whilst it's attached to the bed? Sorry for being dense

dramallamakarma · 02/10/2017 09:56

I've got the tutti cozee but not used it yet, managed to get all the official bedding too eventually.

One of the main reasons we went for this one is that DH works away a lot & I tend to stay at my parents so this was best for us as it's easily transportable... some of the others not so much.

Just thought I'd add that in case anyone is in a similar situation or goes on holiday a lot!

Uptheduffy · 02/10/2017 12:30

redblackberries - if you use the side the way this woman in the picture is doing then yes you can put it up. (I thought the side folds over in the middle too unless that has changed)
I used to fold my down before I attached the cot to the bed as I preferred it that way and didn't leave him alone in there.

Which side sleeper?
RedBlackberries · 02/10/2017 13:10

Thanks. I'll stick at getting a bednest then.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 02/10/2017 13:46

Duffy and Blackberries : the bednest side used to hinge but they don't anymore due to a misuse of this feature causing a fatality.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 02/10/2017 13:46

Hinge in half, sorry, managed to miss out the relevant point!

mummabubs · 02/10/2017 17:27

We've gone with the Tutti Bambini but like Sophie upthread have had to tackle Mothercare's shoddy customer service and stocking issues in order to get one. We've managed to get the mattress protector but had to buy Snüzpod sheets that are a bit tight so I might edit them on the sewing machine! (They're still out of stock after nearly a month and estimated new stock is after our due date so we gave up waiting!)

Pluses for the Bambini that made us stick to our preference despite Mothercare!! are:

  • marginally cheaper than competitors' cribs
  • easy to transport (our in laws all live 3 hours away so needed something we could easily take home with us for Christmas/visits
  • well-designed with the optional tilt and you can also raise and lower the side while it's still attached to the bed... don't think the others do this?
  • much larger than the Snüzpod so we figured we might get more use from it
  • aesthetically more pleasing than other cribs in our opinion (minor but if I'm spending that much I'd like it to look homely!)

For what it's worth if anyone is thinking of ordering a side sleeper from Mothercare it's worth going to one of their parent-to-be events as you get 10% discount on the day.

Mortigua · 02/10/2017 19:03

Thanks mummabubs!
So you can open or close the side on the tutti bambini whilst it's attached as a side sleeper?
Now I need to find out whether it would work on our bed with the sides and also because it's so low. Maybe i need to pop into Mothercare.

Mortigua · 02/10/2017 19:12

Just looked and am pretty sure that the legs on the mother care one will be an issue with the side of our bed same as all of them I think other than the Chicco. So I need to look for the new version of the Chicco next to me which has a side that can be open or shut whilst in side sleep mode.

OP posts:
Mortigua · 02/10/2017 19:14

Hm although actually this seems to be saying that the bed nest would in fact be okay and it is open and closeable with it attached. I'm confusing myself here - may be a bit obsessed!
