baby sling like a coorie.

TrinityRhino · 03/04/2007 12:42

wouldn't they prefer welsh trainers?

what about cooking her a couple of meals she could put in the frezzer?

JARM · 03/04/2007 12:42

calpol
bonjela
earplugs

MrsBadger · 03/04/2007 12:43

trainers?

at least get an England babygrow that it might actually wear (if only when it's been sick on everything else)

margo1974 · 03/04/2007 12:43

Do not disturb, new mum sleeping! sign

chirpygirl · 03/04/2007 12:44

She has my wilkinet and a huggababy already.

The joke about the trainers is that DH and I are englisha nd live in wales with a welsh baby (she was born here) and they are the total opposite!
I shall get a welsh hat or something though, easier for me than them!

Earplugs is good!

My top tips for life with a newborn are technological:

  • a phone with a 'Do Not Disturb' feature. This allows you to screen out unwelcome calls from your MIL but allow your mum to contact you
  • a hard disk recorder, with many hundreds of hours of good-but-trash telly like SATC recorded on it. Then when you are pinned down with a refluxy newborn who can't sleep flat, you can while away the hours lying on the sofa and not risk disturbing baby by getting up to change the DVD.

Not sure you will want to put either of those in your survival kit but you might want to suggest them to your friend!

I'm with MrsB re: the trainers. Babygro yes but why would a newborn wear trainers?

JolieGirl · 03/04/2007 12:49

god yes i agree about the meals to go in the freezer, that was the SINGLE most brilliant thing people did for us after we had DS

MrsBadger · 03/04/2007 12:50

Lansinoh?

Flamesparrow · 03/04/2007 12:51

Oh they do gorgeous wales rugby sleepsuits - get one of em!!

JolieGirl · 03/04/2007 12:52

What about some made up vouchers that she can 'cash' in over the next few weeks ie for you to do some ironing for her, babysit, clean the house etc etc.

MrsBadger · 03/04/2007 12:53

where, Flamey, where?

(need one for Welsh Jewish Chinese Australian baby due in the summer)

JolieGirl · 03/04/2007 12:53

and please do not get any sports related clothing - a total waste of money & she will not put her baby in them.

One word - pikey

EllieKthePA · 03/04/2007 12:56

ok, chirpygirl has already said that she lives in wales and her friend in england, so meals and offers of help are no good.

she's also already said that the trainers came with a babygro that her dd had so she's not going out to buy them, just sending them as a joke.

i'd go with the suggestions of calpol, bonjela, infacol, lanisoh, earplugs, refreshing eyedrops, that kind of thing.

Flamesparrow · 03/04/2007 12:58

here

Flamesparrow · 03/04/2007 12:59

Jolie - Some people do dress their children in sports wear (a lot judging by the clothes bought for DS ). Sleepsuit sports wear is different somehow too... mainly due to its staying in bed-ness!

MrsBadger · 03/04/2007 13:02

oh terrific, thanks flamey!
(Now to find an Aussie one to console the mother...)

Bodkin · 03/04/2007 13:05

New-born soother/dummy. Whether they are for or against them doesn't matter - there is a good chance that at 3.00am one morning they will go frantically rooting through your basket of gifts searching for it!

Flamesparrow · 03/04/2007 13:08

dunno if they ship UK

JolieGirl · 03/04/2007 13:12

Flame I agree, we got SO much sports related clothing when we had our little boy - DH is a HUGE rugby, golf, football fan and people seemed to think it was a perfect gift therefore to spend loads on related clothing to create a mini DH! I could just never bring myself to put DS in them, bed time or day time, I just think they look awful and they are now gathering dust somewhere totally unworn

MrsBadger · 03/04/2007 13:22

(NB Flame, any chance you could look at a dull dull nappy thread ?)
