Just interested to know the reasons as to why you found out or why you didn't find out?

Currently 20 weeks pregnant and having long standing debate with DP!!!

I'd like to know people's reasons as to why or why not xxx

Having a baby emerge from my body is enough of a surprise for one day so I wanted to know. Plus we wanted to agree a name in advance.

Ah you're taking your vocabulary from the Daily Record!
That explains it Smile

We found out at 20 weeks with our ds, first baby and we were so excited to know that when they offered to tell us we couldn't resist, we didn't tell anyone else. We had his name chosen and it made him so real for us it was just lovely knowing. Congratulations!!

Three reasons i found out:

My ds was adamant he was having a brother so we wanted to give him time before the birth to manage feelings around his expectations.

Just as importantly, i had antenatal depression with my first pregnancy and was starting with it quite severely with this pregnancy. My hopes were that finding out would enhance the bond between us as a family to try and combat this, in addition to other things.

It's been delightful finding out for us and I'm still just as excited to meet her ten weeks since the anomaly scan 😊

We didn't find out, much to the horror of my dh family who have always found out and think it's strange that we didn't. You can't change it so I thought it was nice to wait and have a surprise after the labour - I am absolutely terrified to give birth so it gives an added incentive to get on with it!

  1. Need to decide on a name, eliminating 50% of the options helps.
  2. I want to know
  3. I have the rest of the child's life to be surprised by them
  4. I need to buy the appropriate colour clothes (just kidding, the second one gets the hand me downs no matter what!)
