1st world problem, I know.
I can't stop thinking about Brussels Pâté.
On crusty white bread.
This has been going on for months but this week (I'm 26 weeks) it's all I want and I just don't want to eat anything else.

It's ridiculous, but it is driving me crazy and making me miserable because whatever I eat just seems so disappointing.
I had terrible sickness throughout a lot of this pregnancy so food has been an issue I suppose.
The only other thing I seem to crave is maltesers, but they make me vomit.

Remind me why you can't have it? Or maybe hunt down a recipe and make some?

NamelessNinja · 26/07/2017 11:37

I'm with you on the craving. I'm 37 weeks and have told my husband I want it for my first meal post baby! Unfortunately it's one of the reasonable things to avoid due to the vitamin a content and supposed listeria risk Angry

actino · 26/07/2017 11:46

I would just eat it. Maybe not daily, but on occasion. That's what I do with cured meats

Just eat it! They are guidelines, not a prescriptive rule. The chances of getting ill are so low, and even if you did, the chance of it then affecting your baby are even lower.

LittleWingSoul · 26/07/2017 12:59

P.s. though... as per a PP's suggestion of finding a recipe and making it yourself... That might be enough to just put you off Grin

YoureNotASausage · 26/07/2017 13:02

I had some fois gras because a friend who didn't know I was pregnant put half hers on my plate. I've never been so grateful to have a reason to break a pregnancy food rule.

I think the main issue with pate is vitamin A in sufficient quantities can lead to malformation of the foetus (long time since I checked this stuff). And secondary to that is the risk of listeria with pates in general.

A small amount is no biggy from the vitamin A perspective. So it's the listeria you can risk or not. Highly unlikely too to be honest.

DandySeaLioness · 26/07/2017 13:13

just have your pâté and enjoy it. It's rich in Vit A so not ideal as everyday food but fine as a treat.
I pigged out on ate brie every day for a few weeks, my body was craving it Smile

LittleWingSoul · 26/07/2017 13:17

God now I really want pate!

Oddsocksforeveryone · 26/07/2017 21:46

Thank you everyone :) it's been a crazy afternoon.
I had a hospital appointment and I asked about the damn pate lol. Midwife said straight up no, consultant said as long as I didn't go mad it would be fine lol.
But in the end I didn't get any as it turns out buying and fitting 3 new car seats with the kids there is chaos . Maybe tomorrow though!

Pate on fresh crusty bread is my craving too. Sad spread really thick and with red current jelly.

They've changed the rules on foods for each one of my pregnancys so I eat what I like.
Pate and shark have been the two consistent no's, but I personally haven't been fussed as don't eat either.
See if you can make the pate yourself? What part is the vitamin A content so high, maybe find an altered recipe?

itstoolateforthisbollox · 26/07/2017 22:53

I ate pate, you'd need to eat a huge amount to do anything at all, like your body weight twice a day.
Eggs you can eat runny, steak you can eat rare, all that shit is out of date and dodgy advice.

Oddsocksforeveryone · 27/07/2017 12:19

@anutteridiot I think I've had a medium rare steak, I like mine pink all through and still bloody and I've been eating cake mix. I wonder why I'm not bothered about those things but avoided the pate?
@gaggle here in Yorkshire we don't get much shark hehe but I do remember one pregnancy there being a big thing about the mercury levels in tuna. I eat a fair amount of tinned tuna.

This is 4th dc, 6th pregnancy.
I ate baked brie wrapped in puff pastry in the last one but was worried about it afterwards.
Tesco just delivered my pate and crusty bread so it's happening today!

Biscuits. Biiiiiiscuits. Biscuits biscuits biscuits. Allllllll the biscuits. And I've got sodding GD that's not really playing ball as it is Angry

Lesser extent than the biscuits but a lovely cold glass of a good sauv blanc. DH will be sent out for the pate while I'm on the postnatal ward Grin

Chicken, have you tried any non-alcoholic ones? I found Becks Blue the closest match and quite enjoyed it. Thought the others were generally grim but most people rave about them!

OnNaturesCourse · 27/07/2017 12:37

Yes to the Paté. I about cry every time I walk past it in the store. I caved and had two bites of it on toast a month ago but I was so consumed with guilt and worry I didn't enjoy it. I have requested it for my first post baby meal... Toast, paté and caffinated tea with sugar.

I'm also missing cider. Never a big drinker but DP has recently taken to drinking my favorite brand while on holiday and it's all I can smell, and it smells so fresh and inviting. I've caught myself sniffing the bottle a few times lol.

lookimahooman - I have Becks blue in the fridge and it doesn't quite hit the spot. I think what I really want is a Peroni.

My partner has promised me a nice cold one , with a wedge of brie once our son is born. He has given up yummy stinky cheeses with me and has only probably had a couple of drinks himself since bfp. He's a keeper.
