I'm 34+5 with first baby....... my husband is convinced all first babies are late (SS was, he was)..... but I'm paranoid that my bubba will be early so want to get things done RIGHT NOW. Anyone had any experience? X

Dd1 was born at 38 weeks - on my first day of maty leave.

jobergamot · 19/08/2017 22:20

My DD was born at 38+5. She was 5lb 5oz. I think I had IUGR. So yes, early is possible. Not exactly a scientific study this tho is it lol

NotMyPenguin · 19/08/2017 22:22

39+4 here

Shoebles · 19/08/2017 22:24

Probably wouldn't pass peer review jobergamot, I'm thinking the general message is just get that bag packed now! First babies can and do come early, and you'll need to pack it eventually anyway so why not now?

34+6... on the phone to DH - we were in the middle of moving house and nothing was ready...

"If this baby comes early, we'll be fucked" I screamed rather melodramatically.

He tutted. "You're too distraught to stay in the new place tonight on your own. I'll come get you"

We got back to the old house at 1am. I just dosed off when I felt a pop... My waters broke...

The moving van was booked for twi days tone. Beds were in one house, cot in the other, fridge, cooker, sofa: not where i needed them to be. Towels, clothes, baby clothes all packed in storage.

On the way to the hospital i shuffled round tesco at 6am ignoring contractions. Politely made chit chat with the till girl ("yes, I am ready to pop. Nearly 35 weeks. No, not five weeks to go. I'm actually in labour now" as she scanned everything that I hurled into the trolley - if it said newborn I bought it)

My first was only a couple of days late. My DD1 was one week early with her first baby and DD2 was 9 days early with hers. My DIL was one day late - they're not always late.

BlackbirdSingsInTheDeadOfNight · 20/08/2017 13:23

DS1 turned up 109 days (16 weeks) early. DS2 read the manual I had a lot of treatment to keep him cooking and was only 2 weeks early.

PhoenixDown · 20/08/2017 14:04

My first was born at 39+1 Smile

daisyrosie · 20/08/2017 14:40

I was born at 30wks, and my younger sister at 37wks.

My MIL had all 3 of hers between 37-39 wks.

My sister had her first at 38+6 and her second at 39+5.

I'm currently 33+1 with my first and waiting to see what happens. Not sure if I'll be overdue with that history but it will be interesting to find out! 🙂

Mine came 36 + 5

FiveStarService · 20/08/2017 14:49

Both of mine were 4 days late.

MrsMyreton · 20/08/2017 14:50

Our DD arrived three days early at 39+4 Smile

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 20/08/2017 14:55

39+1, would have been mid week 38 (went into labour at 38+4) if he hadn't wedged his big head into my previously damaged pelvis.

My middle SiL had her first at week 36.

One of my ante-natal class had her first at week 37. She'd just finished work and was looking forward to lounging around watching boxsets.

MrsPringles · 20/08/2017 14:56

My DS was 9 days early. I was hot and waddly and super pleased he came along early Grin

Stuckinstressville · 21/08/2017 15:31

Labour started at 10.15pm 36+6, DS1 arrived 12.20am 37w.

Short early labour.

Living in fear of how early and fast DC2 will be.

Stuckinstressville · 21/08/2017 15:39

On and I just finished work at 5pm that day for mat leave, no cot built, no car seat unpacked and hospital bag had been packed then unpacked due to a wedding at 35 weeks I needed the bag for. ugh.

ninecoronas · 21/08/2017 15:43

37 weeks, DH played a blinder as he'd promised to lay off alcohol from...37 weeks Grin

chelle85 · 21/08/2017 17:58

I wrote a post similar to this a few weeks ago in the hope that baby would come early....now 40+5 with no sign of baby showing up anytime soon

Try not to rely on anecdotal evidence about some first time babies coming early. They come when they want!!
