For bottle fed babies. Which bottles. I'm torn between two

Torn between tommie tippe nature ones or avent nature ones.
I see lots with TT. However a couple have said theyre not as good as avent. But others said they r brill.
I had the avent classic with DS and loved them.
I doubt I'll BF as I worry too much in public or even with family etc. But want to also find out about maybe BF St home and formula bottled out and about or of dp goes out with the baby etc. X

May be being silly. How does the self sterilising bit work.?

OP , you heard it here first - tt are the Chav's bottle of choiceConfused

PrincessPlod · 20/08/2017 21:31

I was TT last time but my second son had trouble with them as teat collapses as they suck plus it's tougher teats than most other bottles which does mean baby gets tired and gives up feeding. HV told me this is very common in newborns. We have used Dr Browns and currently using MAM which I do like.

Mum2oneds · 20/08/2017 21:31

Lmao. I'll take that on board GrinGrin

MrsG I beg to differ. As a chav! Ask a few.... you'll see.

lotsofconfuse · 20/08/2017 21:34

Ask* Grin

MrsG841 · 20/08/2017 21:35

Never heard anything so ridiculous in all my life Hmm

lotsofconfuse · 20/08/2017 21:35

OP I wondered the same re the self-sterilising but apparently you put them in the microwave. So not entirely magic Grin

lotsofconfuse · 20/08/2017 21:36

MrsG you're on Mumsnet so I highly doubt that! Hmm

Batteriesallgone · 20/08/2017 21:37

I have heard if you write to companies and ask for a trial bottle an awful lot of them will send you a freebie.

Then you could try a few different ones and buy more of the one baby gets on with.

If you want to breastfeed give it a go, see if there's actually much judgement from people or was just worrying over nothing. You might really enjoy it and not care anyway Grin

Mum2oneds · 20/08/2017 21:37

Haha no abracadabra moment then lol. Yeah just looked online at how they worked. Will defo have a look at them too.

Yeah I am quite certain I want to try BF. But feel prudish in front of family more than strangers. Which I know is daft but I think my anxiety will get the better of me if I tried din front of people. But like you say. You never know.
Good idea about writing to companies tho :)

Get a grip. A chavvy bottle? I'd rather have chavvy bottles than be a classist twonk.

I preferred the Avent that I had with DS1 (anti colic rings too) to the TT with DS2, he collapses the teats no matter what the flow.

Winebomb · 20/08/2017 21:41

It's not the bottles it's the teats. variflux are the best and fit on most bottles (by tommi tippee) they respond to how fast baby sucks.

I have tiny nipples, and had very slow milk (never leaked, my HV said I made milk on demenand 🤔)

I wasn't sure, so went from combi feeding, to only breast in the morning (snuggles!) and feeding with anti colic bottles and the variflow teats.

I could hear him gasping on air when on the breast, heart breaking really

Winebomb · 20/08/2017 21:42

By combi feeding I was pumping like mad and then ripping up with the little cartons if I didn't have enough x

Batteriesallgone · 20/08/2017 21:45

Most of the ones which claim to 'mimic breastfeeding' (which I suspect is total bollocks, but there you go) will give out freebies I think - MAM, Dr Browns, Mimbie are the names I've heard that are good for this

Alisvolatpropiis · 20/08/2017 21:47

MAM are great. TT aren't great in my experience.

OoohSmooch · 20/08/2017 21:50

Simultaneously bottle feeding and breast feeding is pretty tricky for the first few months

It doesn't have to be, I do combination feeding and had nothing remotely tricky about it.

We use MAM bottles and love the way you sterilise the bottles in the microwave rather than a bulky cold water tub.

I don't like the teet on the TT, the MAM one is flatter and silky which is probably why my baby can go from boob to bottle and back again easily enough (just my opinion).

Bananamama1213 · 20/08/2017 22:00

I was nervous BFing in front of anyone, but after the first couple of months then I didn't care. Nobody in my family breastfed before but not one person made me feel awkward!

Scrowy · 20/08/2017 22:02

The numbers wear off the TT bottles really easily. I wouldn't recommend them to other people because of that but the bottles otherwise have been OK. Like others I had to change to a variflow teat pretty quickly.

Dozyoldtwonk · 20/08/2017 22:03

And although I totally understand your fears (because I've been there), breastfeeding in public isn't that bad - no one really cares or bothers, and if they do - remember it says more about them than you! Easier said than done though I still breastfeed in my car when out and about if I'm feeling particularly meh

ninecoronas · 20/08/2017 22:04

I did both breastfeeding and bottles and used the Avent natural ones, DD took to it really well and never had any problems with them. Can recommend the microwave steriliser too.

Mum2oneds · 20/08/2017 22:15

Yeah going to get a microwave sterilser and electric one. Simply as easier when baby is 6m and I go back to. Work. Every other Fri my dad will be babysitting over night as I start at 6am. Easier to give him a micro one.

Another vote for MAM. We used TT until we had our 8 week check when I begged the dr for suggestions on how to get rid of the colic. We were already on colief which had helped a great deal but not 100%. He suggested we change bottles, went straight to boots, mam ones were on offer. That was 3 weeks ago and we've not had any colic since. Was also nice to pack the steriliser away.

Caterina99 · 21/08/2017 00:58

We used the avent natural (and had the avent microwave sterilizer). Never had any problems with them and DS was mix fed up to about 4.5 months.

Plan to use the same bottles for DC2 due in October
