So, I am putting one together for my friends...so far we have

Soft baby rattle
England trainers (it is a Welsh baby living in England...)
Haynes baby manual
Strong instant coffee
Travel mug for above so it can be drunk while BFing
Camomile Tea
Big Bar of Chocolate
Eye mask for sleeping in daytime
Hand cream
A book
CD of relaxing classical music
Ashtons powders

Anything else?!

Thanks for suggestions, as EllieK said we live 350 miles apart so practical help is not possible, hence the joke box.

(Oh, and thanks for calling me a pikey for passing on a pair of teeny trainers/booties as a joke! I know a lot of non pikey parents that have wales/england outfits for rugby/football matches...it's funny!)

my ds has a mini arsenal shirt because he asked 'to have one like daddy'. doesn't make me a pikey

chirpygirl · 03/04/2007 19:13

I dunno Elli, I mean it's an Arsenal shirt !

EllieKthePA · 03/04/2007 19:55

not my choice, believe me

tho seeing as my local teams are Ipswich and Norwich, and my dad supports Charlton, i'm not sure which would be preferable

chirpygirl · 03/04/2007 20:10

Think yourself lucky, I had a choice of Villa or Coventry growing up.....!

auntymandy · 03/04/2007 21:33

what I would like in my survival kit :

Bubble bath
Breast pads
part exchange on my teenagers to turn them in to very helpful ones.
Dim light bulb for night time feeds.
cream to stop the lines forming, from smiling at my lovely new baby.
Someone to take endless photo's of us all.
And vivitors to tell me how wonderful I look!!

chirpygirl · 04/04/2007 08:36

Light bulb!
That's genius, I even have a nightlight in my room for the same reason and had forgotten!

Anyone else got any ideas?

Tumble drier
Hair straighteners/hair band
Pizza express Sloppy Guiseppe pizzas in freezer
Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon blanc
Green & black organic milk chocolate
Fruit

mum2george · 15/04/2007 11:32

Don't think she will really need the eyemask! On the few occasions DS would let me sleep in the day I was just so exhausted I didn't care about the sunshine.

Like the idea of the England trainers!

And what are Ashton's Powders?

The only other things I can think of are more chocolate, think industrial quantities, and some meals in the freezer.

Think the whole thing is such a lovely idea though, she's lucky to have you as a friend.

Oh, and one last slightly weird thing, pegs! We had to ask as friend to bring some more one day as we hadn't got enough for the huge amount of washing DS was producing.

PregnantGrrrl · 15/04/2007 12:08

breast pads
maternity sanitary pads
cereal bars, yogurts in fridge
lots of water
gin & pate
tumble dryer
nipple cream and ibuprofen
nice bath stuff

i needed (and loved) them all.

bettythebuilder · 15/04/2007 12:21

posh new dressing gown
heavy duty sanitary towels, and lots of 'em
I've seen 'flat pack' vases that pop up to hold all the flowers your friend will get that she won't know where to put!
baby feed wheel/ medicine wheel

PurpleLostPrincess · 15/04/2007 12:22

I'd go with Infacol and Metanium (yellow nappy rash cream that is like magic!)

BabyMadwithBump · 15/04/2007 13:39

Loads of: Nappies, baby milk, ST's and breast pad's, so if I didnt want to go out didnt have too!

foxybrown · 15/04/2007 13:46

blue cheese (am craving it!), champagne
lansinoh cream
infacol
some nice cotton pants (lovely after disposable knickers!)

daisyhun · 15/04/2007 13:51

I'm doing the same for my friend after just having had a baby myself 12 weeks ago and have so far got:

Muslin squares
Jar of vaseline (to protect little bum for nappy rash)
Cotton wool balls
Nappy sacks
White newborn size short sleeved vests and sleepsuits
Newborn dummy (Avent do ones with covers to keep them clean - FAB)
Big size disposable knickers (you always need them about 3 sizes too big)
Massive maternity pads
Bottle of infacol
Bottle of olive oil (great to rub into newborn's skin after bath)
Breast pads and lansinoh (as someone has already suggested)
Nursery thermometer
Small cellular blanket from Mothercare
Paracetamol

And a BIG bar of chocolate!

chirpygirl · 15/04/2007 14:09

So I sent it yesterday..our 'rules' were...nothing she would buy herself (bottles, dummies, vests etc' and stuff she wouldn't think of needing so they have...

Big Bar of chocolate ? helps your milk supply (honestly!)
Mamaflage ? prototype from new company, put over your head like a poncho to latch him on when you are in public, then you can take it off when you are all arranged
Eye Mask ? for napping 'when baby naps'
Strong and Chamomile tea ? for waking up and going to sleep
Travel Mug ? so you can drink hot drinks while holding the baby
Coffee sachets ? instant for speed
Haynes manual ? just in case
Other people's money ? Pre -release copy of a new book
Lightbulbs ? dim lightbulbs for bedside table for night changes and feeding.
Handcream ? for the incessant handwashing you will be doing!
Dungarees
Spotty Book
Anbesol teething liquid ? works like a charm
Doggie Playday book
Chamomile Tea ? Soak some fleece/towelling in tea and put in nappy for bad nappy rash
Ashtons Parsons powders ? For grumpy belly while teething
Sound Asleep CD ?
Rattle
England Trainers

I would have sent brie and stilton but didn't trust royal mail to get it there before it started talking.....

OP posts:
foxybrown · 15/04/2007 14:39

intrigued by Mamaflage!

i found that champagne, choc, strawberries and OJ gave mine wind just to warn you ... but I guess that's what infacols for!

will you be my friend Chirpygirl - you sound nice!!

chirpygirl · 15/04/2007 18:56

Of course, Foxy! Don't expect a pressie like that though! I was humiliated at the post office...I had a tenner and asked how much it would be, and the woman said' well, parcelpost is £8 something and first class is £11 something, so 1st class then? There's not that much difference...' and I had to admit I couldn't afford it

The mamaflage is a mini poncho type thing I tried for a woman who is starting to manufacture it, it's great for latching on a nosy baby as it all goes dark for them, and you can expose everything and then rearrange at your leasure, then whip it off...I loved it!

chirpygirl · 15/04/2007 19:01

Curry gave mine awful wind, but that IS what infacol is for! I certainly wasn't going to stop eating curry having only just got rid of the damn heartburn

OP posts:
Bodkin · 15/04/2007 20:05

Well done - that sounds like a lovely pressie. Love the sound of the "Mamaflage" (ace name too) specially when they get to about 4/5 months and they keep pulling off to look round at the slightest noise or movement. Where can I see one?

MadamePlatypus · 15/04/2007 20:19

Big fleece blanket - great for snuggling under when breastfeeding, or for collapsing on bed for a nap - or maybe a cotton throw would be better in summer?

Subscription to Heat/Heat magazine - pictures so much easier than reading!

Big over sized box to put baby mementoes in.

travel mug is a great idea.

chirpygirl · 15/04/2007 22:19

It isn't being sold yet, as far as I know she has the patent and is in the process of setting up her website, shall make sure I post on here when she does!
